In this video, Professor John Ahr of the Online Jewelry Academy demonstrates how to successfully glue a pearl to your jewelry project.
There are many differences between the various glues that are available for the purpose of chemically bonding one material to another. Many of the glue formulas available are simply not suitable for glueing pearls. Before you attach pearls to your jewelry project you should watch this video.

I use the same jewellers glue and I've not had any problems. I have also used the Gorilla super glue with success. I usually leave the piece 24 hours to dry, probably over-kill but never mind. I like the fine nozzle but one problem with that is it has a mind of its own: I've yet to figure out have to staunch the flow of glue from the nozzle before replacing the pin cap. I'm sure someone out there knows how do that and I be grateful if anyone can let me in on the secret! Keep up the good work: I'm learning a lot of great stuff.

Good advice, on E6000; that stuff almost made me pass out. I won't use it if I can help it. Question - would Weldbond be viable? it IS a white glue, but once dry, weatherproof. I've used it on bonding cabochons to bezels with good success... bonding kumihimo to endcaps with mixed results. But I'm allergic to cyanoacrylate adhesives, so I try to use Weldbond where I can.
@OnlineJewelryAcademy
@OnlineJewelryAcademy 8 жыл бұрын
+Jillbles Honestly, I've never used Weldbond with my jewelry projects. It seems like it should work. But, I'd hate for you to use it and potentially loose a pearl. Maybe you should try an experiment to see if it produces a good result for you. Thanks for your comment. And, thanks for your support of the OJA! : )

this is great! what about glueing metal to metal? silver to say stainless steel or to silver?
@OnlineJewelryAcademy
@OnlineJewelryAcademy 5 жыл бұрын
There are many adhesives available that will glue metals. To pick one, you need to identify a number of variables. For example: Does the color have to match the metal? Will the piece be exposed to water? How much stress will the piece have to take on a regular basis? What temperature range will the piece be subjected to? I'm sure you get the idea. But, figure out what you need the glue to do. Then check the specifications for the various adhesives to see which one matches your needs. Good luck with your project. Thanks for your support! : )

Such a great video! You are an amazing teacher. Hence, I have a question. I'm planning to start my own jewelry business at home. I have designed some earrings with half drilled natural beads. The Web page of my provider states "Hole: 1 mm" on the gemstone, while the pin of the the earring hook is"0.7 mm". Shall it work? or should I look for another earring hook? 0.7mm is about the diameter of the pin or is it about the width? Thank you very much in advance for your kind response.

would you use e600 to glue a rose cut diamond to wood?
@OnlineJewelryAcademy
@OnlineJewelryAcademy 4 жыл бұрын
No. I would use a precious metal setting to hold the diamond. And, I would figure out a way to anchor the set diamond onto the wood. For example, I might solder a wire to the back of the setting. Then, I'd push the wire through a hole in the wood and curl a loop on the other side of the wood to hold the setting in place. In short, there are lots of ways to secure your stone to wood. You just need to come up with a solution that doesn't rely entirely on glue to do the job.

I am needing to know how to drill a hole in my pearl to set in a ring!
@OnlineJewelryAcademy
@OnlineJewelryAcademy 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Chelsea, All you need to safely drill a pearl are sharp drill bits, a way to secure the pearl, a Sharpie pen, and a caliper. Measure the pearl's height and deduct approximately 2mm on your caliper. Then, transfer the measurement to the tip of the drill bit by marking it with your Sharpie. Once you've secured the pearl so it doesn't move, you can safely drill the pearl. They're very soft. So, don't push too hard.
