I vaguely remember something about 4 years being important in Mexican cultural beliefs. You'll note that the Land of the Dead takes a lot of cues from Mexican culture, including names. Of course, I could be wrong on much of this, but it's what I remember hearing at the time.

Loved your voiceover, and the honest frustration with the problems the game does have withouth embelishing or trying to justify them, but still transmiting the beauty in this classic. Your voice is very soothing and I like to listen to you after a long day like today, so thank you ^^ you made me feel better, keep being awesome!

Excrutiatingly underrated game. It was one of my absolute favorites as a little kid even though I've never really been into story-driven games, and it still holds up just as much today to me personally. It was one of the very rare games from that era that actually got an official localization in Brazil, and it had full voice acting and everything which was even rarer, and all this in brazilian portuguese too instead of european portuguese, which is mind-blowing (and the voice acting was actually really good!). Games only started getting frequently localized here in the 2010's. So most games at the time, especially story and puzzle-centric games like Final Fantasy and Resident Evil were pretty inaccessible to the vast majority of brazilian kids that didn't understand a word of english, but that didn't stop anyone from playing, so printing out walkthroughs was common practice. Because of that, having a game like this be fully localized meant a lot. As for the softlock, I'm not sure whether that's a remaster thing or if it also happened in the old version, as I have a faint memory of that happening to me back then but I could totally be misremembering it, so take that with a very big grain of salt, lol. Also, can't you just hold shift to run? And if I remember correctly, you can also use the arrow keys to move, and you can use a gamepad in the remaster (probably, since obviously you can use it on console). I have the PS4 version so I can't really speak on the PC remaster, but there's probably also a way to bind the movement keys to WASD if that's not already the case, so you could move and run with the left hand while having the freedom to use the mouse on the right hand. So I urge you to keep playing it as it is absolute gold from beginning to end, and don't be afraid to bust out a walkthrough if you're taking too long, as the puzzles don't get any less cryptic from here, trust me. But yeah, great video and production value despite the game's technical difficulties. Keep it up!

Howdy Ben, I recently discovered your channel via your Sly Cooper video, which caught my interest since I also grew up playing that game as a kid. Since then, I've been binge watching all of your videos throughout the week and I gotta say, I think you've quickly become one of my favorite channels on the web! You're editing and writing are top notch, and your analysis on the games you've covered have been great so far. I never expected to find games like the Crooked Man and Ghost Trick interesting before discovering your channel, but your videos on them got me invested in 'em and I found myself getting entertained by what they had to offer! Grim Fandango was actually a game I was thinking of checking out awhile back since it was made by LucasArts, who also made all the Star Wars games I grew up with. From what you've shown so far, this game looks incredibly charming! I took a look at some gameplay footage and you were right, the voice acting gives everyone so much character (Your fill in was pretty good too though, lol). After seeing this, I was considering buying it on Steam but apparently I actually have it for free on Xbox since I got Xbox Game Pass, so I think I'll give it a shot sometime soon! I saw in your Patreon video that you were accepting suggestions for games to review. I would have given you a few bucks to suggest them on Patreon had I had the money for it, but since I unfortunately do not at this time, I hope you'll be fine if I share them here for now. I do however think they're right up your ally, so I do hope you'll get a kick out of them. Without further ado, here's my list: Half-Life: On the topic of playing old games and seeing how well they hold up, this game is a classic! It's an FPS game where a secret U.S government-funded research facility called Black Mesa conducts a failed science experiment that tears a dimensional rift between Earth and the border dimension, Xen, which causes several aliens from Xen to teleport to the facility and attack the the science team. You play as Gordon Freeman, a Black Mesa Scientist who has to try and survive the oncoming alien onslaught and escape the facility. Now I know you said in your Sly Cooper stream that you weren't the biggest fan of shooters, but let me tell ya, I can bet you the FPS games you might have played weren't on par with Half-Life. This game is one of the most influential games of all time. If you know a game that wasn't at least inspired by it, I can guarantee you that it was inspired by another game that was inspired by Half-Life. The game was extremely groundbreaking for its advancements in gameplay, sound design, artificial intelligence, and especially story telling. Though you do play as a named protagonist, Gordon Freeman himself never speaks in the entire game, and the game never takes control away from the player via a cutscene. This essentially makes Gordon a personification of the player, and allows you to fully get immersed in the world that the game has to offer. As such, every aspect of the game is so expertly crafted to keep the player's immersion intact and makes excellent use of environmental story telling, offering a thrilling experience like no other. Since you like some good horror and puzzles in your games, I think you'll be happy to hear that Half-Life features various puzzles between its combat encounters and horror elements appear throughout the game as well. If you end up enjoying Half-Life, I highly recommend checking out the rest of the series since they're all fantastic. Just make sure that if you play Half-Life one, don't forgot to play its expansions called Half-Life Opposing Force and Half-Life Blue Shift before playing Half-Life 2 since unfortunately I've seen a few people miss out on them. I do like the second Half-Life better, but I do wanna be clear that's only by a little bit since they're all excellent games; Half-Life is without a doubt my favorite game series of all time. If you're interested, the entire series aside from the recent Half-Life: Alyx is in a bundle on Steam that is currently on sale for just 5 bucks, which is a massive steal if you ask me (Though as of writing this comment, the sale ends in a few days so unfortunately you only have so much time to get them for a cheap price). It's also worth noting that the games are best getting into blind. Just make sure you avoid playing "Half-Life: Source", I can get into more detail about it later but it's basically a broken version of Half-Life. Resistance 1 and 2: If you're interested in covering more classic Playstation titles, I'd say these ones are definite highlights. They're made by the same people who made the Ratchet and Clank series and the recent Playstation Spider-Man titles. Resistance is an alternative history FPS series where alternate circumstances after WW1 result in WW2 never happening and the Russian Civil War is interrupted when an alien race that would be later be referred to as the "Chimera" by humanity, sends their forces to Russia in order to conquer the planet. The Chimera deploy small bug-like Chimeran creatures called "Crawlers" that infect the human populace of Russia and create Human-Chimera Hybrids. Said Hybrids would use their increased intelligence to create weaponry and technology that is far beyond anything that humanity has created. Using their tech, they are also able to create biologically engineered non-human-infected Chimera creatures made for the sole purpose of combat. Russia blockades its entire country in order to prevent the Chimera from infecting and conquering the rest of Europe and hopefully defeat the Chimera. The rest of the world however, unaware of the Chimera's presence on Earth, takes this as a threat from Russia. Thus, a several decade long arms race is formed by the nations of the world, elevating human technology and weaponry to new heights (though still having the WW2 look given the time period that these heights started development at). It isn't until 1949 however where Russia is eventually defeated by the Chimera, and the Chimera begins its invasion of Europe. The Chimera's forces and technology at this point are so vast and powerful that they are able to overwhelm all of Europe in a matter of weeks. You play as Nathan Hale, a U.S Army Soldier sent with the rest of the U.S Army to England in order to aid British forces in their defense against the Chimera. Though the series doesn't include any puzzles like Half-Life does, I think you might enjoy many of the horror aspects that Resistance brings to the table and you'd probably dig a lot about the Chimera. Though they can be confused for a hive mind, that is not actually what the Chimera is, as each Chimeran creature and human-hybrid has its own consciousness. Instead, Pure Chimeras such as "Angels" create a telepathic link between all Chimeran lifeforms that allow them to communicate telepathically. This gives the Chimera a militaristic edge over the humans by being able to receive orders from Pure Chimeras on the fly, while also allowing the human-hybrids to perform complex military tactics on the battlefield since they still have an intelligent mind (unlike actual hive mind creatures such as the Flood from Halo). Interestingly, before the Hybrids started speaking the Chimeran-language in Resistance 2, all of the Hybrids in Resistance 1 actually speak in perfect English, though they still sound a lot more alien than a normal human does (It's kind of hard to hear them during combat but it's really cool when you get a chance to hear them. It's also worth noting that the Hybrids do not have any memories of their past lives but keep their intelligence). This is what I think makes the Chimera especially terrifying. If something like Zombies infected every human on Earth, then every human would just be a dumb drone that couldn't contribute to any kind of advancement. The Chimera however could just replace humanity and yet due to the intelligence of the Hybrids and other Chimera forces, advances in technology and scientific fields could still be made on Earth, even though humanity was forcibly erased. It's a really interesting but scary thought. Both games go into a whole lot of detail about the Chimera that wasn't explained in this comment that I think you'd really enjoy. If the games sound interesting to you, I'd totally suggest checking them out; it's one of my favorite game series next to Half-Life. Unfortunately however, the games were never ported to any of the newer Sony consoles, so you'd have to get them on the PS3. PS3 emulation isn't the most accessible thing on the planet right now and even then, I don't think it's optimized enough yet to give the games justice, so using an actual PS3 to play them would give the best experience. If you do have access to a PS3 though, it's really easy to find a cheap copy of them online or in a retro game store. I do however suggest only checking out Resistance 3 if you get curious about it because personally, I don't think it's very good. Without spoiling anything, it introduced a weirdly lighthearted tone for what is supposed to be a pretty dark series and it retconned the Chimera to be a legitimate hive mind, which makes absolutely zero sense considering what the previous two games established and it ruins a lot of what makes the Chimera interesting, imo. I know this comment was pretty long, but I've really come to enjoy your content and really appreciate all the effort you put into it, and so I wanted to share some games that might interest you. Your videos have all been such a good time I think you really deserve your recent boost in popularity. If any of the games I've mentioned sound interesting to you, please let me know so I can share additional information about them that'd be important to know before playing them. Take care lad, and as someone who's going into College in September, good luck in College. If your College work is as good as your videos, I think you'll succeed!
