This has been happening to me recently. When I first started low carb(2years ago) my blood sugar would go up before I woke up( dawn phenomenon) but recently my blood sugar goes up after I wake up. I'm not on insulin or diabetic. Guess I'll have to wake up and try eating something. I'll report back.

Yes , he’s helpful but needs to be woke. He needs to stop saying “men” and “women” because it’s highly offensive and hate speech. We don’t have that much difference. Moreover, it’s nothing more than a social construct. It’s more inclusive to refer to so-called women as birthing people or person with uterus. Thanks♥️

Would you please explain why intermittent fasting, say 16/8, would not make this morning glucose spike worse, unless you were in ketosis in the morning. Interestingly, one study showed that this time of the morning had the lowest probability of being in ketosis, while 10 pm and 3 am had the highest . So would the advise be to eat in the morning unless you are fat adapted? I find for myself, it is much more difficult to consistently lower my carbs enough to get into ketosis on a weight maintenance regimen. Also what is the minimum combo amount of fat, protein and carbs you would need to eat in the am to shut down the liver's production of glucose? For example, would one 80 cal mozzarella stick (6g fat,7g protein and < 1g carbs) be enough? Thanks for producing these videos and being willing to answer our questions.

@littlevoice_11
@littlevoice_11 2 жыл бұрын
A low carb shake can be great but the Atkins brand is not a great keto product due to the artificial sweeteners and highly refined oils. There are many better alternatives now which are keto/low carb and made from collagen, pea protein isolate, MCT, omega, fibre and even superfoods plus sweetened with a natural no sugar sweetener such as stevia or monk fruit

i'm not on insulin, I find that I can be anywhere from 70 to 110 fbs unless I went carb nutz the day before in which case fbs will be 120 or more, but assuming I start below 110, then it will go up to 120 and sit there until whatever I eat affects it and if I'm careful what I eat it will go back to 120 eventually. Am I correct in assuming that's reasonably good? My doctor only really focuses on the A1C and I know he's pleased that I brought it from 9 to 5.5 in 2 months but I'm not always sure where the numbers should be, but somehow numbers above 150 emotionally bother me and below not so much. lol

That is without eating any breakfast. If I get up in the morning and check my blood sugar and it’s 95 or so and I eat an egg and some cheese, my blood sugar still spikes up to between 120 and 135 9 AM every morning. this is very frustrating. I’ve tried eating breakfast and a healthy snack every two hours and drinking water and my blood sugar is still spiking. And by the way, I’m eating zero carbs. Please help!

@@rcole1907 Your last meal can make all the difference like a protein shake with some berries or some nuts and cheese. After a while it should be stabilizing unless you are eating too many carbs or sugar. If you are on meds to control IR then it might take longer depending on how resistant you were before starting IF. Also your eating window may be too late. After many adjustments I found I had to stop eating between 3pm and 6pm. You likely need to switch some things up but give them time before trying something new.

I lowered my A1C by eating Fats, But now my Cholesterol is way high. What Fats will lower the Cholesterol?

Switch your doc. Thats what I did. Since I reduced my massive IR, my Cholesterol improved as well, but it took a while. I lost 20 Kilo in 1 year, cut Insulin shots in half, and I feel better than ever - just by - skipping almost all carbs and eating fats. I believe fatty fish like wild salmon etc. would be probably best for you, unfortunately a costly staple for most of us.

Same thing happened to me. Avacado and olive oil can lower ldl. I got off keto and am eating oatmeal for breakfast to lower ldl and total cholesterol. No doubt a1c will come in higher because of the oatmeal. Its one or the other not seems.

I am a type 2 diabetic. I am not on any medication. My doctor wants to see how I can maintain my A1C through diet and exercise. My last three A1C readings were 6.6 (04/21), 6.9 (01/20) and 6.5 (08/19). I check my blood sugar every morning. If I do it right after waking up, it's usually between 130 and 150. If I wait an hour or so, it's between 160 and 180. After a smart breakfast, my blood sugar will end up around 120 by lunch time, sometimes lower, occasionally as high as 140, but that's rare and was likely because of some extra carbs for breakfast. Would it be better to eat or go for a 20-30 min walk when I wake up? I use an app on my phone to record my blood sugar readings. My 90-day average is 153. Keep in mind that most of my readings are in the morning, i.e. wake up or right before breakfast, and maybe a reading before lunch half the time and one before dinner, even rarer still. I know my A1C should be below 6.0, but what is the level of risk for all of the diabetes-related complications, e.g. kidney function, eye problems, etc., when my A1C is between 6.0 and 7.0? I'm not trying to rationalize an A1C of 6.5, just wanting to know if I'm better off regulating it with or without medication.

@@pattibaileydesigns hi patti! omd = one meal a day. the attempt is to stretch out the fasting as long every day as possible to stress the system into lowering glucose intolerance. i'm very careful about what i eat at that meal though. only lean protein, and veg, and supplements. i'm thinking about adding an egg or something early in the morning with fat soluble vitamins (can only be absorbed with fat) as a modification. omd may not be for you if you have a social life, lol! under covid i do not. all i can offer is my experience. that's all i got, but i'm happy to share. feel free to reply with more questions.

With me, the only breakfast after getting up in the morning is, I usually take my blood pressure medication with a glass or orange juice along with the Slim Fast Keto "Fat Bomb" meal replacement protein whipped peanut butter chocolate bars on a daily basis. I seem to felt better. I'm not eating any traditional breakfast such as bacon & eggs & toasts or pancakes or waffles (personally I miss these). Thanks, Doc.

Orange juice or any fruit juice is loaded with fruit sugar, aka fructose. Fructose is the worst sugar for diabetics....you should rethink drinking orange juice.

This is no joke, I have a unique situation in that I have no pituitary gland anymore, it was radiated from treatment I had to remove a very large brain tumor. This left me taking all the hormones that are produced from the pituitary gland in pills one of them is hydrocortisone. So, in the beginning my doctors told me that I must take this medication every day and if I didnt I would die in a week or so and the dose was 20mg in the AM and 10 in PM, ok, so I did, for the next 15 years and subsequently developed type 2 diabetes and struggled with it for at least another decade. Then I discovered after much struggle and experimentation that the dose I was told to take or I would die was way too much and that only half of that was necessary unless I was under stress. BANG, all of a sudden my blood sugar dropped like a stone and I was able to manage it further with diet. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out where these carbs were coming from causing my blood sugar to spike, FFS. Now it's easy for me, I don't produce cortisone on my own so I can control it, but people with an intact pituitary gland must do things like Yoga and meditation to help use biofeedback to control cortisone.

Far be it from me to disagree with an endo! But I've found 'good' cereal (low GI, complex carbs etc.) really helps with control. Weetabix is one of them. Shreddies (yes, lots of malt, but still I've found to be beneficial for control). Maybe that's me, though... I cannot function without cereal in the morning...!

Please stop saying men and women because it’s highly offensive and hate speech. We don’t have that much difference. Moreover, it’s nothing more than a social construct. It’s more inclusive to refer to so-called women as birthing people or person with uterus. Thanks♥️

I can't take the metformin it reacts badly with me. I was on Januvia and didn't have any trouble with it but the doctor said it wasn't working so switched me to metformin. I am not taking anything now and have to go for another fasting sugar test with that awful drink before he prescribes something else. I'm sensitive to the blood pressure medications and am on the mildest one they make.. for some reason the others made me cough. I'm hypothyroid so its complicated by that I think. This is all new to me and you are a great help. I've been able to get my mothers sugar down and she has lost a bit of weight.. she won't eat the quinoa lol. I don't test my sugar, was not told to get a kit - this has confused me. Should I just buy one on my own and check my sugar myself while the doctor does his testing and figures out treatment? How important is testing sugar levels when first diagnosed with type 2?

If you don’t mind saying what was your reaction to the metformin? I would definitely get a meter if you can afford it. Strips are pretty pricey without insurance covering it though. Unfortunately doctors won’t prescribe it unless your taking insulin. It will let you get an idea about what foods/meals your eating is doing to your levels. Test 1 hour and then 2 hours after you eat. There’s some apps to help easily record and keep a log.
