Glickenhaus 007 LMH (Le Mans Hypercar): 3.5L Twin-Turbo V8 Sound in Action at Monza!

I'm not sure if in these last weeks I've received more requests for a new binaural video or to try and record the new Glickenhaus race car testing here in Monza a couple of days ago. Anyway at the moment I want to satisfy your second request. This two-days session was just the second test the 007 did after a first shakedown at Vallelunga last week and, for what I saw, everything went very very well.
This car will be Glickenhaus Racing's weapon for the whole 2021 World Endurance Championship season, which includes the 24h Le Mans race too, and it has been built to fit in the new 'Le Mans Hypercar' class. FIA and ACO expect these cars to lap 'La Sarthe' in around 3'30'', which is 15 seconds slower than the old LMP1s and 5 seconds slower than LMP2s (but these prototypes will already have 40 hp less in 2021 compared to previous seasons, so lap times are expected to increase for them too).
The Glickenhaus 007 LMH is powered by a bespoke engine built and developed by French company Pipo Motours, famous for their history of engine manufacturers for WRC, rallycross and hillclimb cars. It's a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with flat-plane cranckshaft with a max power output not over 500 kW/670hp, as per rules. The car must also have a minimum weight of 1,030 kg. In this project there are other important companies involved such as the Italian Podium Advanced Technologies, which assembles and designed the car, Sauber which takes care of the aerodynamic part and Joest Racing which helps in the development of the 007.
The confirmed drivers of the two 007 LMHs for the 2021 season are Romain Dumas, Ryan Briscoe, Gustavo Menezes, Olivier Pla, Pipo Derani, Richard Westbrook and Franck Mailleux.

It does look and sound very good but I still wish the Audi r18 and Porsche 919 were still going. HyperCard are good but there's a certain familiarity to them. The first time I heard the r18, it felt like the future had arrived.

@@LPKelly380 what is a tory supposed to be lol Aside from that, explain how F1 is "progress" Unlike in the early days of F1, the current F1 cars are so far away from road cars, it's like comparing an F-15 to an RC Plane. And despite the fact that more people have access to the internet and streaming, F1 became more irrelevant with the years. Whereas it was a true event decades ago, I don't know any person irl who cares about F1.

@@DefinitelyNotEmma I know you're trying to use RC planes as an analogy, but they've progressed a lot by incorporating new technologies. The RC transmitters use better radio technology, some hobby planes use jet engines, the rise of quadcopters is only possible due to the improved battery and motor technology, the planes can transmit live telemetry, and the list goes on.

Rear diffusers have no restrictions within the new LMP-H rules so teams can get as wild as they want, designs like this will be the norm if not the baseline in the coming years

I loved the way lmp1 overtook every other class like they are trash. Hypercar will still overtake other class but not like lmp1. When you were fast in gt class and a lmp1 overtook you, you know they were lightning fast.

@@Petidani0330 He wasn't demanding LMP1 rules, just faster lap times. LMH was never supposed as fast as LMP1, but the target lap times increased when the LMDh/IMSA convergence happened. The mimimum weight is rather high @ 1030 kg (+/- BoP) and that's a big reason why they are slower as intended.

I love that Glickenhaus went with a V8. F1 needs to take notes. These governing bodies and manufacturers forget that they are also in the entertainment business as much as they are in it for "competition." Without the entertainment factor (aka engine noise that we all love), then they're not going to attract the fans. I hope the other manufacturers follow suit.

V6s *can* sound good, even turbocharged 4 cylinders can, the Alfa Romeo 4C is proof of that. The problem lies in the regulations telling the manufacturers how they're allowed to build their engines.

@@rotteneggs29 No, that is not what he is saying. Those are two of the same engines, using the same energy. What he IS saying, is that sound made by an engine is energy spent making sound. If 1 engine was engineered to make, lets say 500hp and makes lots of noise, and another one engineered to be as fuel and energy efficient as possible(or required by regulations) it would most likely be much less noisy

I finally managed to bring home some binaural recording from last week's GTs/Touring cars/Prototypes testing at Monza but I'd like to have more variety for the actual binaural upload. So if everything remained confirmed, next week I should attend a few more test days and I'll use them for further 3D recordings. You're welcome mate! I was really hoping to record this car at my 'home circuit' since the day they unveiled their Hypercar-class plans in 2018. Yes, I indeed can't wait to see what Ferrari have in store, but also Peugeot and the other LMDh prototypes (Porsche/Audi/Acura). My only feeling is that I probably won't be able to record them testing here in Monza, because even if they'll do it, they'll also ask to place security guys all around the track. We'll see

The David team preparing against the Goliath. Reminds me of Henri Pescarolo's team. So far the project looks awesome! The car looks nice, looks quick and for a turbo V8 it sounds pretty good! The front is clearly inspired by the Ferrari 330 P3-4 thanks to Glickenhaus's love for this gorgeous 60's prototype. The rest of the car looks okay, too LMP1-ish but oh well. This new LMH class will be absolutely incredible! Can't wait! As always grazie mille Bozzy for all the super awesome shots, your efforts for capturing the car and the editing. Top job! 👍
