To be able to grow, as individuals and as a society, we must inquire freely. To be less certain and more curious we must hold our identities lightly. It's heartening to hear an informed discussion on the subject. Discussions like this may help some to set aside a noxious ascientific distinction.

I wish Glenn was my dad. He’s only 5 years older, but he’s at least a generation wiser.

I think the proponents of affirmative action in this context can fall within three groups: 1) The elite class who are removed from the microcosm of everyday people, related social situations and are simply posturing for the sake of virtue signaling. 2) Those who are well-intended yet misinformed by the ideology with genuine passion and righteous sensibilities. 3) Those who see things for what they are but fear speaking out due to presumptive consequential destruction of character, reputation and career. I deeply admire and respect both Loury and McWhorter. Their voices are so refreshing and restorative. Thank you for your continued efforts in fighting the good fight!

37:40 Such an excellent point. I agree, if we drop the facade if wuakity, merit, excellence etc then have all the affirmative action you want.

15:50 There shouldn't be anything that is "off limits to discuss" Discuss it all. Doesn't mean we have to accept it all, or allow it all, but we should discuss it all.

Providing a genuinely equal opportunity is not only moral, but it's good business. However, companies whose primary hiring criteria for candidates is based on *anything* other than relevant skills, professional expertise and achievement are ultimately doomed to fail. So-called "equity" hiring that gives special priorty only to certain groups based on race, sex/gender or sexual orientation, is not only illegal, but it's just as imoral as cronyism, sexism and nepotism biases in hiring

27:50 I'm black, but I would very much like to see how closely the discrepancy in SAT scores tracks with the average group difference in IQ (which is thoroughly established)

31:50 There are 3 possible explanations: 1. Racism 2. Culture/Environment 3. Genetics It is likely all 3, the question, at least if we want to improve the situation and close the disparity gap, is proportions of these three.

53:00 There is such a deep fundamental narcicism and a lack of capacity for human empathy in needing everything to be a mirror and being incapable of sharing an experience across time with someone who isn't like you.

It has taken 400 years for this country to break Black Americans. Those burdens and disparities must be urgently addressed and worked through & worked around. Address those disparities NOW…rather than in 400 more years or 25 years (a generation) of “coaching” and “development.” Those injuries REQUIRE adjustments in selection standards now. The more humane question is which adjustments can most accurately predict success in the various academic programs a descendant of U.S. slaves chooses to apply to. Personality profile, aptitudes, interests, etc.
