The survival horror game that started it all is back with a brand new coat of paint. This game is a true classic that will go down as one of the most important games of its time. With that being said, almost 20 years after it's release, the gameplay really shows its age. Some of the game feels archaic now, like having to load every time you open a door, or finding a endless amount of keys to open new sections. These aspects of the game seem a little silly now. Nonetheless, Resident still shines in creating a scary atmosphere. What it does best is create a quiet and creepy environment that can make your skin crawl as you slowly creep around corners, afraid of the next creature that might pop out. If you loved the game back then, you will surely have fun reliving the Resident Evil experience, but if this is your first time around, you might get bored at the "key-fetch" objectives and simple puzzles. The graphics look amazing compared to the original, but this is definitely not a "next-gen" remaster. One more thing to note is that on the Xbox One we experience some performance issues, as the audio would occasionally fall out of sync with the video. Other than that though, performance and movement were smooth.
There is a lot of story exposition that takes place when you pick up and read documents. Even though including these documents would have fleshed out the story a bit more, we felt it better to leave them out since they would slow down the video way too much. As always we included relevant dialogue, important gameplay and all cutscenes to create one fluid cinematic experience. If you enjoyed, make sure to like, comment and share!
