Giselle is a North American Goshawk used for Falconry. This is part two of a series of multiple videos discussing the process i used with Giselle and why i chose certain techniques and equipment in her training. This video discusses the raising, imprinting and socializing.

Hey love the videos and looking forward to to the next one! Did you chose to handfeed due to any future breeding plans, or was it more of a Steve Layman- like theory? Just haven't seen a lot of people don't that way, but she doesn't seem to have problems with hand aggression.

Hey Mark. It was more along the lines of using the Steve Layman method. Being a former animal trainer, i liked the idea of being able to use tidbits to help shape behaviors and give me some flexibility with training her. It is definitely a more nuanced approach and i probably could have done a much better job of it, but so far it has worked out well for me and her. Regarding aggression, in her first year i never fed her from the fist once the hand feeding period was over.I would call her to a tidbit i tossed on the ground, then she would naturally step up onto the fist fro . the ground. Now i do call her to the fist to a tidbit though. I think the most important thing was hunting with her every single day in her first year. That smoothed out any lack of training ability on my part.

Trevor, Do you know if a northern goshawk could be kept for falconry in the southern Louisiana area? I'm wondering if they could tolerate/thrive with the heat and humidity.

Viral Vids Repository I think it can be done, but I would reach out to Falconers in that area to see if anyone already has experience with a Goshawk there and what, if any issues they ran into. I take an ice cold spray bottle with me when I go hunting with Giselle and I spray her feet down after each flight when it is hot out.

@@jaguartrev1 Thanks for the input. I will talk to my sponsor about it. Everyone around here (which isn't much) is mostly into red tails.
