17 жыл бұрынGlass Harp, along with special guests Jason Truby (P.O.D.) and Kenny Greenberg performing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on Sept. 23rd, 2006 at the Ogden Theater in Denver, CO. I ran out of memory so there's about 30 seconds missing in the middle while I swapped memory cards.
Please excuse the jumpy video--I was trying to juggle the camera, a pen, paper, 2nd camera, laptop and extra memory sticks while trying not to fall off my barstool.

I met Phill in 1974 at Jesus Barn in Pensilvania and at Christ's Castle. We had some time together talking about Jesus People movement. He was a new born Christian like me. He is the best in all spects. Bless u brother. Dirceu, from Brazil.

Had the chance to see Phil in concert with the Rez Band in 1981. First heard his music in 1978/9... He never ceases to amaze with both his incredible skills as a songwriter and musician as well as his humility. He has always been and continues to be an immense inspiration to me and so many others. Thanks so much for posting this great video.

I would NOT want to solo next to Phil Keaggy. Despite the fact that he's one of the nicest, most humble people I've ever seen, he's one of the greatest guitarists out there. Talk about pressure!!

I love the fact that Keaggy enjoys sharing the spotlight with other talented musicians. It's not all about him. He likes to invite people like Mike Pachelli and Randy Stonehill to jam with him or do a concert together. Together we can all make better music.

Phil played at Sir Paul's daughter's wedding . I'm sure Paul sees Phil as a blessing and knows Phil is a fitting tribute. Hope he shared Jesus with Paul. I'm sure he did.

I saw a show last week where Clapton did say that Phil Keaggy was one of the best.I can't remember the exact words or quotes but he did say it in so many words.Not sure about Hendrix.I saw Keaggy in 1982 and he was awesome.A truly humble servant of the Lord.

Phil Keaggy and Rez Band!?! Now that's just way too much fun! You're lucky you still have ear drums! I loved Rez Band. Saw them in Shreveport once and in Bossier once. The shreveport gig got shut down by Shreveport PD for being too loud. It was at a Skating Rink somewhere.

I was still a young teenager when Stevie Ray Vaugn died. I wish he were still around today so I could watch him play and enjoy his gifts more and more. I can not understand why anyone would want one of the most gifted arists ever to hang it up and walk away. Entropy56 just doesn't appreciate talent. I will enjoy the greats as long as I can.

AMEN!!! We LOVE Phil! I am originally from Vienna...lived in Ytown from 1974-1986...Austintown, Boardman, Southside (ha). I remember Phil at The Barn in Austintown (Glass Harp days)..Champion Roller Arena, and do you remember the Freakout? Lots of great folks back there!

Ian is the one with the acoustic guitar directly to Phil's right. The camera is on Ian (and his name appears in the credits) when Phil starts singing.

There are many here onyou tube that either play or at least attempt to play this song. Of course, it's a classic 40 something year old song and even Eric plays it differently all the time. However, if you guys enjoy quality Beatle REPRODUCTIONS, there is only ONE BAND here to listen to and they are not what I consider a tribute band, they are like the keepers of the flame...true to every note and they are, The FAB FAUX.. Sounds like someone's been drinking that blazing Cuyahoga River water. As a young guitarist myself I saw Phil about 30+ years ago, too, and I'm still a fan and so is my 24 year old better-guitarist-than-I-could-ever-hope-to-be son. Go watch Keaggy's song "Reunion" on youtube and tell me that man belongs in a rocking chair. HA! I hope he lives to be Les Paul old and still plays then. I'm just upset we missed Glass Harp playing in Cleveland last month.

Actually it was on the Johnny Carson Show when Eddie Van Halen was a guest. He had just been voted as the number one guitarist in a Playboy Poll and Johnny asked Eddie what it felt like to be the best guitarist in the world. Eddie's response - "I don't know you'd better ask Phil Keaggy!!" I saw it.

The only break I heard was at 6:42, so it seemed to be a good place to change memory cards, on the wind-down rather than in the middle of some earlier juicy riffs. Thank you for posting this rare moment among stellar guitarists. I only hope that George found the peace that Phil and I know.

The comment about Hendrix I only read in an article that was talking about Phil Keaggy, but The Clapton interview I actually saw. The interview took place somewhere between '03 and '04, but I don't know what network.

There is a Fender Twin and a Vox AC30 next to the Marshall. I can't tell what his Les is plugged into. Phil seems to favor the Fender amps (in other shows I've seen him play)

@medicinalsnowball He is actually not in his full voice, he is in a register that we call mix voice. It is a blend of the head and chest register. Look up Brett Manning, he is arguably the best vocal coach on earth, he explains it well.

Jimmi Hendrix listed Phil Keaggy as one of his main influences. Also theres an interview with Clapton where a reporter asked him what it was like to be "the greatest guitar player of all time" where he replied " I don't know you'll have to ask Phil Keaggy that question".

That is an urban legend which persists. When asked about it, Keaggy said there's no way Hendrix heard or saw his music being performed. Also, Keaggy's first album didn't come out until the same year Hendrix died.

I assume he has played thru just about any amp on the market, but I've seen him a few times eletric/live and like you said it was always a various Fender (usually black faced twin) and a Vox AC30 on the stage. Not sure what was backup and what was being played thru.

+Ymous Anon That's not a mimic -- it's pure Phil. Obviously a Beatles fan from his teen years with Glass Harp in the Sixties, Phil has always had the voice reminiscent in tone to Paul McCartney. Wife and I I saw/heard Phil play this solo on Nov. 30, 2001, when he played live at North Idaho Community College, Coeur d'Alene ... that's the night after Harrison died. Very touching, and nobody plays it better, not even Clapton, who is said to have performed some riffs for the White Album sessions.

I forget the name of the talkshow host (in the late 1960s - Michael Davis?). Anyway, he asked Hendrix, "What's it like to be the best guitarist in the world?" And Hendrix said, "I don't know; you would have to ask Phil Keaggy." Supposedly, Eddie Van Halen gave him very high praise sometime on record in the late 1970s too...

I heard a video in which Keaggy said Hendrix could not have heard him nor his music. Hendrix died the same year Keaggy's first album came out.

First of all I really don't care how you judge my tone. second of all you are right New hudson exit was a short stint. untill '68 when Glass harp was formed and started recording in Jimmi Hendrix' electric lady studio's.

your wrong. He had already released albums with the squires and New Hudson exit. he was already creating a buzz in music circles at that time. But since phil keaggy is a personal friend of yours you would know this.

Phil played through a Fender Pro Reverb that belongs to Dave Beegle. Dave brought all the amps except for Daniel's.

The "goof" is Kenny Greenberg, who happens to be one of the finest guitar players/producers/songwriters in the Nashville scene. Anyone who Thinks he got "owned" clearly hasn't a frickin' clue. Phil is a virtuoso while Kenny is more of a "feel" player......probably more conducive to the blues, really.

I saw that rendition but I thought Frampton's use of the major scale made the "weeping" song sound happy. Frampton's playing is fabulous but I thought it didn't match the theme of the song. It sounded too much like the solo feel of "show me the way". Too, too happy sounding.

It's actually not documented. I heard Keaggy myself say it was unlikely Hendrix had even heard of him let alone his music back in those days. Hendrix died the same year Keaggy's first album came out.

But Phil's songs are much greather than whole of the Beatles... They made sex revolution, but Phil didn't make a sex drogs 'n rock 'n roll revolution. His songs have great message for people, but Beatles do not have! And Phil's guitar can really gently weeps, but from Beatles I can not say so! When you listen to Phil you can feel the love of God :) BYE, God bless you!

I gotta shoot straight with you. Despite the fact that I think Keaggy is indeed the greatest, I think that rumor about Clapton/Hendrix/etc. saying that stuff about Keaggy is suspect. I've heard that exact quote said about like 4 different guitarists. I used to espouse it myself, but I've stopped. Frankly, I think it's b.s.

very true. I was in a hotel room in 1981 in Hamilton, Ontario in which Keaggy was being interviewed by Larry McGill for a university radio show. Keaggy denied it could have happened. Keaggy was recording his first album not playing live the year before Hendrix's death and Keaggy's album didn't come out until 1970, the same year Hendrix died. Keaggy said he wouldn't have been available for Hendrix to have known his music.

It seems to me you are always expecting the best seat in the house. How sad. Maybe you Ought to call Glenn, Phil, Steven and Chris and take lessons on being humble and honest. Again my "mixed up facts" come from Wikepedia.
