Canada’s men’s national soccer team shocked the sports world last night and will be now competing with some of the world’s best. Their historic win last night sparked off celebrations across the country. Fans from coast-to-coast were jumping for joy as Canada punched their ticket to the Copa América semi-finals. Some even taking the celebrations to the streets. Jayme Doll reports on the men who are crushing expectations on the world stage.
There’s a new leader in the Islamic Republic with Masoud Pezeshkian taking the helm after the death of the last president in a helicopter crash in May. Dr. Pezeshkian is a heart surgeon and he wants to extend an olive branch to the West and ease enforcement of Iran’s sexist head scarf law. As David Akin tells us, many Iranians including many Iranian Canadians are skeptical over his ability to do all that given that it’s the Supreme Leader who rules over Iran.
Thousands of workers for the Liquor Control Board of Ontario or LCBO remain on the picket lines on day two of the strike that shuttered all of the of the province-run liquor stores. Now it follows months of unsuccessful contract negotiations between the union and management but it also focuses on concerns around Premier Doug Ford’s plans to increase alcohol accessibility across Ontario.
