If you suspect that you or a loved one has been the victim of fraud, you can call or visit the National Elder Fraud hotline (stopelderfraud.ovc.ojp.gov/) at 833-372-8311 and report it to the FTC by visiting the agency’s website (reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/) or calling 877-382-4357.

I used to work in fraud. Unfortunately, it's true how a lot of victims are older folks. One woman had a really sad story. A friend of hers stole her information when she was grieving the loss of a family member. She was saying how this woman held her hand at the funeral & how she comforted her & all that. The "friend" somehow got ahold of her info & used to do her own dirty work

I relate. After my bike was stolen, I really wanted to get a GPS tracker and put it on cheap bikes in the same location and hunt down the thieves. But the cash investment was more than I could really justify. Would be way easier and cheaper to pull off than this though... I don't know why police don't just always have like 50 bait bikes around town waiting to get stolen.

My great grandma got a call from a scammer and she was going along with what the scammer was telling her to do for about 20 minutes. then the scammer told her to click on an icon on the screen. she told the scammer that she didn’t see the icon on her screen. The scammer was confused about why she didn’t see the icon until my great grandma said “maybe its because I don’t have a computer.” So basically my great grandma had wasted more than 20 minutes of the scammer’s time, which i think is great.

I may just be being overemotional here, but I cried a little bit when the scammer told Phyllis she reminded him of his grandmother. The fact that a person could build the trust of such a sweet, innocent old lady just so they can steal her life savings and ruin her life is just heartbreaking.
