I learned a valuable lesson and I learned it in one take. I'm not cut out for prison, of any kind. Head wouldn't shut down. The way I took my own good advice about that is where it stopped. I didn't apply the same determination to something as serious and paid a different price. I have a cupple of book's inside my head that would make interesting reading but will go unwritten. Just another story in the longest story never told. Happy to come out relatively intact, a bit like yourself Bill.

You're absolutely bang on again, Billy. I hate the worship that lot get, the majority of them were nasty bullies. It's really worrying when you see teens and young men buying into that glorification. How about some non violent, non criminal heroes to help guide them, that should be the narrative getting pushed towards their demographic.

Brilliant as always Billy, I am a granddad now but always remember when I was a kid, being stoop on a crap school in the Bullring on Saturday nights and there would be scraps between men, but after winner would pick the loser up and they would shake hands, bullies weren’t tolerated. A famous character was Hughie Smith who use to do a Houdini Strong man act, in London Road, the Pier Head had lines like: I have 3 sons one in the Army, one in the Navy and one in the sack. Or after his whip round look up at the clock on the Liver Building at 5 to 3 and say shaking is collection bag, I have enough money to last time, provided I’m dead by 3 o’clock. And while doing his whip round say, if you are financially embarrassed a smile will do, but not too many smiles around here. What a character, kept us entertained for hours and never cost a coin.

Lee Duffy may have bullied a few people who were "Easy Targets" but he also wanted to fight Viv Graham who in his day was known as a hardman of Newcastle. Lee put four of his doormen asleep with one punch each and kept one of Them standing to witness it and to tell Viv he was going to do him next. Even though Lee was a known bully he was also a legit hardman.

I’m from Middlesbrough and in my 50,s I was around with Lee . Honestly he was a total bully who would sly people punch glasses and cans into peoples faces when they where taking a drink. Big Brian hardly knew Lee knocked about with him for a month or 2 bullying vulnerable people which have sons nephews etc now who hate him. The younger generation now are a different breed sadly and will stick a blade in your side while your backs turned. Why a man of god as Brian calls himself still glorifies his past violence bewilders me.

Well said Bill. The continuing glorification of hard men from decades ago seems pointless nowadays. Speaking from experience of living and working in a part of the world where the value of life is very cheap, it's not about being handy, it's simply about who has the least to lose ,the most the gain from acts of extreme violence and a lack of comprehending the consequences, whether it be prison or death. Duffy, Sykes, French and their ilk are/were local bullies and a complete irrelevance to the world today.

Anyway mate i can easily break it down as to why lee Duffy has the legend status, its the exact same reason as bruce lee but on a smaller scale,he was a complete one off individual that made a massive impact then died young, thats the most important thing is that lee died at 26.so we all get to here about the mad stories and the crazy stuff and then we fix him in our minds as immortal and invincible and forever young. Its that simple people, its the same reason people in the 80s and 90s would still swear up and down that Bruce Lee would beat the shit out of mike Tyson lol anyway respect mate and shout out to the scouse lads yous are all mad and hilarious haha i had a blast in ther back in 09

End of last year I was in Lanzarote and got to know a nice couple from Middlesborugh staying in the same hotel. I happened to mention Lee Duffy to them. They looked at me blank-faced. They'd never heard of him. And they were from the same town! So there's the reality of one of these "legends".

Spot on. Being a bully and slapping lads who can't fight, or giving a sly one to a bouncer who's not looking shouldn't make you a hometown legend. Brian is suffering for it now, though, windows going through, car on fire. He thinks he knows who it is, but truth be told, there's a list of hundreds who want revenge on him, and Lee by extension. It's a different world now, though. Most lads these days go to the gym and train, lots of lads learning to fight aswell. You never know who you're messing with, so fight nobody. Some of the lads in my mma gym look like whoppers, pure victims. Break your arm and choke you unconscious in 20 seconds if you go after them, though.

I am from Newcastle, I met Duffy once when he was around the pubs in Newcastle. Its people keeping him alive, although he is dead. Its because he had a short life, and the things he did during that short time. He Wass destined to die young.
