The Bench That Does It All, But How Well? IronMaster Super Bench Pro

This is the bench that does it all but does that mean it can do it well? The IronMaster Super Bench Pro is a bench that you can do dips with, throw a preacher curl attachment on, strap it to a functional trainer, and seriously so much more. But if it does all things how good does it do them?
In this video we're reviewing the IronMaster Super Bench Pro and comparing it to similar benches in this price range. Does the vinyl grip like a Rep AB-5000? Does it match the build quality of a Rogue Adjustable Bench 3.0?
I bought this shirt from Iron Junkies Gym who's fighting stage 4 colon cancer / ironjunkiesgym

I have had the original Super Bench for years (before they came out with the Pro). I did a ton of research before getting it and it was and still is the best i could find for apartment dwellers. Just recently i decided to start getting some more of the attachments. Pullup bar - I bought this with the bench. Have used it twice a week for years. Has 5 different height settings. Put some weight on the legs if you tend to come down fast so the bench doesnt tip. I am 200 lbs and i have done weighted pullups with 50+ lbs but with a weight vest so no issues with hitting the bar at all. I turn the pullup bar the "wrong way" and use a bolt in one of the holes to keep it at the height i want. Then wrap a band around it to do seated lat pull downs. It works well enough if you don't have the space for a dedicated machine. Dip Bar - Sturdy and same with adding weight. Use a vest if you can. You can put the dip bar facing the other way as well. Might work better for dips with a weighted belt. Leg Ext attachment - Holds a ton of weight and accepts standard or olympic weights. Again i use it for stuff other than legs. If you have another seat you can position yourself under it for calf raises, but my favorite is using it for seated rows. Get some nylon straps, wrap it around the end, and put your feet up against the supports when you sit on the bench. The pad that it comes with is slippery as hell. Wasn't an issue for me when i bought it but now that my bench numbers are getting higher i feel like i need more stickiness to keep me planted. Hybrid pad is the next purchase when it comes back in stock. The Super Bench is higher then the Pro version when in the flat bench position do to the different shape of the adjustment bar. Keep that in mind if you want to get the OG version to save some cash. Also put some loctite on the bolts that attach the bench to the pad. Mine backed out but this was years down the road.

One of the most helpful comments so thanks! I had hoped to use the pull up attachment for band work or lat pull downs with a Amazon style cable pulley. Glad to hear it's taken some weight and adding weight to the legs helps with this. How do you find storing the pull up bar in an apartment? It looks quite bulky and wondered if it would take up too much room. Thanks again

I ended up buying one last week. So far I'm impressed with it. I thought it might be kind of gimimicky, but after decades of using ladder-style benches this thing is a lot more solid than I'm used to. The seat is too low when the back is upright and it's not the most comfortable but it does hold me securely and in more postions, like chest supported rows, than my previous benches so that's an acceptable tradeoff for me. Loving being able to do things like incline situps and nordic curls. It's also easy to move and use, which is important since the whole family uses it. And I like that it's made in Taiwan instead of China. There is room for improvement considering what it now costs but overall I love it.
@joshwoods

@@joshwoods I use the decline attachment like this guy does here, only I don't bounce up and down: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eNWYqquW2ZvNgH0.html I haven't used a dedicated Nordic bench but I would imagine the Ironmaster isn't as good. I do really like the bench for the variety it adds, but if you don't need the versatility I think something like the AB-4100 would be a better choice.

@plmn93
@plmn93 2 жыл бұрын
@@joshwoods The main tradeoff for the versatility is the incline seat. It's low to the ground when the bench is at 85 degrees and has a little bounce to it when lifting moderately heavy. It's also a bit awkward at some angles, but it does hold you securely so it hasn't been a big deal for me.

I have the OG Ironmaster super bench. The leg extension I use weekly, the bench used to only be $250 and less than $100 for the leg extension a few years back! I have the decline and dip attachments too. The bench itself isn't the greatest vinyl for benching but it gets the job done.

Ideal if you don't have a lot of space to workout and if you like small angle adjustments. Got mine a year ago and the only complaint I can think of is that he is a bit narrow but the lenght is perfectly fine. Good product.
@sl1237
@sl1237 2 жыл бұрын
Mine had a tiny bit of wobble (nothing like yours though) but I fixed that by tightening the bolts (especially at the pivot) just slightly. It's now rock solid without any wobble at all.
@plmn93
@plmn93 2 жыл бұрын
I've found my pivot has been loosening a bit every couple of weeks. Probably from doing incline situps. I may try some Loctite or get a longer bolt that I can put a second lock down nut on. Even when it it a bit loose it is still more stable than my previous ladder style racks, so not a huge deal, just an annoyance.

This is the best review I've seen on this. You hit all the major pros and cons in a fair way. I'd probably prefer the Rogue but with only room for one bench and my wife and kids using it, this would just be a lot easier to use day in and day out. One note, according to Ironmaster the weight rating in flat is the same on either end so you don't need to turn it around for bench, and also should probably swap the feet so the narrow one is in front which is how they show it on their website.

Awesome video as always!! I've had this bench for almost 2 years now and it looks and performs like it did on day 1. I highly recommend the leg attachment, it was one of the main reasons I went with this bench because my gym is in such a small space in my house. Leg extensions and lying leg curls feel real good, not as good as a dedicated machine would be, but takes up a lot less space and gets the job done for sure! I would love for you to pick one up and give your opinion... One thing I noticed is that you have the wheels on the opposite side that I have mine. I looks like on the website its opposite what the pictures show as well. It does seem to allow your feet to be a little closer when benching so I may have to try that... Great video, thanks again!!
@GlucksGym

Man pointing that out really messed with my head for a minute. It looks like they swapped the wheels from being on the longer legs to the shorter legs. Or I can't read and never looked at the directions and built if the way I thought worked for me. Thanks for the support! I'll see what we can do about the extension especially since I'm fairly certain another FID bench I may or may not own is coming out with one as well.

Play around with them! It's all personal preference. In the office gym, and mine at home, we've put the wheels at the head of the bench to wheel into the rack (which is mostly the only time I've used the wheels).

I put my Rep AB-5000 up for sale. Purchased a Ironmaster Super bench again. Low incline and high decline angles on Ironmaster bench are much better for complete chest development. Thanks for the great detailed review. In my search for the perfect adjustable bench, I strongly considered this one but ultimately I just love the aesthetics of the rogue/rep style. If you're up to review another bench, I highly recommend trying out the getrxd fidab-2. It is most likely my top choice currently because it is an fid bench with overbuilt rogue 3.0 aesthetics. Do you think this bench will work if I only have about 5" in front of rack to do incline? Thinking about getting rhino with built in 24" rack..but if I wanna do incline the rhino platform will get in the way since there is only about 4 to 5" of space from platform to front uprights...and same with the 4 post rep fitness with ares. Iam talking about lifting outside of rack. Somebody suggested to get the hoist 5167 bench which will work in very tight spaces do to the way it inclines and declines kindda like ironmaster

I own the original super bench, and have for about 11 years. I originally purchased it because it was the smallest (shortest) bench available, and my home gym was in an apartment. I needed every inch (enter Cluck joke here) I'm very glad I purchased this! Now my home gym is 900 square feet, with about 35k in equipment, and I still find myself using that super bench at least once in every workout. I love my Rogue 2.0, but it's nice having a bench that weighs a fraction, and the attachments are legit. I still use the leg extension, decline and dumbbell stands. I don't think I'll ever get rid of this bench. I appreciate you reviewing this because it is a real contender and a serious piece of fitness equipment. In fact, having this bench stand the test of time, makes me realize how comically overbuilt all my Rogue equipment is.... I'm 5'9" and 170 and have never had an issue with the comfort of the seat, btw. YMMV

My current idea is to get this bench and fit it with a Thompson Fat Pad to use for flat benching, decline/ab work, get the hyper extension and leg extension/curl attachment as well since I don't have space for stand alone options for those... And then just a separate adjustable bench for all dumbbell work and incline benching as this bench wouldn't be good for incline anymore as I doubt the seat is compatible with a fat pad. Not sure if that's a good idea or a terrible idea but that's where I've been leaning for a couple of months now.

If the Rep AB-5000 had the leg attachment from the ironmaster super bench, it would be a perfect combination. The Ironmaster Super Bench Pro is the more versatile design. However, cutting the height down to 17 inches and taking away the third seat height adjustment was a HUGE mistake. Anyone 6ft and up will have a hard time using this bench for incline pressing due to the seat height being so low. They redesigned their back pad with their hybrid option. But foolishly, they did not redesign their seat pad. It is the Achilles Heel of this bench. The seat is too small and uncomfortable for heavy presses or prolonged use. It is by far the best adjustable bench for decline presses due to the superior leg attachment. But ironically, it is the one of the worst adjustable bench for high incline pressing due to the under sized seat. I' stick to low incline presses which do not need tbe seat at all.

@GlucksGym 2 жыл бұрын
Funny you say those things because I'm fairly certain rep is going to make a leg attachment, I saw a leaked CAD design and Ironmaster is supposed to do something about the seat and those exact issues... So... That'll make things interesting.

@@GlucksGym Yes I'm passionate about home fitness equipment. So I notice any design flaws quickly when I receive new equipment. And thanks for the information. Thing will really get interesting if both of those updates come out. Not sure if I will keep my Rep bench or come back home to the Ironmaster.

@@GlucksGym I think one of Ironmaster's issues is that they use the same seat for the original and Pro, and the Pro and hybrid pads are thinner, which makes for a bigger gap.

@@GlucksGym I wouldn't count on Ironmaster to make an update. Maybe a new accessory, but they don't do many updates. I guess a new seat that is taller and closer the pad would be possible.

Ignoring the wider bench pad is a fatal flaw for this review. It is definitely way better than the shipped pad.
@GlucksGym
@GlucksGym 2 жыл бұрын
Except the review talks about the wider pad and it also brings the cost closer to $500 which is bringing this into a higher range of products. If I bought that someone else would complain I missed the next addition so we gotta be as thorough as possible but aren't going to cover every single option.
