People don’t realize for most of them to survive was to wed into Europeans. My great great great grandmother on my mother’s side had to do this to survive. She married a German. There was no tribe. You as a native were either wiped away or changed to survive. Top saddest and darkest moments in our county’s history.... treatment of the Native Americans.

Hey Cody, your story sounds similar to mine. My grand mother on my mamas side was born in 1902, and her sister married a german named Shoemaker from georgia. Well she, the sister had a baby (Ruth) and died giving birth , so my GM stepped up and married her sister's husband to care for the baby. My cherokee GM was. Davis bf she married the German man Luther Shoemaker. Her name was odley enough, Stella Estelle Davis, sounds Italian to me. Maybe her mama named her that to keep her safe!

Now try to find our history without the involvement of white people or black people. Just native people. Bet ya cant. Better yet go to a reservation. Just dont talk about us like we are past tense and taken away from our cultures . That's why many of us are mixed white white or black or whatever. Best film on us was filmed back during my grandads era when people were more pure than they are even now. Now we get broken into blood quantum like livestock. We dont get a month. Or even a lives matter campaign. And our elders keep getting killed in hospice for the government to take their land. We are still here. Our nightmare has never ended.

The Indians that stayed did so to survive. We were Young Chicken of the Bird Clan and we stayed. My grandparents were sent to re-education schools but still upheld our oral history and with the inception of the internet were able to prove it to the letter, down to our name. Staying behind meant generations of abuse and hiding. My family was torn apart by choosing to die on their land or be given land somewhere west they didn't know about.

While we are majority African we also share Catawba bloodline as Catawbas were known to be African Hunters who were involved in enslaving as well. We have been along the Broad River in Chester, SC for over 200 hundred years. So yes real Catawbas are still alive.

@@thekidjahmez9448 I went to ancestry and just traced my fathers, father, fathers, father…lol sound like I’m saying “farther” but the irony of it all is the farther you can trace back the easier it is. I found my people because my Dad side never left Union County NC so really I’m 100% waxhaw (wisacky) aka “Flatheads”. A lot of my people died from smallpox and other plagues so we are known today as the Catawba tribe. My fathers mother family were cheraw Indians which is also an extinct tribe that joined the Catawba tribe also. So I’m definitely apart of Catawba and I will be going to the south soon to get my reserved land. *You won’t get it in a day and your ancestors won’t reveal themselves to you if you don’t take them seriously…it takes a determined mindset of connecting people to areas. Why are areas so important you might ask? Because what money means to us now land meant to us then ….we didn’t leave our land for nothing because we had gold mines and resources that would often lead to wars…we were always in protection mode against other tribes and didn’t just wander into areas that weren’t ours because we could easily die by other tribes. we didn’t have to go anywhere we were master builders. So if you can trace back to the 1800s-1900s and see what county your people were in…each place you know as a “county” was once just simply a place where tribes were living in …. This journey is amazing but it takes time. I’m still learning new stuff about my tribe everyday.

They don’t speak for us nor do they represent us. Sorry but anyone claiming to be Catawba today are heavily mixed, just like most tribes east of the Mississippi. The real Catawba are extinct, along with their culture and linguistics. The Blackfoot nation never lived in the Carolinas, that’s how I know you’re full of it. Semitic concept of light skin (civilized), dark skin (uncivilized) is based on Civilized tend to stay indoor and clothed (Mastered the elements), Uncivilized tend to stay outdoors with less clothes (slave to the elements). Coming from a African American I'm tired of these diasporain Africans claiming other groups identity,it's a insult when the word "fake" is used to undermine someone else's culture and birthrite, first your claiming aboriginal meaning your the first but refer these people as "fake"being the first you should have a distinctive language a tribal name with your own religious ceremonies and custom what area of North America did you occupy?Do you know the very person your following dane Conaway is claiming Cherokee..he's claiming one out of the 5 major tribes that had the most African slaves and feel proud being a descendent of that dark past,so what about the oboriginal claims? He knows there's no evidence to prove his fictitious claims so he's settling on a new wagon..diasporain Africans stop claiming other's identity...

@Sean Hayes... You really need to get out that paleface school brah. So-called white people are just Albino Africans. The so-called Negro is not the beady head African type. The Negro is various shades of copper/bronze and has thick wavy sometimes curly hair if unbraided. There are MANY books and documents; including but not limited Strong's Bible Dictionary and Webster's Dictionary 1828 that make the same distinction. The Mexican Chronicles and James Adair's work of 1775. And just because a nigga aint wearing feathers from his fitted cap and speaking some foreign language, doesn't mean he shouldn't be acknowledged. The whole earth worships Black American Culture.... I don't see people blowing up twitter for Nigeria's new artist Look around brah, before you speak.

Brothers Brothers listen , theres no specific way to accurately gauge the typical black american man cause they destroyed too much of our identity , if they could paint those pyramids all white then they did it here , I dont believe we all came here on a diseased wooden sail boat... Although some did , I dont believe we all are intermixed with whites from slavery , some of us are but not a whole lot infact most of our european dna markers come from overseas hundreds of THOUSANDS of years ago , and European dont necessarily mean white , Caucasoid differs from Caucasus (people from C.mountains)... People wanna gauge us from the last slave master to the darkest african , we're a differnt type of african indeed cause even not all africans look alike , You can mix us and we still hold distinct features , Moore blood could be for sure strong in our lineage , somebody taught the indians to wear masks, chant and dance around fire , aborigines been on the same thing since they left Africa , they mixed with the Indians (overseas) then discovered Australia , so lets not argue but instead embrace our mysterious circumstances , God hid our language & spirituality within us cause its meant for a direct connection with him ONLY ... And its real 💯💯💯🐺 🐺

Do you know your history of my people or met any of my people?? You should do your homework or are you part of the Africans that are of the native American movement claiming you're the real natives? My people ancestors are recognized and fought the same as yours did the same Europeans and were dne the same so many of my people had babies by These fools and were made too marry or kept as slave years Made to forget our languages and clothing but you are welcome to visit our Pow Wows anytime 😊too learn. We have been here shame on you Our people had to fight same said government to be recognized and we are through our DNA/bloodlines! Shame on you! We all come in different shades just as you My mother is dark cherry wood My daddy is light tan These people you see are not "white" they are my people you can tell by their features as well as other factors Research south carolina/North Carolina cheraw and surrounding tribes research all native tribes early 1500s 1600s, etc My Ancestors walked the trail of tears I have oral history, family photos as well as documents of our people our blood and membership cards! I keep seeing yall speaking of fake Indians though you want to be but not verified 😴 Yes we lost alot of our history due to ignorance and greed but our bloodlines still remain! Shame on you! Btw, my husband is African and has European I'm his dna/bloodline and his whole family is dark skin I don't understand why people think there is such a thing as a "Pure Race" on this planet When we all have been mingling for the past couple hundred yrs more it's insane! Btw,My peoples do not carry the rhesus factor our blood is rate also Through my Cherokee Side. Facts. 🙌 It's sad people still speaking on skin colors too judge someone Characterize someone that white, black came from massa And all natives dnt walk around in headress and moccasins That was pretty much done away with that same Era your people endured racism Just as this is a form You calling our ancestors/people $5 Indians when you dnt know a day of our life culture! Learn. Not from schools not the "white/washed" history! You should know better! I'm 46yrs old I am seeing so much false information as well as people trying too claim what they are not!

The Chickasaw and Catawba were located very far apart. The Chickasaw were native to northeast Mississippi whereas the Catawba were from North Carolina/South Carolina border. There is clearly snow seen in some of this film. Mississippi get almost zero snow, whereas North Carolina gets snow every year. Catawba are much closer to Cherokee than Chickasaw.
