I think Glengoyne is really quite a competent whisky, as long as you’re looking for a soft, sweet, spicy dram. At 45 or 50 dollars, it’s good value. Unfortunately, I have a rule that I can only have 20 bottles in my cabinet at one time, and the Glengoyne 12 just isn’t going to make that cut very often… especially because I generally prefer peat.

I didn't have the 20 bottle rule (I think 120 to 130 was my typical count before I left SF), but I still had to make choices… and peated expressions often won me over as well. Cheers!

Appreciate the review, I am planning a golf trip to Scotland next year. Did some research and was excited to hear that Glengoyne is just outside of Glasgow. Looking forward to the tour. Have any other suggestions for a tour/tasting in the Glasgow area?

I didn't get a chance to see out distilleries on this trip, but we've taken the trains to distillery regions in the past. I don't know if your golf trip will give you enough time, but I hope you enjoy yourself. Cheers!

Thanks for the shout out from Prague, Petr! I’ve never enjoyed Ouzo in the past, but we did have some after dinner at an Athens restaurant and it was surprisingly good. I guess i tasted the wrong brands in the US. 😄 Cheers!

The bigger bottles are great, but I’m still on the fence about this dram. I trust your judgement, especially since I can’t do direct comparisons anymore. My lack of a collection makes tastings so much more difficult for me. Cheers!

Tried Glengoyne for the first time at the Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh. Since then my taste has migrated to the Islays but I liked it enough to keep a bottle of the 10 on hand for a change of pace

The Islay brands captured my heart years ago. I love the variety of whisky, but I think I’ll always come back to the smoky Scotch island. Cheers!

As per one source, 'Glengoyne' means the 'valley of the goose'.

i have the 10 and the 12 i think they are very poor comparing to a glendronach 12 a glenallachie 12 simple whisky not worth to buy...in my opinion

I have to agree that the Glendronach and Glenallachie are both superior drams. Unfortunately, I don’t have those bottles anymore to compare side by side. Cheers!
