I visited the UK a few years ago from the USA. I had to listen kind of carefully to the Englanders to understand. In Ireland I really had to pay attention to their speech. But in Scotland I practically needed a translator! Had a wonderful time during my visit. Met lots of really gracious and fun folks. Saw a lot of fabulous sites. Hope to go again one day. We know. Greetings from Scotland. If you can't understand it and you're English [expecting to BE understood is seperate], you're ignorant. Nobody is going to see that the same way if you're A Murkin. I've lived in USA, I'll argue that many from UK places will struggle JUST AS MUCH with understanding Murkin English [varieties] as badly as you do with Glaswegian. For the grinz, you should look up [Scottish] 'Galloway Irish'. It would fascinate me to find a virgin murkin ear to react to that.

It angers me so much the way he was treated! He seems like such a lovely person. I’ve been bullied in the workplace, never did anything to deserve or provoke it.. You’re just not a part of the ‘click’ and they do everything they can to break you down and force you out 😓. Really enjoyed Martins story, very interesting ❤ Thanks for giving him the platform to share it Shaun ❤

Glasgow back before they had cameras everywhere was a wild places. Ive forgot more than I remmember no doubt, but even I have plenty of stories from growing up that you just wouldnt belive unless you where there lol. Plenty of characters both good and bad, it really is the land of the lost in someways.

The sad thing is the guy seems really decent and genuinely wanted to make a difference . Very sad that staff are being bullied by other staff. Especially when he done nothing wrong at all. Genuinely feel for the guy , you can tell by his voice it still affects him and I’m not suprised. All I can say is your better off out of it sir

Enjoyed this Shaun, Martin. I am from Ayrshire, and Kilmarnock is my local nick. I spent 11 1/2 mths in Killie in 2008 and had 8mths hell while there all down to head of health care!!! She was a fat bleached fckr who wouldn’t look at me on the ‘ route ‘ but loved all the wolf whistling from other guys. My visits were reduced so I couldn’t see my kids, partner when I should have all down to the power she had… well for 8mths. 1 day I was in healthcare and I seen a flyer for some mental health group, I took note and sent them a letter and thru them I got help and she no longer had power over me. Even the wardens couldn’t believe the change in me and from then I went from Basic to Enhanced in quick time and was entitled to 3 visits a week rather than the 1 and even then I could only have 1 per fortnight as my partner worked every 2nd weekend. Despicable is an understatement!!! You’ll know who I’m talking about Martin. Watched your podcast with Kris @ Tin Pail TV and now this 1 with @ Shaun Attwood. Both were thoroughly entertaining with different stories. A disgrace what the powers that be put you thru mate. I hope you get your mojo back and enjoy whatever direction you choose to be your line of work in the future. ✌️

I was in kilmarnock prison at the beginning and it was fucking mayhem,the screws didn't have a clue ,a 6 week training course and then flung in at the deepend lookjng after every kind of criminal in scotland ,felt sorry for them because they were mostly decent people and also met Emma faulds when she worked there ,lovely person who was sadly murdered by another officer who worked there ,tragic .

My mates in Kilmarnock prison right now its a bear pit slashings every few days anyone can get it and the screws have always been currupt they went to the same schools as some of the prisoners and are very soft as far as screws go.

Even when I was there we had in a hall two young inexperienced female screws for the hall and I agree that the cons actually felt sorry for them and no trouble happened when it was like that and you get screws who are complete scumbags(in other prisons both male and female) and just with their presence causes a bad vibe to reverberate among the halls. I am trying to figure out who his ma is as he was there long after I was there. Porky who he talks about I met first in the seg before I got shipped to Shotts and then in Kilmarnock and you would look at him and think nothing of him unless you knew about him or who he is. He is actually a good guy when you get to know him but danger does lurk underneath. He will never get out sadly and there is potential for him to revert to whatever his inside underlying cause is that makes him potentially so dangerous at times. I have come across far more dangerous prisoners than him, one in particular who killed 3 escaping from the state hospital who was told he was never getting out, he got out, and he was held in solitary like Hanibal. I was in 3 prisons with him and we became quite friendly. He will never be back in prison and would go out of his way to help anyone.

What a top lad, heartbreaking to hear what he had to go through to do a bloody difficult job. As a prison officer you expect to have to watch your back from the prisoners but your colleagues as well? That’s just wrong, in a job like that you have to RELY on your colleagues to make sure you get to go home at the end of a shift, exactly the same as when you’re in the police. I don’t know how he stuck it so long, I hope to god he kept evidence of everything and took them to an employment tribunal!!

When women prisoners go out to give birth they are cuffed and chained 24/7 even whilst in labour giving birth, same with male prisoners going to the hospital for operations. In the prison, you have screws outside ready to come in at a moment's notice and the doctors are rarely if ever 1 to 1 there is usually an extra orderly there. In Kilmarnock, there was a respected doctor there but because a friend of mine died in agony with meningitis and told them that he was susceptible due to a serious head injury the doctor complained and they found a way to get rid of him and no one was ever held to account for it. I listened to his last screams in pain. RIP Drew(I can't even find his surname in a search as a lot have died in that prison) and that is one of the cushier jails in Scotland, not that jails are really cushy.

@@lindacoyle4533I went into surgery four times and I was cuffed until the anesthetic took well effect so I am very aware of how they operate, not the surgeons but prisoner transport as in Serco, G4S... I have never been present when female prisoners in labour go but know all about it.

I was in Shotts a couple of years and got carted to the digger there trussed up, and, after a while, I was carted trussed up to a van with the choice I go voluntarily or with the screws sitting on me in locks take me to Kilmarnock and ended up there for 3 years or so. Just before I arrived the cons took the halls and a screws radio and were shouting stuff down the radio with the screws not realizing a con had the radio and had them running all over the place. I think they gave up the following day but they put in measures so it could never happen again like putting grills up etc. Had some laughs in Kilmarnock it was a Serco prison then. You should have smelt it back in the old Victorian jails when it was slopping out. That smell you never forget, new jails are nothing in comparison Kilmarnock was the cleanest jail I was ever in and I've been in a few.

Not Proven means the Procurator fiscal haven't the evidence or the proof to prove there case, people have been found Not proven and they are innocent.
