Especially when in the next season/an episode or 2 later he tells kurt that his opinion, which is that Kurt and Blaine are too young to get engaged/married yet doesn't matter and that it only matters what Kurt decides. Burt will always support/be there for Kurt even if he doesn't always 100% agree with him/his decisions.

I know right? He's also the ONLY adult in this show to be portrayed realistically, which in turn makes him the most likable among the adult characters.

I love Bart and Blaine. They have the best father and son in law relationship ever. And it’s even more precious thinking about the fact that Blaine has almost no bond with his homophobic real father. Burt somehow compensate for that and that’s so sweet.

Yes Blaine and Kurt are right for each other and are meant to be together, but Burt is right about marriage. It is a huge deal and part of life.

Mike O’Malley did a great job with this part. He was asked to show a huge range over the years, and definitely rose to that challenge. He gave this character so much humanity I felt as if he and Kurt were genuinely father and son.

Burt is not just my favourite glee character but my favourite fictional character overall. The way he manages to be deeply wise and hilariously blunt simultaneously is perfect.

You can't blame Burt for that (as you say). In addition, no father likes that his son or daughter, the boyfriend betray him so painful, while the couple has always set the rules of fidelity.

Oh, please. Burt ADORES Blaine. Think about all he did. He took Blaine to New York for Christmas. He drove Kurt to the proposal. He actually celebrated their wedding! And in this video itself he encourages Blaine and he says Blaine and Kurt do love each other. He just thinks they are too young to get married, that’s all.

I agree with Burt. Too many kids marry just out of high school because religious families do this or they are in love with the idea of love. And too many separate soon after. I haven't seen a young marriage make it past 5 years. Makes me glad my husband and I wanted until our late-twenties to get married. No way are two kids ready to get married, ever.

My parents got married at 16 in 1972- they just celebrated their 48th anniversary, I'm nearly 30 and finally marrying my highschool sweetheart- we waited because we thought the same thing. Sometimes, when you know, you know 💖

There were just so many red flags about Kurt and Blaine's relationship that got ignored, Blaine literally wanted to marry Kurt the second that gay marriage was legalized. But he was more interested in the idea of marriage than he was in Kurt.

I feel like he always loved Kurt so much. I think that as soon as it was legalized, he realized that he didn’t really want to wait. Because now that he could do it, he wanted to. I think they always loved each other unconditionally.

@@kensiem8252 I'm not saying they didn't love each other. I just think that "FINALLY being able to" shouldn't play a role in deciding wether or not to get married. And to make maters worse he's using it as a justification for wanting to rush into getting married. I mean, Burt is telling him that they're too young and they don't really understand what marriage is and Blaine's answer is "but you don't understand what it feels to FINALLY be able to get married". Seriously? How does that argue against anything Burt said? It makes it sound like you're getting married out of desperation, which only makes Burt's case stronger. Not to mention that saying that they're FINALLY able to get married when they are 18 and 19 is absurd. It's not like they had to wait too long for that. I just think it's lame that a moment that should be about the relationship, ended up being about a political comment.

I have mixed feelings; I agree that they are too young to be engaged/married. Also, I'm not sure that Blaine is deciding to get engaged/married just because gay marriage had become legalized; I think he wanted to get married prior to this episode, but didn't propose or mention that he wanted to get married until this episode/the beginning of season 5 because he wasn't able to legally get married before this episode/the beginning of season 5. I think he wanted to propose/get engaged and married once it was legalized, not prior to it being legalized, even though he probably wanted to do it before it was legalized.

the reason why blaine proposing to kurt didn't do anything good for their relationship was bc a) blaine was being impulsive, he suddenly wanted to get married bc gay marriage became legal. b) he wanted to propose to "win kurt back". marriage/ proposing shouldn't be done to impress or get someone back, it should be done at the right time and blaine did it at the weirdest time in their relationship, when they weren't even dating, were starting to be on good terms again after not speaking for so long and after blaine rlly hurt kurt and cheated on him.

It's super lame that he's jumping the gun on his marriage just because gay marriage is FINALLY legal. Marriage should be about your relationship, not some political comment.

Burt never stops being a wise person. And I give him all my support in that he is right. It is too early to do something like the marriage proposal, (not to mention that he has just recovered Kurt) that is why adults always do these things, young people can love everything they want, but being married to someone is not for nothing like being a boyfriend. It does not matter if it is in heterosexual or homosexual couples, it is the same. Blanie's intentions are known, and personally I think that this to ask for marriage is more so as not to lose Kurt again, but anyway, the move is not like that. Also getting married very early, like at 18 (despite being legal in the U.S. or Europe) anyway, it's a very young age for something so big. Blaine hasn't finished high school yet and Kurt is just in college ... you can't have a wedding the next day (metaphorically). I conjecture that people who get married very early (both teenagers and adults end up separating in a matter of a short time and sometimes in the most painful way). In conclusion, you have to know how to wait to raise a topic as delicate as marriage, and enjoy life more without rushing, especially if you just get back to boyfriend with the same person who cut you off a few months ago.

This scene is why i don't like that Blaine and Kurt get engaged at the very begining of season 5 This scene is were Blaine should had realized that marriage it's a big deal and that even if their relashinship was different that the one Finn and Rachel had, you can't jump into a marriage just because you love each other and because you suddenly felt like an adult... and in this case, because gay marriage was going to be legal And then suddenly a couple of days later (in the show timeline) we got the proposal, like seriously??

Cory’s death, as much as I hate to say it, changed many storylines. Remember the Unique catfishing? That was definitely dropped. So the proposal changed as did Burt’s opinion. My own speculation of course.

What bothers me is that he didn’t even talk to Kurt about this. In real life, every couple that gets married talks about it, even before the proposal, and ask each other questions like “where do you see us in a few years?” Burt’s 100% right. Also, if someone cheated on my kid like Blaine did, he wouldn’t be allowed to be in my premises. You hurt my kid, I’ll throw you out the door.

An engagement should be anticipated, the proposal could be a surprise, and when Kurt was being driven to his proposal he was expecting it. I understand what you're saying though but I would disagree (not that I think the engagement was a good idea)

I think many of us gay people still do not understand that just because you CAN do a THING... Does NOT mean you SHOULD do a THING! An understandably its because many Gay's grew up believing they never ever would have the chance to do it. But marriage is still more about Commitment then only LOVE.

To be honest, Kurt and Blaine weren’t a healthy couple. There was the cheating, going behind each other’s backs, and it seemed to me that Kurt outgrew Blaine and vice versa. Blaine was in love with the idea of marriage. I’m not saying he didn’t love Kurt but it seemed that he just wanted to marry for the sake of it, not because of love.
