Give Me An Answer with Stuart & Cliffe Knechtle

Жыл бұрын

Program 3322 ................... - Cancel Culture - Forgiveness - Eternal Life ..............
Recorded at Texas State University - October 2021.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

How did this planet form before there were any stars in the entire universe? Magic. How did the earth populate with vegetation before our sun existed? Magic. How did humans originate from the dust of the ground? Magic. How did Balaam have a 2-way conversation with his donkey? Magic. How did a man survive 3 days inside the belly of a big fish? Magic. Isn’t that written in our hearts? Aren’t there plenty of people who have never read the Bible (like you) who have still come to “know Jesus”? I don’t know, man. Why did god kill sinners but Jesus didn’t?
@timothywalters23
@timothywalters23 7 ай бұрын
@Chopchop55 anytime God has decided to kill, Jesus fully agrees with. The commandment is properly translated from Hebrew 'do not murder' instead of do not kill because there is a clear difference between the two words. Jesus existed as God before he entered into his physical body through the virgin birth. To answer your question directly, God kills when it is just, and he sees (because he is all knowing) that for those people, there is no chance in the future that they will turn away from evil of their own free will. For example with Sodom and Gomorrah, the people in those towns were being given a chance to not be destroyed, which would happen if God found 10 rightous people there. Just before God destroyed those towns, 2 angels came to warn Lot so he could warn his family, but because two of those family members thought he was joking and therefore did not believe what he was saying, that brought the total number of rightous from 10 to 8. Before this took place, the people living in those towns took notice of the angels (who showed up in human form), and decided to try and rape them (the bible says 'let us have relations with them', meaning sexual acts. Sexual acts without consent is obviously rape), and had committed other sins they were not turning away from as well.

With respect, Art, but if you don't know how a reasonable person could present arguments/evidence against your chosen (PRIORI) assumption (which I would describe as 'you want to believe in, what amounts to from my perspective as 'magical thinking'') to shift your position, then perhaps you're not as 'open' as you'd like to think. What WOULD I have to provide to challenge your position/preferred belief? Having one can prevent you from being open to data that challenges it, and if nothing else, I would at least attempt to expose that to -you- and your own awareness.

I studied chemistry and chemical engineering/thermodynamics in college. Essentially, what Cliffe was trying to articulate was that if there is no free will, we are slaves to the process of entropy. Entropy is defined by the second law of thermodynamics that “all matter and chemical reactions tend toward a state of more disorder.” In other words entropy (the scientific term for disorder) is always increasing. An example of this that one can see in everyday life is when i put food coloring in a glass of water. When dropped initially, the coloring and the water are separated. As time progresses, the food coloring becomes equally distributed and random amongst the volume of the cup it was put in (randomness and therefore disorder has increased). Every chemical reaction, including biochemical reactions, behave the same way. In order for an atheist to believe in free will, pastor cliff was saying, he must deny the law of entropy, which he cannot do without contradiction. With God however, and the soul, perhaps God can predict entropy in a way that humans cannot, this creating free will for us and omniscience for Him. This is how God can know about us before we are born. Our bodies are physical vessels for our souls. The soul gives way to higher thought, emotion, love, relationships, and concepts of a higher order like justice , loving your neighbor and whatnot. The young man was arguing from a philosophical standpoint, the problem with that is if the soul is real (which it isn’t in his opinion from what i can understand), then when resurrected its a different body but the same soul. I think that is the simple response to that, in addition to cliffes point that all cells in the human body are different every 7 years.

All true lol my thing with him is, he knows that if HE goes through that process HE will become a different person and that is what he doesn't want because he does not believe in God but what's he's forgetting is to go through the process of renewal he would've already had to become a different person one viable for the renewal meaning a believer clearly he doesn't want to be a believer. Yes, I'm agnostic. The problem is that he conceded on the free will point, so he says he doesn't believe in free will. So the point of contention becomes the nature of consciousness, particularly whether it's metaphysical or physical. The theist speaker's premise relies on the existence of a metaphysical consciousness, and the atheist speaker relies on a physical consciousness, but we don't really have definitive evidence for either stance. If consciousness is completely brain based, then in order for the theistic interpretation to work the soul would have to be apart from consciousness, and it would be reasonable to assume that the memory and consciousness stored in the brain would not transfer. Memory being in part brain based is supported by mind deteriorating conditions like alzheimers. If consciousness is metaphysical then the real you would transfer over but it's still not a guaranteed that your memories and so on would. So the issue would then be what is the soul or consciousness that transfers over, and would that really be the real you in a way that we interpret the heart of the self or our identity. For instance, many would say that without our memories of our loved ones and experiences with them, then it wouldn't really be them reincarnating. The question again is what is the soul that is being transferred. Is it emotion or is that physical too? Is it consciousness, but then when I'm asleep I'm unconscious so it's possible that it's not. What part of me and you will reincarnate? This is one of the reasons that I'm agnostic. I know that much of me seems to be based on the physical, and besides that, I don't really know what the soul is or if it exists. The other primary reason I'm agnostic is because when I have tried to let God into my life I could not truly believe or give myself over, even though I really wanted to, because I kept having doubts. I find that with even a grain of doubt I am too heavy to bridge the gap keeping me far from God when I try for a leap of faith. I'm a thinker, and unless I can completely believe in God without any doubt whatsoever, I feel as though I could never be one that is close to God.

I’ve struggled with this, Try Looking for the good and light in people. CS Lewis says once you start to see dark grey as completely black, then you eventually see light grey as completely black. And then eventually white becomes completely black. And then you get stuck in seeing everyone and thing as bad. Even your closest Christian brothers and church family. But this works inversely also :)

"How do I know that ressurected person will be me and not someone else?" This is one of those weird, highly theoretical, epistemological arguments that seem to develop while the smoke of funny cigarettes still lingers in the air. I could just as easily say, "How do I know that I am going to be the same person tomorrow morning after I have become unconscious for eight hours? Will it be the same consciousness that will awaken from its slumber or a totally new consciousness? Does that even count as me anymore? Why should I even want to wake up if it's not me that will be experiencing tomorrow?" Well, of course, it's you. Sometimes, common sense gets to the bottom of an issue without the need for an epistemological crisis.

It is the easy thing to do to just discard people and tell them that you are not friends anymore because of their sins. It is difficult to stay and try to plead with them to correct their sinful behavior. These people do not understand that leaving your friend because of his sins is the worst thing you can do to them at that time, because they will never hear the call to become better. They will just stay in their sinful behavior and find other people who affirm that behavior. It's literally what is happening on the internet. Every behavior has become normal because all you have to do is find your little echo chamber where everyone agrees while cancelling anyone who comes in with a differing view.

This advice can actually be good advice from a secular perspective as well. I mean, I think sin is fictional disease that the cult sells the cure for, but putting that aside for discussion of your point, I agree - You shut someone out of your life and you end your ability to HAVE A FRIENDSHIP with them, and friends are generally much better influences upon your actions thoughts and attitudes than those negatively regarded. I would do the opposite to what someone had alienated me wanted, perhaps out of spite. I wouldn't talk too much about echo chambers however, you've chosen a very specific branch of a very specific cult yourself (why the HEBREW mythos? The Greeks were way cooler, thats what the Romans said, at least :P) but I'm being facetious - I can't resist taking jabs even whilst I'm replying to agree with you :)

@@trumpbellend6717 You did not quote correctly, but it's fine, I got the idea. The passage refers to people that teach a false version of Jesus. It talks about teachers that Christians should avoid trusting. It does not mean that you cut off anyone who goes against the teachings of Jesus. Furthermore, it's a letter that John wrote stating his own views on the matter. It's not what Jesus did. Jesus didn't turn his back to the people who needed him the most, and he addressed false teachers. I will try to do the same. It does not take a long time to just read the things in context. Also, think twice before posting a comment with a million emojis ridiculing someone while have a vulgar username. @@MINDYOUROWNBUISINESS It's not about what's cooler, but what's true. Although I must admit that the Christian message bodies greek mythos when it comes to being cool, but that's just my opinion. I do not think you believe what you said. Because you admit there is a thing as people doing wrong. That is what sin is. It's literal meaning is to "miss the mark", which everyone does all the time. You obviously believe in good and evil, which in a secular perspective falls apart really quick if you want to be consistent. You keep referring to Christianity as a cult (not wrong but derogatory), which you obviously do out of spite or to get some sort of reaction. You assume I'm also in an echo chamber which is false. The reason people join echo chambers is to block out opposing views and affirm their own views, as they want their own views to be true. You assume I do that. I do not. I want to hear from everyone and I welcome any opposing views to be presented, even if it's from someone who posts a KZfaq comment while being very emotional ;)

@@whodis799 Edit: I come off as uncompromisingly pragmatic, but I genuinely appreciate that you took the time to respond and engage. My tone would fail to show that detail without this edit. Ok, well if you want to talk about whats 'True', then you're going to find me being a bugbear empiricist bringing your poetic skytalk down to earth, because where I'm standing, the 'Truth' is what the facts are, and if you want to go around saying something potentially misleading and dishonest as asserting as if true that which is not demonstrable by evidence, then I'll be forced to stop agreeing with you, and withdraw from this nice neutral ground that we can both stand on and perhaps agree that the bible ISN'T just a collection of lies designed to excuse historical autrocities and prevent the priests from having to go out and get -real- jobs whilst they endorse whatever murderous war their king wishes to engage in, this nice neutral ground where I can generously allow that even with those issues the bible can have educational or instructive value for its illustrative stories and the implied consequential lessons contained within, and have to argue with you about how asserting as if true that which is not evidently so is known as 'being dishonest' or 'lying'. And you want to lecture me about sin, assuming, in your hubris to talk down to me from a place of superior knowledge? I think not. >Thats what sin is. No, no it isn't, its a special category of crime, the thought crime against an invisible omnipresent deity. You know the invisible omnipresent bits are later additions to the character of Jehovah, right? As in literal character power-creep. He was indistinguishable from other mountain deities, walked with people, turned his back on people, that sort of thing. Meanwhile theres other stories like a character who can turn invisible because of a 'magic ring'. When you have a character that COULD be 'anywhere', he is, effectively 'everywhere', for purposes of story telling. Watch out! He could be listening! Jehovah became a sky-god partly to keep up in the storytelling stakes. But no, its not just 'doing wrong', and if you want to project what you THINK I believe instead of -asking- me, you're off to a bad start, but that usually happens when theists try to model my thinking. Its doing wrong according to what the LYING ASS PRIESTS pretending to speak for god say. The ones that want your trust faith and money, that you are, for reasons I cannot POSSIBLY fathom, allowing to pretend to speak for a character that, by any measure needed, would never need human agents, books, apologists or middlemen to pass on a message. The very idea you are proposing as true sounds like an absolute diminishment of what I would imagine as being describable as godly. Why do you believe in such a weak, incompetent, impotent version of divinity? >which you obviously do out of spite What if someone was clearly in the grip of Satans clutches and doing his bidding? I don't actually think thats ever a reality, since the character of Shai'tan was clearly ripped off of and inspired by local rival religion to Judaism, Ahriman the accuser, the (left? Right? I forget) hand of Zoarastrias throne, who tallies all your 'sin' and misdeeds in life for your judgement. But lets put your fanfiction details aside - if someone was in the 'grip of Satan', as, from my perspective you are, I say 'cult' not out of spite, but in an attempt to reach you. I'm here to provide my perspective and ideas, no more and no less, and to correct perceived errors in statements made, as the most autistic and truth-minded commenters on youtube are known to do. Just judging by your post length, you seem to have caught a little of the autism too, though perhaps a Jesus flavored version of the virus :) To put my provocations down to malice is projection on your part, you'll know when I'm genuinely trying to insult you (and I in turn will be insulted if you attempt to project other faults you possess but I do not, such as a fondness for 'faith', onto me). I appreciate that you're honest or insightful enough to acknowledge that the difference between religion and cult is only the winds of fashion and popularity. >You assume I do that. Ill have to scan my words for that particular assertion, I don't remember it, but I imagine a particular statement may have provoked that view. > I do not. I want to hear from everyone and I welcome any opposing view If that is true, then you and I can be on friendly terms, since we sort of share that perspective, although I have a few empiricist rhetorical flourishes that I can keep up my sleeves for later :) Just for thought (along the lines of 'clever rhetoric to chew on') you may not be as open minded as you think IF you can't tell me what a normal, reasonable person with reasonable resources could do, or show you to change your confidence levels in any given position. (This is pure rhetoric, and I'd genuinely try to make you consider it, rather than refute it. If I don't know what it would take to change MY mind, I'm saying in that scenario, I am NOT openminded or reasonable).

That last guy was a modern example of exactly what the Word means about “Those in the flesh cannot please God.” He isn’t aware of his own spirit, mind, and flesh. He knows his chemical brain meat. His spirit is entirely fleshly. Hes speaking from his flesh, by which his soul and spirit are totally enslaved.He’s blinded by his flesh to the reality of his own soul. His soul and spirit are “in the flesh”. That is why he speaks entirely from his natural carnal mind, and is fearful of getting a new body, because he knows internally he is entirely in his natural carnal body and if his body decays or is destroyed, so is he, because he is entirely in his carnal flesh. And the fear of death holds power over him because his soul and spirit is trapped in his flesh. He needs the Spirit of Christ to save his soul from his own flesh of sin and death. Then he will be free of sin and death, even while he still lives in his body. And He will by that same spirit , be transformed by the Spirit and will of God.

Is it THAT big of a stretch that he would forgive somebody that was a racist? That's not the same thing as accepting their racist sins. Christians hate sin, but they are not to hate the sinner. Why? Because we've ALL sinned. Christ wants all of us to repent, and he wants us to forgive. Because if we don't, how can we expect God to forgive us? It's not rocket science. I'm not a closed minded Theist as I have nothing against Atheists or unbelievers as I speak to them often to understand their reasons for unbelief but we as Christians are convinced of God's Existence due to many real factors). I'm not trying to convert anyone or convince anyone to become Christians as that's The Holy Spirit's job to help people believe but only explain why I believe in Jesus Christ. There's actually evidence of God's Existence in Christianity. First of all there's proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed in history since the writings of Tacitus, Josephus Flavius, Pliny the younger and other historical documents prove that He was living two thousand years ago that even scholars both religious and Atheists agree with historically speaking but not that He's The Divine Son of God because obviously they don't. I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict. Just before anyone says Christianity is a white man's religion made to oppress blacks during slavery you obviously aren't aware that the first Christians were Jews in The Middle East and that Christianity just like any religion can be used by evil and corrupt people to oppress others but you forget that the first Abolitionists/Civil Rights activists were Christians who sought to abolish slavery, racism, segregation, injustice and prejudice throughout American history. Jesus The Christ loves you enough not to give you what we all deserve which is God's Wrath by His Own Blood. Charles Darwin didn't originally come up with The Theory of Evolution over 200 years ago as it is mentioned in the writings of Ancient Greeks who believed in Demons that gave knowledge to philosophers. Evolution makes no sense when nothing has evolved after thousands of years of human history and supposedly the first creature came from primordial sludge several millions of years ago funny how they won't believe that God an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being created us from the Earth) which came from a supermassive expansion of matter at high temperature that inexplicably created everything in the known universe that supposedly came from nothing billions of years ago. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" and I'm not convinced of macro Evolutionary biology whereas I accept micro Evolution such as speciation and adaptation because there's no evidence of macro Evolution nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word. Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. I don't mean this is any condescending manner but if you'd like to discuss The Scriptures with me or have me listen to your view on anything my instagram account is Savage Christian Kombatant.

It’s all by design, the communists took over our colleges and schools a long time ago. Slowly dumbing our kids down and indoctrinating them to act on their behalf. What’s even worse and they can’t see it no matter how obvious.

That last guy is overcomplicating resurrection. When you're raised from the dead, you're the same person in a new body, with none of the frailties of your old one and none of the sin from your old life. How anybody can say that's irrational is beyond me.

@Our Savior We're made new in that we become perfect. I don't believe that entails losing your own identity. Three of the disciples even witnessed Jesus talking to Moses and Elijah on the high mountain long after they died. You couldn't know who they were otherwise.

7:15 Is deeper than many know the fact is sinners always believe they're better than others. If you ask anyone are you a good person, they immediately say yes, because they compare Stalin, Hitler, serial killer, etc to themselves, thus makes them appear better. Yet, their SINS make them as ugly to God.

Cliff, the next opportunity you get to ask, ask the next one to deny the existence of a soul if they can express themselves, to utter even the faintest of sound without the desire to be heard, understood, and the hope of a response. When the rich man found himself in hell all he wanted above anything was a drop of water (life) to quench his thirst (desire). But with no connection to life (the life giver, God) his desire was only filled with despair. Love your channel and love what you do sir, you have my respects!!!

Forgiveness is an important value on a fundamental level for civilization that is taught best by Jesus Christ. It's the acknowledgement that people can change and relationships can be improved, without forgiveness we have an endless drive for revenge, vengeance for every wrong in history committed by anyone who shares a group identity or idea that tears things down and elevates conflict. We need forgiveness as a core value but also justice for the individual that is corrective and a deterrent to evil.

@@boltrooktwo You want to talk about "justice" I work hard providing for my wife and 3 kids and spend most of my spare time doing voluntary work with young children ( many of whom are disabled ) the smiles upon their faces the only reward or purpose one could ever need for it to have "meaning" But under your theology my inability to believe in magic and extrodinary claims and diferentiate them from the many other such extrodinary claims of other "Gods" with differing scripture and "values" derived from them, means that I'm deserving of eternal torture regardless of how I live my life. A child killer however so long as he truly repents and accepts Jesus on his deathbed he can spend an eternity in paradise with the children he murdered. Unless if course those children also found the "evidence" for your God unconvincing, in which case your child murder would be looking down from paradise on the children he killed as they too suffered for eternity with me 🤮😡😡😡 Is THIS "morality" ? Is this "JUSTICE" ?? 😡😡🤬 Imagine a girl gets raped, they catch the rapist and he gets found guilty in court. The judge sentences him to life, but then says to him "dont worry I will serve your sentence for you" Has the rapist recieved "JUSTICE" ?? Has the raped girl received "JUSTICE" ?? Of course not yet that is precisely what happens under the Christian vicarious redemption (scapegoating) nonsense ideology 🤬

I could not just make myself believe in pixies no matter how much I closed my eyes and stamped my feet. Tell me could you right now just "choose" to be convinced that God does not exist or that the laws of gravity don't apply to you if you step off that cliff?? 🤔 No of course not, yet your PERFECT moral reference standard thinks the above is how PERFECT MORALITY WORKS ? 🤮🤮😡😡🤬
