Warhammer Underworlds has a new season staring with GNARLWOOD. With not only Rivals decks for two new Warbands, the Sons of Velmorn and the Gnarlspirits, this box contains a reworked rulebook and two COMPLETE Universal Rivals decks that lean into the new NEMESIS deckbuilding system that will be the premier focus for Underworlds going forward. Can't wait to see some games play out. The idea of deck themes really is smart. It almost creates a 'choose your own depth", modular, quality to the experience, from what it seems.

You can play any cards in the Relic format and all the Warband specific cards are available to use as either Rivals decks or using the Nemesis format by combining them with a Universal Rivals deck.

So all I need to bring to the studio is my ironskulls models and character cards and we can play :) sweeeeet. I played in the before times (before COVID) at my LGS and really enjoyed it but during the pandemic I didn’t really have anyone to play with and it fell off my radar.

The rulebook for the last two boxes was already the finest rules book GW has ever done. The only rulebook that is probably better is the latest Warcry book. Both have it all; art, lore, layout, design, style, clarity, ease of reference. The only thing this new Gnarlwood book has is the "Advanced Rules" graphic that lets them skip printing a quick play rule pamphlet in the box. It's the same as the Harrowdeep and Nethermaze rulebooks books and GW sounds like they have convinced GMG into thinking its a complete rework, its not. The biggest rework is the increased price of course, and making their deck design work easier for themselves so they can pump out another 100 dollar box in another 6 months. I used to have steady players in my area and none of them show up anymore. This happened at the start of Harrowdeep and was due to the price hike. GW is killing this game and trying to drain as much money as they can while doing it.

I mean formatting something differently is a change and the new rules tor remove ‘feel bad’ interactions like not being able to move more than once or charging and being done for the turn are brand new mechanically for the edition. Delving for power cards and placing features after kills are relatively new concepts as well and universal rival decks and that Nemesis format are also new. It’s not a different game, but I’d certainly say it constitutes a new rulebook.

@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames Yeah they added delving power cards... I guess. Its still GW hyping a few small changes as titanic continent crushing innovation. Delving was in the last two boxes but they added this new change for getting extra power cards to reinforce the earlier power deck change where the power deck went from a 20 card limit to unlimited number of cards. Most veteran players in my area started dropping out around then, many citing this change, their argument was that it took the game from thoughtful and strategic to kitchen sink, I only get to play rarely now. At the time I felt the temptation to push back against their arguments and defend the change, but that would have been just fanboi garbage while ignoring the reality. I prefer reality even if it sucks.

@@breakupgoogle4584 have you ever considered the idea that maybe the reason why you don't like Warhammer anymore is because you just don't like it anymore? You only have so much time, maybe you'd be happier finding a new hobby you don't hate.

Hoping to get this soon. I haven't played underworlds before, but the way just this box is enough to start playing and those amazing minis have tempted me to jump in!
