I started planting morning glories over 20 years ago. I live in zone 5, they come back every year, with no effort. In fact both my neighbors dislike them. The grow inside my yard on my 6ft chain link fence. So oh well, I always just loved them. I have red, blue and violet.

@SandyKH4 жыл бұрын
@@noeditbookreviews They wrap themselves around other plants and strangle them. The word for them in Danish (where I live) is Bind-weed. Be careful when they re-seed because they spread like wildfire.
@Blackgirlswag864 жыл бұрын
@@SandyKH Morning Glory and Bindweed are different plants. Morning Glory is an Annual that reseeds while Bindweed is a Perennial. You can tell the difference by looking at the leaves,flower,and vines. Bindweed leaves are usually smaller and shaped like an arrowhead while Morning glory leaves are larger and heart shaped. Morning Glory vines are thicker and may have small hairs and Bindweed flowers only come in like 2 colors pink and white. And is more native to Europe and Asia but you did say you were Danish right?

@NerakGreen2 жыл бұрын
It’s exciting, isn’t it?! Glories, Zinnias, and African Daisies are such quick sprouters. 6-8 days and boom goes a chute. I started with those and picked up some forget me nots. Just dust their seed on top of a pot of soil in full sun, like under a lamp on ur counter, and push em down when they get spiky, like the monkey balls off the tree. Keep the soil moist and in sun and they’ll start sprouting. They’re so teeny tiny. If u like watching the grow process, FMNs are slightly slower and still quite satisfying to watch over time. Just a suggestion

Incredible image quality and man, your voice is so soothing, you sound like the Bob Ross of flowers. I planted glories from Dollar Tree in a tent on 2.23. They like to stay dry until wilting and then get about a quarter cup water, which is pretty much every morning. As soon as frost passes, I’d like to give them a permanent pot for their life cycle. Do you think they’d like an upside down tomato trellis in a big pot on my covered porch or would they prefer to dangle down a hanging pot with partial shade?

you soak morning glories before you plant the seeds to help them germinate faster- in the late fall-e early spring I sit and harvest all the seeds left in the pods from the winter and replant again in spring! I have so many seeds now and I actually enjoy collecting them!
@NerakGreen2 жыл бұрын
“Stratifying” is the fancy word for pretending it’s winter for your seeds by keeping them in the fridge. U can soak or scuff ur seed coat with a rolled tube of sandpaper before planting to help out the embryo inside. If planted too shallow, their coats don’t come off right away, but they often do on their own. I add a drop of water to lube em up a bit if that happens. Paper towel germination is great for bitty seeds, like lavender or precious secular beans, but it’s not necessary for pea-sized or bigger that come out of a packet. Those seeds are genetically modified to produce. Most of our grocery produce is beyond dead and modified to never expire, but instead oxidize.

I've heard this is something they do best. In the Fall you might find a vine which has contacted the ground and has grown roots. Those can often be separated then potted or moved else where. They're going to have a shortened growing season and may not flower unless brought in. If brought in and wintered over they can jump start your trellis in the spring. Do several, Best luck!

Check if that is an annual or perennial. Annuals die after producing seeds, so they are best grown outdoors so they can get more sun. You can start the seeds indoors in early spring, then plant them out once the weather improves (also check your hardiness zone). Lastly, protect them once they are outdoors, acclimate the seedling, cover recent transplants so they dont wilt in the sun, fence them in if you need to, and give them lots of room to vine out. Good luck!

Timelapse of these would be great! I have tried a few times, but you have to get up super early and if there is any wind at all it dosnt look so good. I have seen a few trying to bloom but trapped in a leaf, and when you free them they bloom in 1 second!

Pre-sprout the seeds indoors and keep them warm. That should give you a head start.

I contend they have consciousness...I mean moreso than most flowers. And the proof...is when you ingest their seeds.

@@GiveitaGrow I just ordered a new willow lattice for (her). I am just concerned cause the leaves r a bit yellow. We have had a lot of cooler weather and overcast skies. And the gentleman that gave me this beautiful plant said the fact that I planted her directly east is why leaves r yellow (ish) . Not all of them but some. Forgive my comment . I actually have learned things from this vid and will give it a like. Now I know blooms only last a day. I know to untangle the vines and guide them towards the deck and the lattice once it gets here. Could u possibly address the yellow (ish) leaves? The giver of this plant stated that she is not getting enough sun and that a tree is blocking a lot of the sun. But the tree is not that big and the sun will soon be coming back slowly towards the south and she will be getting lots more. Also learned that the spiral blooms r actually blooms but that was kind of a no brainer, yet still appreciated. Any fertilizer tips? I filled the gaps when I planted with miracle grow that will work for up to six months or so it says on the bag. uuummmm?? If they r vines that look like they r innertwining in groups should I leave them alone cause they r mating? Thank u Sooo very much in advance for replying to this very long comment!!!

Yellow leaves can be caused by many things, inconsistent watering, too much or too little fertilizer. I would first try a mild liquid fertilizer when you water. Do give them time to dry out a little between waterings so the soil is not always wet. The plant should be ok in low sun, it just wont flower too well. If your vines are intertwining, that means they are growing well. I like to unwind and spread them out for more flowers.

You need to rip the “fruit” off . Better off buying more seeds rather then forcing your plant to produce seeds...less fruit , better flowers

I usually like to just let them go, but I will try that with one of this years plants.

So, I think wondering minds want to know how? Cuz I have been growing them for over 15 yrs and whatever this video was about, all I saw was Japanese beetle eaten leaves on a grandpa ott morning glory and someone trying to twine a vine lower then it was on a 'garden feature' apparently not understanding that they reach for the sky.. as we all do 😇

Sprout them on a damp paper towel, keeping them warm. Make sure they have something to climb. Train the vines where you want them to go.... ect
