Thanks, Tasia. tip 1 when you have an email open press L to quickly assign, create, or manage labels. tip 2 - add a * to the beginning of the label name so it always shows up at the top of the label list.

i like to set up a whole subcategory so if I have a label for READING I'll have subcaategories for Magazines or book recs within that Parent label all in the same colour too. Helps keep me organized.

I use filters to label newsletters and my kids school emails so they don't clutter my inbox. I also use filters and labels to mark different types of attachments to be able to easily search them later if needed.

Hi, Tasia I currently have a label for a person and I would like to store it as well as any incoming email after I've read it. Basically would not like the (read) email from this person to continue to show in the inbox but only under the Label for storage. I'm sure it's an easy fix but don't want to mess it Up. Thanks Yo

How is spam making it past filters I have already in place? I have one filter that filters "To Unsubscribe" But I notice (and this may sound weird but the font size seems to be dependent. Most if not all spam has a "unsubscribe" option but you really have to dig for it. Any advice? Thanks from Louisiana.

I accidentally gave out my personal email to my employer and now they keep sending work stuff to it, however I don't want to mute it or delete it, but then again I don't want to look at it either, now with the filter option, I can satisfy all of those needs. Thank you so much.

Hello Tasia, How to forward all my incoming emails messages under a particular label in Gmail to another person email address? for example have label Name "car" and I get a new inbox name "supercar" I have to move that "supercar" inbox to the "Car" label name. I would want that automatically send over to that person email address. You think that could be done? Please need help and thank you.

I have a question, Tasia. How do you create a filter to put unwanted emails into Spam? Google may flag some emails from a source as Spam, but other emails from the same source will land in the Inbox. I want to make sure unwanted emails get into Spam. Thanks in advance.

Hello Tasia, please help… my filtered emails show up in my Sent Folder with empty content and weird email addresses That has cluttered my Sent folder to the point that my sent items are lost in the clutter…. I would appreciate if you guide me how to remedy the situation I have tried numerous ways plus asked google(said answer is blocked), KZfaqd and at this point I am helpless. Counting on you and your guidance…thx

I did this when I saw your video 2 yrs ago but for some reason filters are not working. All the wrong emails are going into the wrong labels. I looked at my filters in settings and as I can see everything is correct so no idea what to do now. About ready just delete them all and go back to how it originally was.

So, my problem is email from a source always has been sent to "promotions" not inbox. I've created a filter with a label with name of source. Now I'm trying "never send to spam" but am uncertain that incoming from this source will end up in in-box, as I desire. More than likely, it will end up under my label. I wonder if I'll see it or be alerted to it. Thx for help.

If the email arrives in your promotions tab again, you can move it to inbox. Gmail will eventually get the hint that you want emails from that sender to your inbox. Also make sure with the label you set that you don't have it set to skip the inbox. Hope that helps!

What would cause the "also apply filter to matching conversations" not to show the number of matching conversations? A few labels I created show the number, but around 80% did not. I'm using a full email address in the From field. This is a big issue if the number doesn't show, then the existing messages will NOT be moved out of the Inbox, which defeats the whole purpose.

UPDATE: It appears if you change the default "Search" from "All Mail" to "Inbox" that is what prevents the count from displaying and existing messages from being moved out of the inbox. This doesn't make sense to me since the Filters I created had no existing labels or filters, therefore they were in the Inbox. UPDATE 2: I'm getting inconsistent results. Before posting my first update I played around with the setting for one filter and was able to trigger and not trigger the count from showing. I just tried a new filter for another email address and now the count doesn't show up.

Well... really hoping for not a "short" but more extensive instruction on MULTIPLE fields and MULTIPLE search terms, for example in the "has the words"....... like, 1) how to search contains ALL search terms, vs ANY search terms.... can you help? Another example, if you have filter criteria in MORE THAN ONE FIELD, do ALL these search terms have to be in the email to be selected OR will ANY of these terms found select or FILTER these messages? Thank you!

You're using the Google Gmail website. 2. You're using the Google Chrome web browser. 3. Gmail will look different in other web browsers and the user might not get all the functionality of the Gmail website. 4. You're viewing the Gmail website in desktop mode. B. Ms. Tasia a lot of tutorials fail to mention the following information listed below. 1. Are are the instructions for the Gmail mobile app? 2. Are the instructions for Gmail in a web browser with the desktop website? 3. Are the instructions for Gmail in a web browser with the mobile website? C. Ms. Tasia your instructions help me to solve my problem only by me trying to match the screenshots you had on screen. I used different web browsers in different modes to try to find a match. D. Ms. Tasia that's why I suggested to you in comment A to mention those items at the beginning of your video. So the viewer will not get confused. Not all of your viewers would have done what I did by trying to match your your screenshots by using different web browsers. E. Too many sidetracks Tasia(?). Create one filter and use it: that's what we want. Trim the fluff, imo. And you didn't explain this 'archive' option. When I see 'archive' I see a lot of stuff thrown into a box that's then dragged up to the attic and pushed into a corner. That stuff's archived. What do you/Gmail mean by 'bypass', 'archive', 'hide'? Gmail is a really different creature, or it's not. Does it substitute labels for folders. if not, how do we use labels/filters to discriminate between messages; how do we view them? It's a riddle in a mystery, and you have the chance to explain it all - we're not in Outlook any more, it seems - but you haven't done so yet. Pity. It's too clever for its own good, this Gmail, imho.

I don't work in an office I'm just a homeowner this is what they call information overload why can't they make the damn thing simple everything's got to be so damn hard I guess if you have a business or if you're in an office it should be great but I want to make the juice simple as possible I got a headache watching this thing
