Legatus Sedricillius Eh, Alexander's tactics, we're basic but effective for the enemy he was fighting and most of his early success was due to his father well Julius Caesar was more adaptive to most situations and was constantly thinking how can I make the enemy up early how can I make them skip breakfast etc etc, and he greatly understood how to control the people and have complete Obedience of his Legions.

Legatus Sedricillius And Alexander had a huge arrogance issue he thought he was going to be one of the Gods, or Greek Legends and and wouldn't let anyone else rule his Empire and he didn't understand morale very well his army even revolting against him a few times.

I always thought the drama around killing Caesar in this game was very funny. Octavian takes over, becomes Emperor, renames himself Augustus, and Rome becomes stronger, and stronger, and in other words, the Assassins lose. They seem really good at losing and killing a lot of people and accomplishing nothing in doing so while making it seem like a big deal.

"He was my friend first, but you are right. Moving on." That is not how Cæsar felt about Pomey's death at all. He was absolutely livid that Pompey was killed. Cæsar believed that in doing this Ptolemy had no respect for a man who was Consul of Rome. A Roman Consul was far more powerful and renowned than even an Egyptian Pharaoh, and Ptolemy had forgotten his place. Not only because Pompey was his friend, or at least his partner in Cæsar's climb to power, but because Cæsar wanted more than anything to bring Pompey back to Rome alive. Had he been able, Cæsar would have been given a triumph in which Pompey, the conquered enemy General, would be publicly executed through ritualistic suffication, much as Vercingetorix was. However, the thing is that Cæsar would have refused such a triumph, choosing instead to pardon his "friend" and welcome him back into Rome, as he did with all of the other optimates. In doing this he would have presented himself as a man who cares more about showing mercy to former friends than about personal glory, and Pompey would have owed him. Ptolemy robbed him of this opportunity to dramatically enhance his public image, and he was understandably pissed. So much so that it was this which encouraged him to use Cleopatra to overthrow Ptolemy.

As you said, Caesar cares his public image, an image-conscious opportunist. It's not Ptolemy's fault wanted to ally with Caesar, but Caesar‘s who didnt ally with Ptolemy first and discuss how to capture Pompey. so imagine hes like "yeah it's kinda everyone's fault tell my biographer say I'm furious and let's move on to business..." totally makes sense

0:15 Caesar didn’t nearly act this kindly to Ptolemy? He was *furious* at Ptolemy for killing his friend and basically put him on house arrest until he was spirited out of Alexandria by Pothinus, he was going to pardon him not kill him, infact Caesar was huge on clemency, if you rebelled against him but just fell on his feet and begged for forgiveness, he’d of been cool with you. Aya overall seemed very short sighted, what did she want to do? Kill Caesar to end tyranny? Well that failed because Octavian then became Emperor, and moreover Caesar was an actually good king to his people, honestly I don’t think Caesar could’ve been manipulated so easily. Moreover it was basically Monarchy or bust, the republic by this point was dying and it was either A. Tons of civils wars and bloodshed to come (which had basically been going on for a long time already) which would end in the fall of Rome which I don’t need to tell you would have unknowable ripple effects. Or B. Unite Rome under one ruler, one figure, one decisive ruler who’d bring the Empire in order.

Uh, for the record, there were basically like 3 civil wars in Rome's 500 year history as a Republic. In the next 500 years there would be like a civil war every 15 years or so. So if your concern is about the people; then murdering every Caesar is definitely the best course and fixing the Republic. Let's not worship tyrants. Julius Caesar was badass, but he could have fixed the institutions rather than destroy them.

@NotDumbassable
@NotDumbassable 6 жыл бұрын
sry, but that´s complete bull... There were some occasional use of Clipei by Triarii, Equites and Tribunes in the later period of the Republic. But usually, Legionaries used Scuta, most probably of the Al-Fayyuum type (www.roman-reenactor.com/wpimages/wpf3ab5917_05_06.jpg) as is written by Polybius. He even noted how Roman soldiers were more courageous than others due to the size of their shields.
@NotDumbassable
@NotDumbassable 6 жыл бұрын
Geordie Nicholson whenever Soldiers brought their own equipment, they were entitled to bring whatever the hell they wanted, and if anyone still used the clipeus, it was rich men, like the Tribunes, equites etc. there is archeological evidence of that
@NotDumbassable
@NotDumbassable 6 жыл бұрын
@Geordie Nicholson Student of history here, so I´m afraid I do know what I am talking about I do love historical debate though ;P If you read Raffaele D´Amatos Arms and Armour of the Imperial Roman Soldier, you´ll see a archeological plate of an Imperial Tribune using a clipeus on a stele. Generally it seems equipment was less standardised than the Trajan Pillar makes it seem. Old equipment tended to be used until it was no longer operable (it cost a lot to produce after all) But you are right, most of Caesars Legions were equipped in Cisalpine Gaul before the Gaulish war, though he used a lot of Pompeian Legionaries after Pharsalos, who had been equipped and recruited rather decentralisedly in the east, so their equipment would have been more rag-tag. I´m pretty sure some of them would have used a Greek Thyreos derivative.
@NotDumbassable
@NotDumbassable 6 жыл бұрын
I very much agree with this, nontheless, a Tribune is a Roman soldier of sorts^^ I just wanted to prove a point there^^ Legionaries would have long foregone the Clipeus, though like with all things ancient, we can never be too sure. The shields most Legionaries seem to be using in ACO are very much like the type associated with Auxiliary soldiers

Because black Egyptians are/were real. Nubians are/were black. Southern Egyptians were black, Greeks and Romans in Egypt were light, and many other Egyptians were brown and possibly mixed. Ancient Egypt was very multicultural. If you ever go to Egypt you can see it for yourself with all the different styles from different countries and the various skin colours shown. Pro-white or Pro-black arguments on Ancient Egypt are both stupid since the place was multi-racial and a major part of the ancient world where cultures came together.

But there was actually an error in the scene, but only a small one, nothing to major. Funny enough it relates to the armor of Brutus, but more specifically the dagger that comes along with it. Because it was established that it was that dagger that Brutus stabbed Ceasar with. But in the scene in Origins it was a normal looking dagger, as opposed to the rather unique look of the one in Brotherhood (that was actually the reason I watched the video, to check if it was the same dagger). But I think that can be easily overlooked, since the dagger in Origins was only shown for a few seconds.

Andree Tungcab Sorry I was thinking of another emperor hahaha, Octavian and Antonius formed their alliance to kill the Assassin backed army led by Brutus and co. When Augustus and Antonius/Cleopatra went to war, Im guessing the Assassins did something to influence the side of (the new Emperor) Augustus....seeing as they (Aya) killed Cleopatra and maybe even Antonius. the devs straight up swapped Caesar and Brutus' personalities in the game just so the former was seen as the brutal dictator while the latter was the nice dude friend of the peasants. Caesar was a member of the Populares, Brutus was a member of the Optimates. Caesar irl was assassinated because he was popular with the common folk, his policy was to give land to the people. His land reforms redistributed it to the poor, leading to be loved by ordinary folk but hated by the conservative Brutus and co. for his repeated afronts to the status quo.They made Brutus want to give Rome's citizens their land. What a joke. It's genuinely sickening if you care about history. I want old AC back.

If Caesar was such a horrible tyrant, why did the people of Rome burn down the city and scream for all of the conspirators heads when they found out he had been murdered? The ultimate irony of this scene in the game is that it was actually the senate that was trying to control the people with their inner circle of rich oligarchs and nobles. I thought the Assassin order was supposed to be fighting for the free-will of the people? Not a bunch of snobby backstabbing aristocrats?

Caesar was great man, beloved be the people of Rom. He started out as hard working yet mischievous man and grew to be Reformator, whom the people gladly accepted as their Dictator. His death lead to nothing but civil war. Yet the one thing that dissapoints me most is that his greatness which he conveyed not only with his mind but also with his physique comes way to short. With his bright hair and almost black eyes he must have seemed more than just mysterious and cunning. Whilst most people had an average height of 5 to 5.5 feet, Caesar stood 6 feet tall. It must have been amazing to stand next to him.

cant speak for everyone, but for me its the realisation. 1. women? in the senate? aegyptian women in the senate? cmon, patres conscripti (dont remember english translation, it was how the senators were often called) would've screamed and point a finger at her the moment she had tried to enter. she couldnt have been there, neither could've Bayek. 2. Caesars speech... just follows some rumours, never took place, never could've been taking place. thats just dumb, completely historically innacurate and OOC. and the source rumours (game goes too far from them, but still i can see where it was all taken from) i can bet were the parts of Augustian propaganda. it just fits too much. 3. legionaires? around the building where senate had a meeting? completely. 100%. historically. inacurate. yes, i can remember couple of times when peoples assembly was surrounded by armed forces, but it was never an army at that period of time. and they werent there when Caesar was killed (he had even dismissed his own personal guards not long before), otherwise, you know, he couldn't have been killed at all. so yeah, i have no problems with assassination of Caesar taking place in game, i have problems with lots of historical inacuracies, not only with the ides of march, but, you know, with the portrail of Caesar, which reminds of the actual historical person quite rarely, with Brutus and Cassius teleporting to Egypt with some magic and everything else that make me feel like wtf. ubisoft has just messed everything up from the moment the game reached romans arrival. thats it.
