If you want to know how well your kidneys function, a good metric to look at would be the Glomerular Filtration Rate.
The Glomerular Filtration Rate is not constant. It needs to be increased or decreased depending on how much the kidney needs to get rid of.
Well, how do you affect the glomerular filtration rate? In this video, you will get the answers. Enjoy!

Thanks! Was looking up a few medical terms used in the notes from my recent blood labs. This word came up & a Glomer... word appeared. This interestingly informed me enough to 'get it' about the current function rate of my kidneys! Now I can later view other videos on this topic & see whether I've changes to make. So I subbed to you, & will tell others. This little old lady loves learning new things. Exercising the brain is an important way to maintain its power, like exercising muscles to gain strength. :-)

I love how passionate you are about teaching - it makes it so much easier!!! I understand the concepts of this, but I have a question....how do you control the diameter of the specific vessels? As in, how can you choose "I want to constrict the (x), but not the (x)? 🤨
@InteractiveBiology
@InteractiveBiology Жыл бұрын
Hi Bridget. Glad you're finding value in the content. With regards to your question - I'm honestly not sure if that's possible, besides locally regulating the hormones that interact with the constriction of blood vessels (things like angiotensin, renin, etc).

What if you only have one kidney? Is there a difference between the right and left kidneys? I donated one (left) 4 years ago and my GFR is between 60 and 70 percent.
@beatricesmith3394
@beatricesmith3394 2 жыл бұрын
Actually there will be no difference but the one kidney will have a little pressure on it by filtration of urine and osmoregulation as you donated the other kidney but you are healthy and fine. Don't worry 😀
