My favorite melody of all times, played by the great and unforgettable Glenn Miller.

My all time number one. I remember Mum and Dad taking my brother and I to see the great Glenn Miller Orchestra performing live in concert at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon back in the mid 1950s. I have been a fan ever since.

Something from an era that will never come again. Class, pure class, not to mention an artistry that produced sounds from metal and reeds that will never again be duplicated. There was something about Glenn Miller's music that is nearly indescribable; one can only listen in wonder.

This song was played this morning as my granddad was laid to rest after a hard month in the hospital, and this song will always remind me of his constant selflessness, genuine smiles and the memories I will forever cherish. Although I get teary at the first few notes thinking of how hard it was to walk out of the ceremony knowing it was the final time I could be with him I'm grateful for the time we spent together. A beautiful piece of music that in my opinion, captures my granddads era. Rest in Peace and god bless your soul. Until we meet again xx

Mr. Stewart was always a great actor i loved the movies that he did, and when you had a mom like i did you hear the songs, and how great the music was back then. not like today so full of nothing. i guess we will never know what really happened to Mr. Miller, and the airplane he was in. you can not help but wonder. if they could find the ship Titanic why not his airplane. so sad.

On this day in 1939 {April 4th} Glenn Miller and his Orchestra recorded "Moonlight Serenade", the record {on the RCA Bluebird label} was #5 on Billboard Magazine's the 'Top Records of 1939' chart... Exactly twenty years later on April 4th, 1959 the Rivieras' covered version of "Moonlight Serenade" was at #48 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; the following week it peaked at #47 {for 1 week} and it spent 11 weeks on the chart... Bobby Vinton also covered the song, in 1976 his version spent two weeks on the Top 100, the first week at #99 and the second at #97...

My favorite song by Glenn. Here he was a man in uniform fighting for our country going to put a benefit on for our troops & they shoot his plane down. What a sad, sad, day & a bunch of jackasses! They didn't even bother to find out for sure what happened to our man in uniform!!!!
@aussiness749 жыл бұрын
Sorry to say this Sandy, but his plane was never thought or believed to be shot down, not sure where you go that from. The type of plane he was in and the conditions they flew in, along with an inexperienced pilot that didn't want to fly, couldn't have helped. Although Glen wore uniform, to the best of my understanding he didn't actually 'fight.' BUT, if you're American, check out History Detectives.
@sandyRndisco19 жыл бұрын
aussiness74 Well u know how one hears all various stories. I did hear/watch on KZfaq about the above I mentioned being shot down even men stated they knew of it & was present. I also did hear of the version u stated too. Just so sad regardless of what really did happen. I tend to believe the version u describe. I would hate to think that he was shot down. Why didn't they look for him...Just a very, very sad story of another great entertainer (love his music) dying too soon in one of those small planes. Thanks for your imput.
@PalJoey-rm2yh9 жыл бұрын
The best developed and documented theory on this was icing on the wings, bad weather, and a careless decision by the pilot on whether he should have taken off in the first place.
@aussiness749 жыл бұрын
History Detectives did a huge investigation which sadly, seems to cover what happened, Look it up via google on History Detective.com Paljoey more or less has it right.

Still what a great loss & such talent. To think he was going over their (Paris) to put on a benefit for the soldiers. I blame the pilot & why do people keep getting on those stupid little planes not knowing instrument readings? Just like "the hunk" John Kennendy Jr. What a very sad day....
