What is your "GO TO" whisky if you panic at a bar and don't know what to order?

During a 2 week vacation in Scotland last summer, I picked up a bottle of Glenmorangie10 on our 2nd night. Was a great daily dram in the evenings as we toured the country!!

Glenmorangie 10 saved my scotch drinking life! Let me explain: I had just got into whisky and thought I would try some scotch (strictly American whisky drinking at the time). While at a local grocery store I noticed a scotch on the bottom shelf ON CLEARANCE FOR $7.97! Needless to say it was a real gem!🤣 It was awful, really awful! I thought "scotch is terrible, I don't want this!". Some time went by along with research and I took a chance with a bottle of the Glenmorangie. I'm so glad I did! This will always be one in my collection and one that I start folks off with if they are new to scotch. Great review!

I just wanna say man, you are my GO TO liquor channel on youtube, and I would say it's in large thanks to your personality (but of course I need to mention your knowledge, enthusiasm, passion, and subject matter). I mean seriously, the way you nosed it at 4:00 followed by the sigh, and the delayed "it's a good night" just shows how genuinely you are enjoying the moment, and you're the kinda guy I would love to sit down and have a few drinks with. The diversity of my whiskey journey is thanks to you and to your videos. It helps me tremendously to be able to see these videos, to judge what I should try. I have been a Bourbon man for a while, but now I am branching out to Irish and Scotch. I first bought small 375 ml Bottles of Glenfiddich 12, and Glenlivet 12. Then I saw this video for Glenmorangie 10, so I bought a 750 ml bottle. My personal choice after trying all 3, is Glenmorangie 10. I like the Glenmorangie 10 better than the other two, and will always keep a bottle of Glenmorangie 10 stocked. My next purchase will be the Glenmorangie La Santa, followed by Aberlour 12. If you would, I would love to see a peated Scotch for beginners video. Thank you Whiskey Dictionary! Slainte!

Myself (UK) and my pal (Florida) absolutely love the Glenmorangie 10yr... however we have discovered that we are drinking different drinks since the UK bottle is supplied at 40%, while the US bottle is shipped at 43%. It surely changes the drink entirely. We just can't ever have the bottles side by side to compare. Pity.

This is the beverage that got me started with Scotch. I still come back to it on occasion, and what I recommend to new Scotch drinkers. Love the citrus notes, vanilla, and general sweetness. Being a bourbon drinker who crazes that smoke and oak flavors, I was amazed at how light Glenmorangie was, and all those subtle flavors became a flavor adventure I have now been exploring for a few years.

for bourbon/American whiskey most bars now seem to always have at least Woodford Reserve or Knob Creek. if not those two, then Maker's Mark, Bulleit or Wild Turkey. back in 90s and before it was basically would you like Jack Daniels or Jim Beam. and I mean just a regular bar, not a dive or a fancy place. for scotch if the place doesn't have at least JW Black I'd stick with beer. if they have a single malt it will most likely be Glenfiddich or Glenlivet at least from my experience.

I love Glenmorangie, especially their yearly private releases. The Astar from 2017 I can still find easily on shelves and it is my favorite single malt.

Hmmmm.... drinking Glenmorangie 10 as "Penance" must be rough...

My bottle says it's 43%. It's one of the reasons I keep it stocked in my bar and it's really good for a great price.

Your 100th review , wow , looking forward to hearing about Japanese whiskey , I truly don`t know that much about it , but I will !! Like so many others this was the gateway for me into Scotch. I agree with the flavors you are getting but also I get malt especially when you swish it around well. Would love to get a Nikka from the barrel but since the Whiskey advocate made it there pick of the year good luck finding it. When I watch the video I will have a Nikka Coffey Malt instead. Cheers

Excellent review of the Glenmorangie 10 Original, it was my gateway to Scotch, but to be truthful I though it was like really fine turpentine at the time. Years later, surprised that the aromas and taste were not all about the alcohol, and the honey, vanilla, and citrus notes were in my wheel house. Also the Nikka in the Barrel for your 100th episodes sounds exciting, but fear the hype may drive the price up. Cheers to great drams and reviews!

The Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is a good one to review in the future, especially after the bottle has been open for a few weeks. It's a little tight at first but it's easily my favorite of the core range that they offer. The Allta, Nectar D'or and Lasanta weren't as impressive in my opinion. Cheers

I literally just bought this bottle of whisky this afternoon, its the very first ever whisky i ever bought an tried. I been watching review videos of Glenmorangie 10 Original since this past Summer, I really loved the sounds of all the flavors an scents they were smelling an tasting, it all sounded amazing, So i finally went out an bought a bottle, came home an poured a little bit, all i smelled was ethanol and tasted alcohol burn over my mouth. I really, really hope that i can get used to it and eventually like it, I'm not giving up on it

Just picked up a 1 liter bottle ( 33 ounces ) of this for $48 up here in good old Alberta, looking forward to giving it a try. I'm also going to get a Quinta Ruban as well, have heard nothing but good things about that too. Great video, thanks!

My favourite whiskey👌

I tried this today. I'm used to bourbon, so coming from those, this felt like peach juice with lemon. Almost like a summer drink. I feel like I could chug this stuff (I won't for obvious reasons!). It wasn't $35 for me though, but $45 (Texas, guessing that has something to do with it). I'm definitely coming back to this one, especially on the summer months.

2 new things this week that have occurred to me, you're the second. I kind of have came to my favorite distillers and Glenmorangie is 1 the other is Highland Park- But I have not tried the signature bottles of each. Glen 10 obviously and HP12. I will grab them both this weekend- On the Signet, hey, you did good but I did learn a whole lot more about it, at least as much as anyone will ever know about it's creation, which really isn't much LOL! I'm also going to grab another bottle of Classic Laddie from Bruich--- cause it was oh so good :D OH, just saw the Nikka thing- I've emptied 2 bottles of Nkka Pure Malt- so I'm down with it if I can find it. The Pure Malt was obviously in my wheelhouse~ really different.

Where I live it's a 40% ABV, had my first bottle 2 days ago. Still regret having a couple more other bottles that night. Tasted like a light classic bourbon. So personally I'll just have my favorite bourbons like WT101, Maker's Mark or Four Roses instead in my bar, since they are slightly cheaper, but higher ABV and have more flavor.

On sale in PA, 9/19, for $40. First time sipping on this dram. Very fruity, I thought more apple than peach, but every thing else you said is spot on. @43%, the finish is a little spicy and alcohol burn, but not that bad. Thx for the review. 😎

I always get flavors of Juicy Fruit Gum and Irn Bru Scottish soda.

They make most Beautiful bottles. Original is one of my favorite. Nice video.

Great review! I’m glad I picked this up on recommendation. I’d really like to hear your thoughts on the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban Port Finish one day. I’m still at the point where I’m trying to figure out if there’s a particular finish I enjoy over others, and I think a comparison on the Glenmorangie original and it’s “children” would indeed be interesting, although I can understand why that might not be practical.

At the price, with this taste... what’s the problem? My go-to.

Got the discovery set a few days ago. I have tried the 10 year and I smell taste some of the thins you reference, but not all. Is there a video on tasting techniques? I'm a new scotch drinker, if that isn't obvious. I'd like your take on some Brandies.

It is weird. Everyone keep saying it's nice and soft and fruity and so on, I have finished 2 bottles and I find it sharp and burny. That's weird cause I'm not new to whiskey...

i enjoy the videos and the knowledge that i get from your hard work. I used to work at bevmo a fancy liquor store where i share my knowledge on spirits and what i have learned from you. I wish you could do rum for that is my personal favorite spirit then bourbon then etc. I would like to donate a bottle for you to try and taste and see what you think.
