It's always sad to see a guitar not living up to its potential, but in this video I'll show how to avoid that mistake.
I made a follow up video after playing the guitar for over a week diving into some more details about the guitar after using it as my daily driver.

I just wiped down and cleaned off my guitar the other day… its only 3 years old, but it made a difference… it still played well, but, it brought back the brightness of the sound… i have some of that oil, but i’m kinda afraid to use it, i just get the rag damp in one spot and wipe on and wipe off quickly… i figure some is better than none, and i’m SURE you could over oil it…

I’m glad to hear that! A thorough cleaning really breathes new life into the guitar. I think it may be possible to over oil the wood, but it would probably take applying many coats of oil, but this is something I’m interested in looking into, at what point is it damaging the wood. My hypothesis, based off experience is that you will feel like there is too much oil for playing comfort long before you can reach the point of injuring the wood. I like to apply a liberal amount of oil to a cloth, rub it in, and let it sit for a 10 minutes or longer, and then if there is still oil sitting on top of the fingerboard I will wipe it down, but usually the wood has absorbed most of it. Thanks for bringing that up, I will definitely be looking into it!

Great video man, doesn't really apply to acoustic as much but I'd say for electric simple hardware upgrades can be a cheap way to make your guitar feel like its worth twice as much as you paid. I have a beautiful Squier JazzMaster which I traded in 2 guitars for to bring down the price to around $250, and with an easy changing of the tuning pegs I rarely ever find it to have slipped out of tune which was the only issue I had with it. Might as well be a Fender now for all I care, I love that fucking guitar.

Thanks a lot! It is amazing what a nice set of tuners can do to a guitar. Those little hardware upgrades can make the guitar feel so much nicer. That is definitely an overlooked upgrade that people don't think to do because it doesn't seem like it directly affects the sound. But being in tune is essential to the guitar sounding great. I would love a JazzMaster, sounds like you have a great one there! I appreciate you sharing about it!!

I'm using an MXL 991 small diaphragm condenser mainly with a little of an Audio Technica AT831a condenser near the sound hole mixed in.

2:18 what tuning is that?
@massonlemieux

It’s actually standard tuning but 5 whole steps lower. The tuning would be Ab-Db-Gb-B-Eb-Ab
