I just bought two Glock 23, 0.40 S&W pistols, NIB. I bought these to upgrade my home and personal defense tools. I have had two STEYR GB (1980's) for 25 years. The Steyrs are still good, just old school. The steyr's would jam sometimes with hollow point ammo. The original owner manual for the Steyrs states use for "parabellum" ammo only ( FMJ, military grade ammo) I will keep the GBs as a collectors items. RLS

Fast forward to now and they all of a sudden don't have a problem with 40 because it's easier to get and cheaper. I grew up with the American made 40 back when 9mm was anemic so it always has a special place with me.

SEÑOR HICKOK... soy grande y algo gastado.

@I_Shotgun_Beers
@I_Shotgun_Beers 2 жыл бұрын
@@adriansoto239 No offense taken. This is actually a fact in some cases, some MOS’s are much more strict about shooting averages though. Although I will say that shooting pop up targets at multiple distances on a time limit, and having to change shooting stances three times, is much different than shooting stationary targets. When I wasn’t qualifying, and I was allowed to take my time shooting at stationary targets, I was sharpshooter level, which is 36/40 shots on target. On the qualifying course, I never shot higher than 28/40, which is just above failing. So, many soldiers may shoot within that range of accuracy, while many civilians do not test their accuracy in nearly as stressful conditions. I think most soldiers would be able to make sharpshooter if they were firing freely at targets like this with a rifle.

@@I_Shotgun_Beers I stand by this. so many people always just practice stand and fire, stand and fire. You're almost never gonna encounter a situation like that in an actual engagement. another is people shooting with one eye closed. sure. stationary target at a set distance, not gonna hinder you that much, but in actual combat, it'll get you killed. you drop an eye you loose accurate depth perception, the ability to accurately determine movement speed of target, and close off half your perifrial vision.

Some years ago we tested all available .40 S&W pistols for adoption as our duty sidearm (Actually Aberdeen Proving Ground did the testing.) Due to several problems it took a total of 3 years to finally select the winner. During the first year the Glock 22s and Glock 23s catastrophically failed between , as I recall, 6,000 and 8,000 rounds of a 10,000 round durability / reliability test. Glock fixed the problem by adding a pin to reinforce the locking block. I have written all that to say that the new Generation 5s do not have the locking block pin! I have no clue why that pin was omitted, but I was not very concerned since the Gen 5s were only in 9mm and the pre pin frames held up quite well without the locking block pin. I am concerned though with the advent of more emphatic Gen 5 chamberings. Perhaps Glock has incorporated some other way to prevent catastrophic failure.

Honestly the reason I really like the 23 is because all you need to make it into a 19 is a conversion barrel and some mags. While I was at it, I bought a .357 Sig conversion barrel too, and as you know, those rounds will work in the 40 cal mags. So, I got 3 guns in 1 honestly. The 9mm, at least in my experience with commercial ammo, has worked perfectly fine, got over 2000 rounds through it and it has not once ever hung up on me in any way. The slightly stiffer 40 cal spring makes shooting 9 through it feel like shooting a 380. Edit: I own a Gen4 Glock 23. Not a Gen5

@@iceslush2995 well that goes w/o saying, if anything ever did. It’s just an optics ready slide. But this guy got talked into the Gen 5 Glock 19mos by the the store owner back when I was purchasing (@ the time my 1 pistol)… simply bc I was reminded of the likelihood that 9mm would always be more available round… I’ve since gotten a 10.5 5.56 “pistol”! So technically, I own 2 “pistols.” & I will say I wish I had gotten the 23 for mid size & then grabbed a 26 for my 9mm carry. (If I ever could carry in MD that is!)

.40 S&W isn’t “dead” Hickok… I too am retired from both military and law enforcement and I can tell you that police agencies may be bowing to the FBI in transitioning to the 9mm for economical reasons, but many officers, at least in this area, are still carrying .40 S&W for personal off-duty EDC because they appreciate the extra power and performance. Keep in mind the fact that 9mm performance levels improving over the years also applies to .357 Sig, .40 S&W and .45 ACP which have all enjoyed some pretty drastic enhancements in terminal performance. Also, if things keep going the way they are nationally, watch what happens to 9mm availability if the SHTF and we end up in a major global war. .40 and .45 will likely be all you’ll be able to find for years to come. I don’t know what happened to your past love of .40 S&W but 9mm is a very fickle substitute. As for me, my Glock 23 is and has been my trusted best friend since 1990 and my Glock 19 will never see the day it takes the 23’s place.

The Gen 4 slide is already narrower than the frame, so they probably figured they could add weight to the slide to match the frame width, not really affect how it prints, & make a smoother shooter. Really unfortunate to hear about the holsters though.

@jaycamacho8179

@@Jeremy_Meeks it could. Going with a heavier or lighter springs messes with the cycling of the slide a bit. Going to a 20lbs (heavier) spring, you’re gonna want to make sure the ammo is fairly hot so it can cycle the slide properly. If the ammo is too weak then it can cause malfunctions.

An honest review. I bought a Glock 22 gen 4 L.E.O. trade in at a great price and it shoots great. Also I got a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel when ammunition started to become scarce. The Glock 22 is a full size gun and it's a bit harder to carry concealed. I switched to a Sig 365XL for my EDC not because I disliked Glock but because my local Academy Sports store had it in stock , I call it my government issue because my stimulus check paid for it. Better than an OBama phone if you want to reach out and touch someone.

My Glock 23 is one of my favorite guns. One neat trick is you can easily convert it from 40 S&W to 357 Sig and still use the same magazines. I use a Lone Wolf conversion barrel in 357 Sig and it works fine on the Glock 23. I haven't encountered any feeding or jamming issues, with either caliber. You just have to remember not to run a 357 Sig into a 40 S&W pipe!💥It's a great shooter in either caliber! I appreciate your videos!

As for removing the mag with force, Glocks have a cutout at the rear of the mag well to grab the mag with your thumb. Look at it, that's why the lower backside of the grip is rounded. (A lot of people like to add the "dust plug" in that rear cavity and renders it unusable, that's the only benefit I can see to having one in the front).
