From April 2002, Glen Campbell visits Larry King and talks about the Goodtime Hour being re-aired, his early career, working with the Champs and the Beach Boys, his thoughts about Tanya Tucker, and Mac Davis, his battles with drugs & alcohol, how God brought him out of that, his Messianic faith, working on "True Grit" with John Wayne, where he was on 9-11, his personal & professional friendship with Andy Williams, his friendship with Elvis and his reaction upon hearing of Elvis' death, meeting Elvis in Albuquerque in the 1950's; Glen sings several of his hits with just his guitar, and even gets Larry to sing "Buttons and Bows"!

Genius musician and once in a lifetime talent. With just a guitar he sounds like a 5 piece band and blows away all of today's so called musical artists. Anyone who doesn't realize that to just have a guitar and no backing players and sound this good, is skill and talent that cannot be teached.

I get teared up anytime I hear Witchita Lineman. Sure doesn't hurt to have the great Jimmy Webb writing a lot of your songs but it didn't matter. I know musicians hate the word crossover, but before that became fashionable that is what I thought his music was. I loved you Glen Campbell,=. Neverr say never, but there will never be another like him

A quote after Glen’s passing from Jimmy Webb, who wrote many of Campbell's hits and worked with him throughout his life. He said “Campbell could play with any guitar player in the world, from George Benson to Eric Clapton," adding that Paul McCartney considered him among the best guitar players. "People will realize what an extraordinary genius Glen really was," Webb told ABC News.

Hard to name my favorite song by this guy. Galveston always comes to mind, but there were/are so many great songs. Many years ago, CMT had a "country's greatest 100" and the top 10 was a mini concert. As I recall, in that top 10, Campbell had two songs, and unlike most of the celebrated artists, Campbell was able to perform them both, himself. It was great

@@politicalpartyagnostic268 I think it’s two things. His true, humble beginnings and deep southern principles lend a great deal to how he credits many others to his success. Also, Glenn Campbell grew was an inherent storyteller, and learned along the way in his entertainment career that his fans loved hearing all the details of the giants he played along side of, and the twists, turns and trail of broken hearts he left in his own personal life. Like he said.. he wasn’t perfect, but he is a global icon and one of Gods special creations.

I love Glen Campbells music since first heard by me and I love the man for his openness and honesty. Recently...well, near 20 years ago...Waylon Jennings died and he was another absolutely amazing singer and incredible entertainer as was Glen. Oh, what an awful thing old age and death is...that such beautiful, shining lights on this earth as these men, who make us so happy still today, have to leave us. This is the best Larry King Show I ever saw. Seldom does he have anyone sing...and we can see how much he was loved by Larry too.

Great interview! Yeah it was sad he lapsed again later and caused that accident, but instead of letting go of it all, like many others would have done, he again cleaned his act and apparently stayed sober after that. For an alcoholic, one glass of beer may already be too much to handle, and enough to cause a relapse. That is something most people don't seem to realize when they are dealing with recovering alcoholics. Respect to Glen and to his family!

Wichita Lineman, written by Jimmy Webb, interesting side story. In the mid '60s Steve Allen had a talk show and Jim Webb on the show mainly because of his song Up, Up, and Away was such a major smash hit at the time. In the interview with Webb, Steve Allen asked him if he had any new songs he had written. Jim talked about a new song he had half written and talked about he had a special artist in mind to record it. He even sang some bits of it and told a little story behind it. Off course he didn't tell who he had in mind for it. Funny he even said in his bones he knew it would be his most famous of his written music. Quite interesting to be watching TV a year later and hearing the song, and witnessing all that was talked about come to pass.

Speaks volumes that he can perform a song with just a guitar. If Glen had not had his dissent into addiction, he would have been more quickly perceived as a one of a kind musician. Just an incredible talent.
