The guy who designed the 1911 was one of the most famous geniuses in his field. The 1911 is an all around masterpiece of design... functionally, aesthetically... so much so, that it's still in extremely common use, more than 100 years later. If you recognized that, it means you have good taste. You might also appreciate some of his other designs, such as the Browning Automatic Rifle (aka the BAR).

I had 1911 in 45 acp when I was a m60 machine Gunner. We used them and my time ended in late 1979. We had the 1911 made by singer, Ithaca, colt and others. I will take the 1911A1 myself. I like a short crisp trigger at 4 pounds. This just can't be done in the Glock, it is in effect a double action gun, you are moving the striker to the rear with the trigger to fire the gun. I know that there are people that love the Glocks, but I will point out that to fire a Glock, you have to intentionally move the trigger a long way, making a oops firing impossible. This is why they are issued to the police, because then if someone is shot, the shot was intentional. With my 1911, I can fire it with a light pull on the trigger of less than 1/10th of an inch. For the police, it comes down to lower insurance rates with the Glocks.

There was a story, I think it was back in the 70s, the Miami PD was looking to replace their 38s. The trial came down to the 38s or a 1911. The final test was to see how long it would take a fire arm novice (bad guy) to shoot the weapon after they took it from the cop. The longer the better. The 38 was like 1.5 seconds. The 1911 was like 18 seconds. They went with the 1911. The other great thing about a 1911, it uses the same amo as a Thompson. One amo.

Dumb. A skilled gunner with a Glock will outshot a skilled gunner with a 1911. What happens if you pull your 1911 and you miss the thumb safety under stress? What if the hammer gets hung up in your clothing? “Damn, only 9 rounds . . . I’m out”Just stupid. Carrying a Glock decreases the amount of negative variables working against your survival. I’d rather make it home to my family alive than in a body bag. “It’s a shame he died, but least he had a cool 1911”. Everybody knows the Glock is superior. They just have ego tied up in outdated junk and stupid designs with a bunch of levers. Simplicity is superior. Just the fact that a Glock can be field stripped in seconds makes it better.

@zackzander425 I would say that depends on the shooter. If you're trained with the 1911, you pull down the saftey as you draw it. Also, they have great triggers. I feel if something still works, then it really isn't obsolete. The 1911 inspired most modern modern handguns and people like that history attached to it. There could be a ton of reasons too for personal preference. Tons of modern options too. As for ammo...well there is the 2011! 😅😆👍🏻🫡

Food for thought: the 1911 was established because it revolutionized how people thought about handguns. It was a fine piece of equipment for the time. Likewise, the glock did the same thing. Another big difference is that a 1911 is typically chambered in .45 ACP while Glock Pistols are typically Chambered in 9mm. .45 has more stopping power and a higher velocity (Hurts the wrist if said wrist isn’t that strong.) 9mm can usually be carried easier, but at the expense of less power compared to .45 (Can be fired for far longer without wrist fatigue.)

The feeding ramp is polished to a mirror sheen. It's not going to have any feeding problems. The slide's been replaced with a reinforced version, and it meshes perfectly with the frame. The frame itself has been iron-welded and scraped down multiple times for maximum precision. The front strap part of the frame has been checkered to make it dig into the hand. That prevents any slipping. The sight system's original too. It's a 3-dot type. It's got an enlarged front sight, giving it superior target sighting capability. The regular hammer's been replaced with a ring hammer. That enhances the cocking control and increases the hammer-down speed. They also reworked the grip safety to accommodate the ring hammer. It looks like they eliminated it altogether. This is a tool for pros. The thumb safety and slide stop are extended for precise handling. The base of the trigger guard is whittled down so you can use a high grip, and the trigger itself is a long type for easy finger access. The trigger pull is about 3.5 pounds. that's about a pound and a half lighter than normal. The magazine well has been widened to make it easier to put in a new magazine. The magazine catch button has been filed down low to make it harder to hit it by mistake. The mainspring housing has been changed to a flat type to increase grip, and it's even been fitted with stepping so that it won't slip from the recoil when firing. On top of that, they added cocking serrations to the top part of the slide. That lets you load and eject cartridges faster in an emergency. Whoever did this is a professional, no question. This thing could shoot a one-hole at 25 yards in a machine rest

Idk, I read most of it as banter within a community. I mean, we can all agree that we wanna be armed and able to defend ourselves. More so, most understand someone is gonna fair better with the weapon they vibe with… within reason. And I say within reason because my favorite thing to shoot is a revolver, but I’m taking an auto outside the home because holy crap dumping a cylinder with DA trigger pulls is messy.

I honestly love 1911’s. Their trigger, the weight, the slimness, how they shoot, everything. However, if I were to pick one to use as a concealed carry, I’d take the Glock (pains me to say that). It’s a lot easier to attach a laser/light to a Glock than a 1911, and, the Glock holds more bullets. Not that I’m gonna be getting in a 10-15 bullet shootout, but I’d rather have the extra capacity and not need it, than need it and not have it.

The M1911 came out in… you guessed it, 1911. The Glock was invented over 50 years later. Lower recoil for more accurate follow up shots and more ammunition will always win you more battles than sheer stopping power. Why do you think that Army STILL hasn’t gotten rid of the M4 despite accepting the XM7(M5)?
