The Fulcrum is the sweet spot for me. I run pretty hot so it's typically the heaviest glove I'll need. Like you, I'll always have a light liner glove to wear and something heavy if I or a partner starts to get real cold. I'm definitely going to checkout the Velocity Guide though!

I don't have the Pivot glove (or any of the gloves you show there) but reading the description on their website I'm guessing they're doing something similar to mountain equipment, ie. more insulation on the back to keep them warm but the palm side has less so they're dexterious. Gloves I mainly use are Punisher from BD, really nice ice climbing glove. Fission glove from arc'teryx, older model meant for skiing I believe but I really like them for climbing, especially seconding. My newest addition is Hestra alpine pro. Quite expensive brand but having heard nothing but good about them I decided to buy a pair. Skiing glove, only used it twice but so far, so good. Also BD guide glove is a ski glove, meant for going downhill where you get colder ooooor a belay glove :P

All great gloves. The BD guide is a do it all glove. Used very often on Denali climbs and is typically the only 5 finger glove on the summit of Everest and other 8k peaks. It may have been marketed as a ski glove but to call it a ski glove would deter climbers from having one of the warmest 5 finger gloves there is. Especially ice climbing before sunrise in the winter at high elevation.

Hey man what are your thoughts on using the Rab Tour Khroma Infinium as a go to in winter mountaneering(up to grade 3 gullys and lots of winter walking with plenty of rope work). Seems like its a step up in warmth from the Rab Velocity guide gloves and better wind protection. Coudl they be a go to 90 percent of the time glove for active work or too much?

I also have a pair of the Rab Fulcrum gloves. The issue I have with them is that on a recent trip to the UK Lake District I got caught in a heavy rain and hail shower and had difficulty getting them on with cold hands. I also found the the inner layer of material would bunch up near the inner cuff, probably a result of my hands being partially damp.

Yeah that’s a huge issue with all gloves that have that internal liner. I’ve had it real bad with the Black Diamond Guide. I really prefer the Rab Guide Lite over the Fulcrum. Very similar. But based on their Guide 2 instead of the Fulcrum being based on the Pivot. I lost my Guide Lite when I fell in a crevasse a few years ago. I loved those gloves.

Great video and I bought a pair of Velocity Guide and Guide 2 after seeing your review. I was confused between ME G2 Alpine Glove vs Velocity Guide and RAB Guide 2 vs BD Soloist but tilted in favour of the Guide 2 as they look neater, sleek and the fact that I couldn't find many review of the soloist. ME G2 Alpine were a bit costlier than Velocity Guide. A question - did you go to Denali? Really keen to hear about your experience and the gear that you used.

Hi. Thanks for the video !! I will check out the Rab gloves and definitely the mitts !! To get ready for my trip
@teatimeinthealpine5752
@teatimeinthealpine5752 Жыл бұрын
The mitts are an absolute must. Sometimes I'll save weight and only bring midweight gloves if I have my mitts. I'll throw my mitts on for breaks but if I am working hard, I don't need that heavy of a glove.

@@teatimeinthealpine5752 thanks thats a good endorsement based on your knowledge of the range of RAB gloves! I also ordered a pair of ME guide gloves i nthat awesome Tan/navy blue colour 😍(main difference is they are fully waterproof compared to the Baltoro which is more for cold dry freezing days)
@teatimeinthealpine5752
@teatimeinthealpine5752 5 ай бұрын
@@johnmilon866 Good choice! Yes, the Baltoro is a softshell glove. It breathes well, doesn't retain too much sweat on highly active days. That's the main downfall to a waterproof. I actually left my Baltoro's on the roof of my car and drove away from the mountain. It was a very sad day because they are such a universal glove!

The first Rab Guide you mentioned- is that the Guide Lite or the Velocity Guide?
@teatimeinthealpine5752
@teatimeinthealpine5752 Жыл бұрын
Velocity Guide. Though, the Guide Lite is also an awesome glove. One of my favorites in fact unless it's extremely cold. It's very similar to the Fulcrum I talked about in the video. It is in the next warmth category up from the Velocity Guide. If you're working hard in the Guide Lite, you will likely overheat. Perfect mid-layer glove.

I see you are a RAB fan..Can i ask you your opinion on the RAB Astral Mitts? If you ever tried them.. Also,what do you know about the BD Enforcer Glove? I'm looking for a general winter mountaineering glove,on the warmer side,with dexterity for ice tools and waterproof.. What would you recommend? I tried the BD Punisher,i found them very small in size and kind of thin..
@teatimeinthealpine5752
@teatimeinthealpine5752 Жыл бұрын
The Punisher is a thin glove. I wouldn’t enjoy it with tools. The Enforcer is awesome. It’s very close to the Guide 2 from Rab. Good dexterity. Holding ice tools for prolonged amounts of time in temps 10 degrees and lower, you’ll want a thicker glove. The BD Guide is a necessity at that point. The Astral is a good mitt. I’ve handled it, but wouldn’t recommend it over the Rab 8000 mitt. At only one extra ounce, it only makes sense.

@@teatimeinthealpine5752 Hi, It doesn't seem like the Rab Guide 2 gets a lot of good reviews, why do u like so much over BD Guide?
@teatimeinthealpine5752
@teatimeinthealpine5752 Жыл бұрын
@@jamesmaio8411 I don’t. I love both. But they are different gloves entirely. The guide 2 is very dexterous and has a great warmth to dexterity ratio. The guide 2 also isn’t jammed packed full of insulation so you likely won’t sweat out the glove and end up having cold hands. The guide from BD is incredible and is necessary at a certain point. Anything above 20 degrees, it’s just too warm of a glove. They both have their place. When the BD guide is used incorrectly, you hands can get very cold with the amount of sweat you’re producing.
@jamesmaio8411

@@teatimeinthealpine5752 I was just trying to buy one of them. I tried on the BD Guide and seems so stiff and didn't feel warm to me. My circulation in fingers not great. So I was thinking on going for RAB but don't have that many good reviews. What do you think?
