The war with Germany fizzles out almost immediately leaving the US Navy some peace to build up the fleet. New battlecruisers with more guns, new battleships with bigger guns, new destroyers with more AND bigger guns - all good. But where on earth is something we can build a decent cruiser on?! Our medium ship force is severely lacking, come on game give me something decent!

You know i love that the dreadnought 4 hull is the New York hull, basically and has skipped 14inch and gone straight to 16. It's glorious Also the long time till a cruiser makes sense in a twisted way for the US considering our newest cruiser was uss olympia for awhile curtesy of certain politics. Also atleast the scout cruiser doesn't force you into building the Omaha that ship is not pleasing to the eye.

@@beejebes1856 Ironically, if none of the Ticos become museums, which seems likely, then Olympia will still be one of the newest cruisers the US has in just a few years. Only the Ticos, Salem and Little Rock are newer!

Suggestion for some generic Battlecruiser names: National Parks Yellowstone, Yosemite, Sequoia, Crater Lake, Rainier, Wind Cave, Mesa Verde, and Glacier all exist by this part of the game. I also like using Founding Fathers, and American Volcanoes for Battlecrusers for the US. So Franklin, Jefferson, Hamilton, etc., and Shasta, St. Helens, Katmai, etc. A lot of times I will do classes with a theme. I might have a National Park class, a Volcano Class, a Battle class, and a Founding Father's class.

34:22 It's not cruel that you're forced to put the tower so far forward. It's only how it must be in that era.

Nice to see your cruiser divisions being remodelled and upgraded after a rather long hiatus. The new destroyer class as well, looking more advanced than their historical counterparts of the era. It would be interesting to see your battlecruisers in action, given the fact that they're not the "fast battleship" build (Japanese battlecruisers have been historically reclassified as such following interwar refits). I look forward to seeing how you will deploy them in battle now that they are true battlecruisers.

While I do agree, I'm VERY intrigued by the forward arcs of that rear-facing three stacker... (2/3 of those are probably surprisingly good!) It's something I try to be mindful of in my own designs to bring as much firepower as possible to bear (mostly for aiming accuracy bonuses) yet, being angled enough to bounce incoming lighter shells.

After some additional testing today on the Scout Cruiser I w/ that rough layout, the 6in. in the aft positions are still quite effective in that barbette configuration. Pretty deadly hull (all in all) for the Era! Also, w/ a wider beam of even 5% you can mount twin 5in. & twin 20in. Torp Mounts!!!

It's not designed to run away. It's a surprise booty boat. Sails towards the enemy whilst they snigger at only having one forward turret, then a turn to port or starboard aaaannnnddd....surprise!

That's the one big disadvantage of playing the United States - you get literal crap for cruisers, until you hit the 1920's. But the destroyers you get are rock solid, and can cover for a multitude of sins.

Letters home (part of the roleplay) October 4 1916 Recepient Address: 22550 Ninth Avenue, Brooklyn, New York Mom, I've got sad news. Today we received the news that our ship was going to be put in mothball. It's a shame, though, I liked that ship, she was a pretty capable vessel, and I personally hoped that she would serve for more time. Anyways, once stepped down of the Tennessee for the last time, I received the commission to Lieutenant commander, and sent to the new USS Virginia, whose previous Chief gunner got killed during an accident, I really hope I won't suffer the same fate as him. I'll write you again when I'll arrive on board to tell you how I'll like my new home Your son Lorenzo Ferrari

It's nice to see all the key technologies are lining up. The 1920s are going to be quite a period for you, I'd say! One small thing you could've done is to remove the cage mast on those BBs, as the funnel comes with a fully-functional secondary tower. I don't know about it's stats, but that might be something to take a look at.

If I can say my opinion, the 3 turrets layout (six or nine guns) really looks bad on the Battlecruiser 1 hull, that's basically built for a 4 turrets layout. The only desin I know that looks kinda good with the 3 turret layout is the Renown class... Edit: You need more smaller ships than bigger ones. Many ports of the provinces you conquer won't be able to hold the big ships, and you need to put a guard post there. And there's also the problem of the escorts. In a Fleet Engagement, the presence of smaller and faster ships is vital to support the bigger ones (mostly by spotting duty) and to catch the enemy by surprise with hit and run tactics with torpedoes

I think the weight problems for BB design are from the torpedo defense system and barbette. It jumps almost 3000 tons by just added in max barbette and TDS.

2 things in regards to the destroyers. I love the gun destroyers so if you would like to upscheme the torpedo armament you could add them to the sides instead of just having the one centerline mount. 2. Hydrophones are awesome but kinda just take weight if there’s no depth charges to go with them

The Canal Opens! New York Evening Journal: Hearst Communications MCMXIV: 17 January 1914 The Panama Canal, between Colón on the Caribbean and Balboa and Panama City on the Pacific, actually runs from the north-west to the south-east. This marvel of modern engineering, and modern medicine with the defeat of Yellow Fever, has just opened to great fanfare. This will immensely improve commerce and naval operations. The new reality isn’t universally welcomed, with the Hǎijūn shàngjiàng Du Jinghong of the People’s Liberation Army Navy openly questioning America’s intentions with this new ability to shift forces from the Atlantic to the Pacific theatres in just a few short months.

It would be a cool idea if you could still save and build ships that are slightly over their weight limit at greater risk of ending up with flaws, not anything crazy over tonnage just something like, idk 100ish tonnes maximum overweight allowance but at that much you end up with a 30% chance of ship flaws.

@@ente6546 and every class of US battleships following the Navadas had full triple iirc. Nevada had 1 triple each fore and aft, with a twin superfiring fore and aft as well, while all follow on classes until the north Carolinas had the same turret layout, but replaced the superfiring twins with triples correct, including the canceled South Dakota class, correct? The North Carolinas(iirc originally planned to be quad 14s), South Dokotas, and Iowas had 2 forward, 1 aft, while the planned but never built Montanas(which conaidered but didn't adopt quad 16s, iirc) returned to the previous 4 turret layout. US crusiers also leaned heavily towards triple turrets.

Spain Declares the Last War New York Evening Journal: Hearst Communications MCMXVIII: 13 April 1918 The Republica de España has again declared war on the United States of America. Washington immediately announced their war aims so that no country in the world would misunderstand. The language used in the communiqué was of course diplomatic, but let us put it in American idiom for our readers: “Three strikes and you are out!” Washington has committed America to a war to take the entire country of Spain. Of the major powers, we have the support of all but the Österreichisch Föderative Republik, who are still peeved that recognition of them came only with the simultaneous recognition of an independent Hungary. The US Navy Departments first action was to reactivate the six remaining Kentucky class battleships, Idaho, Bainbridge, Iowa, Belknap, Arkansas, and Tennessee, and the three remaining Florida class battleships, Florida, Alabama, and New Mexico.
