In the new webseries in cooperation with Glidecam USA, Stefan shows the basic movements with the handheld stabilizer from Glidecam.
To keep the focus when you move the camera is not as easy as it sounds. We take a look on the things that have influence of the focus.
And my friends once again:
we all need to bend our knees to walk but not to crouch!
Stand up straight relax and walk as usual with slight bends in the knees that occur when walking upright :-))

Excellent tutorial! AF-S is my autofocus of choice. I will often preplan my movements, I start at point B "focus" there and then preform the movement. :-)

I kept wondering what an "out of focus" lens was, but realised you were saying autofocus with a germanic 'au' instead of latin. 😅 Great series, your footage is extremely smooth, just on another level to the average youtuber. Cheers

Thanks Stefan. I was thinking that I could use my C100 and lock then release the auto focus on the hand grip, as needed but this would probably work better on a Ronin/Movi using the C100's grip fixed to the handle of the gimbal. Might try it to see how well it works.
@StefanCzech
@StefanCzech 7 жыл бұрын
Yes that's a good idea. But you have to try how it works , using the C100 Handgrip on a Ronin. If the system is heavy, you can try to grab the lookbutton also on the Glidecam.

Thank you Stefan for this great training. One thing though. Do you find more helpful to look at the camera, at the glidecam or at your steps in order to achieve greater balance? Sometimes I control better when I am looking at the subject or the glidecam as a whole. Thank's!

Hi Felix, always looking on you camerascreen...and always watch your steps ;-) Yes looking at the screen and a short look at your path is important. I will show you that in one of the upcoming tutorials. Good point. Cheers Stefan

Hey Stefan! Great Series, it was very informative and well produced. I have one thing I am still wondering about though, but I may have missed it. When you use an IS/ VR enabled lens or camera body would you turn the stabilization off? Thanks in advance.
@StefanCzech
@StefanCzech 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Clinton, its a good question. The IS in stillphoto lenses are not made for video. Eventualy you get the feeling sometime the movie is stop for some frames. That my feeling. I dont use the IS when I use the Glidecam. Cheers

Hello Mr. Czech. I really appreciate your videos. they are super informative. I want to ask a question. I want to be able to add a follow focus on my glide cam. Any suggestions on what piece should I get to connect to the top of the glide cam?
@StefanCzech
@StefanCzech 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Well the question is very commen and the answer to. The Glidcam Sytem is for smaller cameras like GH5 ect. So use the autofocus or a wideangle lense. If you looking for a bigger system then you have to work like in the professionall world: with a focus puller via WiFi. There is no way to operate the system and pull focus by you self at the same time.
@thewealthbuilder09
@thewealthbuilder09 5 жыл бұрын
Stefan Czech yes I’m aware of not being able to pull focus by myself but is there a possible way to put a rod system mount plate on the system with a follow focus. If there is can you give some recommendations. Thank you again

Hey Stephan, I'm glad that finally a professional covered everything about glidecaming, very helpful, especially for guys like me who are new at this. I'm currently using a Sony A6000 with the Kit-Lens and several vintage lenses (style & budget), and I wondered if it would be better to turn the image stabilization of the kit lens off. Do you have any experience on that topic? I've found it quiet hard to get stable shots with my A6000, because it's very lightwheight compared to other cameras. It's heavier now because I'm using a microphone as well, but do you have any idea how to further improve stability (except exercising of course :D )? Thanks again, I will definitely stay tuned for more videos :)

Turn image stabilization off when you are on a glide cam. It is unnecessary since you are on a glide cam already. Drop time is really important for balance, try to keep it around 1.5-2 seconds. That works the best for me. The only way you can improve is practice. It took me a long time to get good with a glide cam, but eventually everything just clicks. You'll know when it happens. Just keep practicing. I'm still not an expert and I've owned one for a year now.

Stefan Czech Oh cool! Just watched it! Your really skilled with the steadicam and I guess thats no news. Obviously there are shots that you cant get with glidecam the same way you do with a gimbal and some shots that you can do with glidecam might be harder to pull with gimbal. For an example if you wanna shoot camera facing straight down and turning or a dolly in move where camera turns 180 from upside down to up position. The biggest con with steadicam with me was the balancing. I got the right drop time. My "steadicam" was stabilized based on every tutorial I had seen, with a lot of tweaking of course... But with a long lens it felt like my camera was attached to a boat :D Trying to figure out the weights, millimeters of certain positions etc just frustrated me out. I just ordered DJI Ronin M. It's lighter than the previous, but obviously carries some of the cons you mentioned. What I like about Ronin(s) is that the balancing is either okay or it is not. The camera either moves (not balanced) or stays in place (balanced). Motors will take care of the rest and if there are smaller issues with balance, the motors will take care of that too. I've planned to sell my steadicam system (not sure of the brand, costs around 300 dollars). But maybe I should give it a try or another later. What I like about your glidecam videos is that a lot of the information is usable with gimbals too :)
