Can’t wait to see what the 781 heads make. I’ve seen some ported peanut port heads make 500hp. But with today’s heads it’s an easy just to upgrade to a set of aftermarket heads. Cause no one is selling used parts for cheap anymore.

Interesting results. I'm sure that you are aware of the 454 GM used to offer with that cam and "GM" aluminum heads (edelbrock) It was 469 HP with 9.6:1 CR I put together an engine for my folks 72 El Camino consisting of: ATK .040" over Gen V 454, Lunati retro fit hyd roller lifters, AFR 265s @ 106cc - fully CNC ported, THe ZZ502 H.O. cam, Edelbrock Torker II, Holley Sniper EFI. I told them that it likely won't be much more than 500HP at the crank. I measured everything and got 10.4:1 SCR for their engine. Not going to lie - this gives me hope that it might be closer to 540-550 HP. Waiting on a few small parts, then it will be time to fire it up and start tuning.

I don't think that's correct. They never use that cam in 454,, That z z 454 you're talking about,, They have the little cam in it, I could be wrong and I am occasionally wrong but research it.And I think you'll see what i'm talking about.

Those are really good numbers! Of couse those afr heads are not cheap. The next step would be to zero deck the block and get a slightly larger cam with around 230 deg duration and .600 lift. That will bring you in the 600 to 625 hp range. Let us know what happens with the factory heads.

this is great. I always like seeing what the AFR 265's do. they are great heads for a 454. seeing how 781's compare to the 265's is something I've wanted to see also. do your 781's have the factory valves or larger ones? comparing your 265 afr test to Richard's gen 6 454 test the afr 265's had a 1000 rpm gain of where peak power was made at. I know its not an apples to apples test, but it is pretty close to the same duration, so its at least an idea of what they gain over the vortec heads. looking forward to the 781 test. are you gonna be doing any dyno testing with ported peanut port heads?

Impressive. I made a comment a while back about an 87 octane test for a street car. The compression could be low enough that a little less timing this motor could still be a very fun street motor, and I could run 87 ethanol free. I would think the newer chamber would be more detonation resistant than an old casting.

-@@dzperformance7360 The phrasing of making a comment a while back could come across as being a PITA but intent was that I follow and I can't remember screenames on these comments sections, like the old forum days. I found your feed a while ago searching for 434 strokers. I like what you are doing with more budget stuff. 496s and 540s are cool but really for those of us on a budget that want to have a fun stick shift street tire car that sees the track once or twice a year, it is over powered and possibly over budget. An iron head 496 maybe built cheeper, but an aluminum head 454 with some RPM more fun. As someone that has built heads and cam LT1s(of the 90s variety)/LS1s this is a doable combo which I have had interest in. Heads and cam are a big part in making power and as someone that like handling less weight of the aluminum heads is a perk. So you're building the kind of stuff I like. Just a few ideas from stuff kicking around in my head. I've had issues with 93 pump carb stuff after sitting, my 87 ethanol free burning 250 6 banger has been great once I made the switch for ethanol free.
