The Gloucestershire Way starts on the banks of the River Wye at Chepstow (southern end) and then winds it way through the Forest of Dean. Before crossing the Severn Vale to Birdlip Hill on the edge of the Cotswold escarpment. After walking around the Cotswolds, the Way descends back down into the Severn Vale to finish at Tewkesbury Abbey (northern end).
Due to the length of the Gloucestershire Way which is approximately 95 miles, I have broken my journey into three separate videos.
Part 1, Forest of Dean - Chepstow to Huntley, Days 1 and 2 (this video),
This video covers the route from the start of the walk at Chepstow then up through the Forest of Dean to Forest Gate, Huntley.
Part 2, Severn Vale - Huntley to Birdlip Hill, Days 3 and 4,
This video covers the route from Huntley across the Severn Vale to The Air Balloon pub roundabout at the top of Birdlip Hill on the edge of the Cotswold escarpment.
Part 3 - Birdlip Hill to Tewkesbury, Days 5 to 7,
This video covers the route from The Air Balloon pub roundabout at the top of Birdlip Hill on the edge of the Cotswold escarpment through the Cotswolds to the end of the walk at Tewkesbury Abbey.
I backpacked the first three days of the Gloucestershire Way then ‘day walked’ the rest of the Way. I walked in a northerly direction and my daily schedule was:-
Day 1 - Chepstow to Parkend, 12 miles (camped at Ellwood Football Club, Ellwood).
Day 2 - Parkend Valley to Huntley, 15 miles (camped near Forest Gate, Huntley).
Day 3 - Huntley to Gloucester, 10 miles.
Day 4 - Gloucester to Birdlip Hill (top), 13 miles.
Day 5 - Birdlip Hill (top) to Lower Slaughter, 18 miles.
Day 6 - Lower Slaughter to Winchcombe, 16 miles.
Day 7 - Winchcombe to Tewkesbury, 11 miles.
