Car in vehicle is a 2006 Jeep Commander 5.7L Hemi 4x4.
I've worked at many shops where techs would only do a "front end check" as part of their routine inspection. Meanwhile a rear wheel was ready to fall off because the wheel bearing was so bad! If you're walking around the car then give a back wheel a shake and a roll! You're never going to find anything unless you look.
Some vehicles have hub bearing assemblies on the rear even though it's a solid rear axle. Those bearings can fail like any wheel bearing. This Jeep would be one of those cases.
If it's independent rear suspension then it'll definitely have a wheel bearing that's more prone to failure than a traditional solid rear axle. Whether it be a hub bearing assembly or a press-in style sealed bearing. Also, upper control arms go all the time on vehicles with independent rear suspension. You will have to unload the suspension to check. It can be a pain to do.
Sometimes bushings in arms will go. Usually you'll get a visual indicator. Either the arm will be resting right up against the bracket, like this vehicle, or you'll see a lot of rust dust from where it's been rubbing for quite a while. If you're wanting to do a very thorough check then you can get a prybar into joints and bushings to see how much movement they have.
You don't want to be the last hand to touch a vehicle that's unsafe to drive without informing the customer!
