Hi! If you're new to the channel, I primarily make videos on Arkham Horror the Card Game, but I've been wanting to branch out/love Jaws of the Lion so there you go. Consider this a teaser of the Red Guard class along with some light tips/strategy.

I might be returning to these, my question is whether to cover all the player cards a class has, or break them up into two parts: part one being levels X-4 (and available items) and the super-secret levels 5 and up cards. I’m also debating between redoing this video or updating it.

Thanks for the overview! Red Guard is my favorite Jaws class and one of my favorite Gloomhaven classes overall so I was psyched to see your take on him. For perks, in general, the most consistent path is: clear out negative cards -> get rid of zeros -> put in your preferred plus cards. I usually pick remove, replace, and then add (except for remove 0s, which I like to grab after all my negatives are minimize). Unsurprisingly, some people love adding in the biggest cards first and then hoping for big turns. Red Guard is never going to do the most damage but he's got great sustain, steady non-attack damage, and excellent enemy manipulation. Keep the overviews coming!

Thanks for the kind words! I'll take your advice and replace the -1s, then remove the four 0s for my next three perks.

Excellent. It is great after you get your negative modifiers down to one -1, the deck is so thin that it can really hum. The improved attack deck makes a surprising difference at higher levels.

I agree with you choices point for point but for one difference, I like to add both +1 fire/light before removing the 0s. I feel that my way is a bit more consistent, while your way is a bit more swingy, meaning you have more chances of getting either "x2" or "miss" or draw the -1 (-1 is not a big deal most of the time, but still). On top of that I find those fire/light elements really helpful since you have two chances to use the element; in the attack that makes you draw the card you may have the luck to use it instantly, or you have it for the next turn anyway. On the other hand you will have more damage than me on average. Players choice I guess. Edit: Now looking at it again maybe even I would try to add the +1 fire/light before changing the second -1 for a +1. That would also look fine to me I guess. But yeah, getting rid of negatives as early as possible I think is the way to go. We always play on hard and it's working like a charm. Things usually go very (and I mean VERY) close but we have only ever repeated 1 scenario (Hatchet special colloseum match with two players wtf). ^^
