The problem with Hydrogen is, you can't pipe it around and store it. The Hydrogen dissolves in the steel.... That's a real bad thing. So, infrastructure would produce on site from Natural Gas (CH4). They pop off the Hydrogens and collect the carbon.
@reekinronald6776
@reekinronald6776 Ай бұрын
However, all these ideas are dead on arrival. You still need the energy to charge the batteries and manufacture the hydrogen. The notion that enough reliable energy can be generated by wind and solar for EVERYTHING is just nuts. The only option that can satisfy the need for cheap energy and also be "green" is Nuclear Power and the Greenies and the Politicians ain't going to touch it. Unfortunately, our leaders are going to push this until our society collapses....then everyone will discover "Jesus" and figure out wind and solar was pure insanity.

I worked at GM in 2006 on the new Hydrogen engine! It was very complex because this new engine required 4 valves per cylinder, 3 cams and the engine was expensive. Now in this engine we tried to convert Water into Hydrogen! I believe with hydrogen stations we can get a more affordable engine without all the conversion valves!!!!!

H2 as a fuel is a total waste of a very expensive material. However there are ICE designed for H2 burning. H2 burns at a very high temperature, So in an ICE the furl to air ratio is 1:40. The excess air id needed to cool the temperature of combustion. The alloys in the motor are spaecial in order to resist the heat, lubrication is an issue, and maintenance will be very expensive for the motor parts. The motor weights a lot more than a regular ICE so it is a lot more costly. The exhaust gases (water vaopr) is not what they make people to believe. The higher temperature of combustion generates many times more NOx with cause cancer in humans. Catatlitics will be larger and more expensive.

Manufacturing hydrogen on industrial scale currently requires massive amounts of energy and the cracking of hydrocarbons. See a problem anyone? How about extremely high pressure vessels situated in a vehicle speeding down the highway. See a problem anyone ? Infrastructure ? See a problem anyone? Transport is not the area to solve global warming. Focus on the power grid and energy creation which is by far the greatest polluter. Mini nuclear is the answer. This therefore creates a greener infrastructure environment for electric vehicles using much safer batteries such as sodium types. Currently the tail wags the dog in planning. The government can then keep all the hydrocarbons for themselves, their trucks, tanks and planes to defend your right to not educate yourself. Thanks Scotty. One of the best car shows on the net.

Mini nuclear sounded very promising to me until... There was a project for a mini nuclear plant. Its cost went up for double the original a ount, double the time, and HALF of the reqactors. Yes nuclear is very stable as a power source. Only the renewables are a very attractive option. Less permits, they are constructed in about six months instad of years, very low maintenance, and can be installed on a mini grid scale very close to the comunity they serve. That reduces trannsmission loses and local polution.

Advantages of hydrogen are rapid refuel and clean, even if used in ICE vehicles. As stated, this would require some development of infrastructure. This will enable solar wind and hydropower to store energy as hydrogen which can be used when there is no wind or sun or water flow

1. H2 Fuel cells need replacement. They give the car free, as a replacement FC cost $50,000, and last for only 50,000 miles That is the reason people who bouth H2FC cars sell then almost free after 3 years. The "free" H2 ends at thatbmilleqage too 2. H2 cost about 3X the cost of gasoline. 3. H2 FC has an eff of 75% but the efficiency from water to H2 to electricity to motors drop the overal efficiency to just 40%. The efficiency of an EV from well to power station to charging gets it down to 78%, however with a solar system installed (clean energy)efficiency of 90%+ is achieved. 4. If you store energy (like all renewables will do) you are limited by your battery storage capacity. It makes a lot of sense to charge ev batteries (battery to battery) at 78% eff than to make H2. at 40% 5. Underground. If one module fails the fire does not spread to othe storage cells in the park. H2 storage has its own problems. It is safer to store electricity in anenergy storage park

Most all processes and devices have an energy efficiency rating. It's impossible not to waste energy by converting from hydro to hydrogen, then back to electricity again in the car. BEV's are the best, they will win because of the cost, which has dropped to the point where Tesla's are cheaper than the average ICE vehicle today.

I would be very surprised if the patent for a safe and reliable electrolysis to obtain and deliver HH into standard heads already exist and is plenty viable. But then that would cause the price of water to sky rocket, the EPA would use it as excuse to really drive some bails in the coffin of the American Survival Dream, and then the cost of dehumidifiers would skyrocket, etc, etc, etc.

Well, transporting and making hydrogen doesn’t make sense compared to gas or electricity. Just too inefficient. Even storing it consumes energy and the storage is costly. Will be a niche market only for some use cases, like maybe transporting natural gas from the source where hydrogen can also be made? Talked to a Toyota guy one time, they lost a lot of money per Mirai, but made them back in government money

GM should concentrate on building really long extension cords (LOL)! I do agree with Hydrogen fuel production and fuelcell research and development. This is a sustainable resource, can be liquefied and distributed similar to the way Propane currently is, and the enduser vehicle uses a standard internal combustion engine with minimal modification. The waste product of combustion is WATER, (H2O). HYDROGEN is very much more volatile , thus more dangerous than gasoline or Propane. We, I believe, have or are close to developing sufficient technology to be able to use it safely.
