Hikaru's recapping this game on the fly speaks volumes about how much better top GM's understand the game. The prediction at the end was insane too :)

not really, that was a rook ending which ofc grandmasters understand deeply especially the position at the end and you can clearly see Hikaru did make some mistakes here and have to look at the eval bar for hints

Actually Levy's choices gave white a few fits. Levy getting the initiative and keeping it as black was nice to see. And even though Hikaru would have played more accurately were he playing white in that rook and pawn game, that 'star' move by black was notable too. I usually watch Hikaru for his streaming and his own self recaps, but it was nice to watch this one.

which seems crazy to me because there are way less pieces to think about, surely thinking about all the pieces would be easier than mid-game where many pieces are active at the same time then I realize the "less pieces" applies to both side lol

Ive watched many of levy's tournaments and the h5 g5 idea is a shock. He usually plays defensive/passive. Nice to see him take those risks especially with a much higher rated opponent

I've been watching a LOT of his games lately, and Levy is getting VERY good at end games. He has an excellent understanding of how to close-out games, and for many players, myself included, the end-game is often where I struggle the most.

I love how Hikaru uses the computer to check his work. He is the best commentator because nobody can translate computer chess better. I think at the highest level they have to compete with computers because that's the only tool we humans have to keep score.

it's kinda crazy how the elo difference between levy and his opponent is smaller than the elo difference between hikaru and sosa. just goes to show that even as a GM, there are HUGE differences in level.
