Howell is a bit of a sycophant. Like Levy, he figured out that he could make a living by doing chess entertainment (instead of actively competing) and hitched his career to Magnus. You vastly overestimate the ability of a 1500 to play blindfolded (I am talking as a 1860 fide). Even in this "easier version", the time pressure would create many more mistakes than with regular pieces. I see your point but 2000 or similar seems like a more valid treshold

You can actually start seeing the board and pieces move in your head at 1500 rating it gets clearer as you get stronger and masters 2200+ can see it very vividly and move pieces and can calculate several moves deep and with other variation very fast, the higher rated players are just better at doing that and faster but its not end all be all. Knowledge, talent, experience, creativity, practice, preparation, mindset, endurance, form and discipline are also tantamount to being great chess player. Magnus has just the great edge in talent man gifted remembers games 10's of thousand of games.

How do I determine my rating? Do I have to play on-board tournaments?
@user-cc2mg4iu6i
@user-cc2mg4iu6i 18 күн бұрын
@@spectazular7489 Yes. The chess governing body in your country hosts rated tournaments. You will have a rating for all the tournaments you play in your country. But then there is FIDE which is international you will have another rating which determines your strength across the globe. Once you have success in your country naturally chess feds in your country will tell you what FIDE rated tournaments in and out of the country you can join. Online chess ratings are not official.

@@Anton-eh3ny It's a matter of practising. Nobody plays at the same level blindfolded, not even Magnus. But if you are 1700 you should definitely try it. You would be surprised.
