Of course it isn't a cover in the sense that we usually think of as 'cover versions'! But without Ian to sing it lacks the soul - the spiritual heart - of the song... No one on earth could capture that... it was his story

Ian Curtis wrote lyrics AND music in both Joy Division albums. I still have both albums in my room, it says clear as day on the inside cover.

I agree with Hannah, in no way is this a cover. These are the people who recorded these songs in the 1st place, I'd much rather hear them than some other band doing JD covers.

They all wrote the song, Bernard was NOT the sole composer and I believe Ian Curtis actually came up with the riff for Love will Tear us Apart.

@PoorOldBen85 personally I do. The same people who wrote the music in JD wrote it in NO. Changing a cosmetic feature like the name doesn't make it a new band.

If Ian had lived and, one of the others died and then went on to form new order, would it be considered a cover then?

also the style of how it is played is different to the original joy division one new order play it in their style and dont try to make it exactly the same as when they did it as joy division

it's not really a cover...since they were just as much a part of JD as Ian was, so it's their songs too. They are the only band who can do it justice.
