For all of the people, including this presenter, who insist that Harry and Meghan did not have to ask the Queen's permission to use the name Lilibet, I would remind them that it is a matter of common courtesy and manners. The fact that they presumed they could use this intimate nickname, one that the Queen had specifically said she did not want the family to use after Philip's death, makes one question their motives. Are they doing it out of vengeance, out of a desire to co-opt the charm and aura of Elizabeth II, out of a quest for control? All of these scenarios seem possible. It never once occurred to me that they were doing it to honor the Queen. If they had wanted to honor her they would have named the baby Elizabeth. Of course they have never shown any taste or discretion in anything, so why begin with this?

Why would they watch the Crown when they lived the real deal. The Queens nickname was given to her by her father when she was a child,what kind of person steals a beloved nickname for PR purposes because thats what it was.If they wanted to name their daughter after the Queen they would have chosen Elizabeth.

Once more for the bitter throng, Harry & Meghan NEVER accused the Queen of being racist & NEVER insulted her either. Over & over & over H&M spoke about how much they respected and loved the Queen & Philip. By contrast, Charles, for years through his official biographer, spoke disparagingly about his parents. All the things about the Queen being cold and unfeeling and Philip being too tough came from Charles.

It's one thing to choose a name - but let's remember these two went and trademarked this particular name, even before their daughter's birth - so I would think in the future they might use it. It's a decent explanation why The Queen was angry - it wasn't the name, it was them saying they 'asked her permission'.

Who's Yoko Soho prince harry is married to meghan markle and they have 2 children prince archie and princess lilibet which if the queen had any problem with would of told them stright away and made them change it the royal family never intended to welcome meghan in to the family they never wanted harry to get married they wanted him to be always single and following William and Kate around like a third wheel for the rest of his life they didn't want any wife of Harry's to take the media attention away from William and Kate so harry gave up he wanted a happy married life with the woman he loves so he said his goodbyes and left and after leaving and free to stop following the royal family's strict rules he wrote all his feelings and everything that has been on his mind for ages in to his book wheather everything in book is true or not is a different matter but he definitely used the book to get all the feelings that he's been forced to hide out in the open and probably breathe a sigh of relief afterwards knowing he got all his feelings out and got his side of the story out and can now close that chapter of his life and move on with meghan

@@heatherlingard9444 Strangely neither Archie or Lilibet's birth certificates are available though by law both in the UK and in the US they should be. William and Catherine would never have wanted Harry to play gooseberry permanently, I don't think they liked Meghan, but would have been pleased to see Harry happily married. The strict rules were Harry's grandmothers rules and are not followed now, Catherine has much more freedom with her family and choices. Harry could have told his family his frustrations and feelings he did not have to attack them so publicly or viciously as he did, the result of which is that he has probably lost them or at the very least they will never trust him again. Harry now has no choice but to be happy with Meghan because while she has gained everything - British titles, children, lavish lifestyle, celebrity, etc. - Harry has lost so much - family, friends, respect, security and lifestyle paid for, military patronages and so much more. If they were to part Meghan would probably soon find a rich replacement but what Harry would do is of concern.

I can believe they said, " We want to name this (still unseen,) baby after you." To which Her Majesty would have agreed, as her baptismal name is Elizabeth. NEVER would she have agreed to a pet name used only by immediate family. If, as is rumoured, they had already Trade- marked Lillibet months before, with an eye to future commercial use, that was the ultimate betrayal.

It’s fine if they had used just Lilli or Elizabeth but very odd MM usurped the entire private name. I think she did only because the Q wouldn’t allow them to use “Sussex Royal” months earlier.

I’m guessing she said that not when they told her they were naming their daughter Lilibet, but after she found out they had secured the website and had plans to monetize the name. (Probably as a blowback for the Queen shutting down Sussex Royal.) I can’t imagine what these two put the Queen through in her last years. Treasonous at some level, IMHO. (Ps… Lilibet is an online casino.. so the name is likely not available for the Sussexes to brand.)

I am not so sure about that. If you recall, after the birth of Harry’s daughter, the then Cambridges tweeted congratulations and specifically referred to her as Lily. I think this is a subtle clue as to what Harry told the Queen what they were going to call her when he asked permission to name her after the late Queen. I think the tweet of the then Cambridges on that day served a similar function to the “recollections may vary” position following the Oprah interview. Harry probably told her they would name her Lily Diana or Elizabeth Diana and use the diminutive of Lily. I think she was upset by both the bait and switch, and the copyrighting of her nickname. I am surprised journalists have not gone back to any royal twitter posts related to this birth.

She never said it. She made a snippy joke at a badly organised event to the person who was being paid and was stuffing it up. Harry had discussed the name for years, before Meghan. It's not a special name. Her grandfather called one of his horses Lillbet in 1931.

For those who are ignorant, this is the Royal Family we’re talking about, not an ordinary family. Even for an ordinary family, the choice of names must be respectful. For the Royal Family, they need to have the Queen’s approval for names of newborns, who would decide on how appropriate the names would be, the history etc and to be respectful. The dishonorable grandson claimed to have spoken to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, he could have tricked the Queen by telling her they wanted to name the daughter after her, in which case, one would assume it’s Elizabeth. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had every right to be angry, especially since she was asked to corroborate with the despicable duo’s lies. There was never any intention of honoring HMQE2 as the evil-minded duo’s desire was to spite her. Naming their daughter Elizabeth is one thing but using the late Queen’s very special pet name that only a few had the permission to use is downright cruel and disrespectful!!! The incorrigible and dishonorable duo only wanted to belittle the late Queen by being able to call out the name as and when they like. Or even to see which Lilibet would come running whenever they call.

After Prince Philip died, Queen Elizabeth told her lady in waiting that she never wanted to hear “that” name again; “that” name being Lilibet. So I truly doubt that she was pleased the child was named her private childhood nickname. As she also said (after the child’s name was announced) that she had very little that was truly hers, and that nickname has been one of those things & now they’d taken that from her as well. Doesn’t sound like she approved at all.

The author of the book has gone on the record that QE didn't mind H+M naming their daughter Lilibet. What upset the QE was HOW they handled it, they presented QE as having given her blessing, but they 'put words' in her mouth that she never said, which is what upset her, not that they named her Lilibet. I am not a fan of the couple but this is what the author has cleared up. Obviously, H+M caused QE emotional pain, and that is what is tragic.
