It is the annual tradition of the congregation at St. John of Damascus Orthodox Church in Tyler, Texas to chant this beautiful hymn of gratitude on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. This year was particularly special because the service was chanted in their new temple.

My mom has stage 4 breast cancer, and I listened to this for encouragement. It started immediately at kontakion 8 (16:57): "How near Thou art in the day of sickness." Thankful God sees sorrow and suffering and will one day bring beauty from it all.

O Christ our God, You are worshiped at all times and in all places and are glorified both in heaven and on earth. You are patient, generous in mercy, rich in compassion, loving to the just and merciful to the sinner. You call all of us to repentance through the promise of blessings to come. O Lord, receive our supplications at this very hour. Direct our lives in the way of Your commandments. Sanctify our souls, purify our bodies, set our minds aright, cleanse our thoughts, deliver us from all affliction, wrath, danger and need. Surround us with Your holy angels, so that, guided and guarded by their ranks, we may reach unity of the faith and the knowledge of Your unutterable glory. You are blessed unto ages of ages. Amen

This is a new parish and icons take a long time and are expensive. It takes most parishes years to complete their icon projects. Wonderful to see a parish in Tyler Texas! God bless you all, and great to listen to this on Thanksgiving morning.
