This is a good example of the reason why cheating is so terrible for all forms of chess, and what we saw from Carlsen both in the Sinq cup against Niemann and in the Grand Swiss. If the worm starts to infest your brain that your opponent is cheating, it doesn't matter if he is or not - you can't possibly play at your full strength because part of your brain is doing circles around "is he cheating? I can't prove it. This move was weird. His timing is weird. This is all off" etc your mind is getting dragged away from its task of finding the best move and going through doubt, confusion, injustice, despair, suspicion, self criticism ("he's not cheating I'm just playing like garbage" is mixed up in there too) and it no longer matters if the opponent is cheating or not because you cannot play to your full strength while this is going on in your head. It's why stringent security measures in OTB tournaments are so important; if this thought spiral starts, your ability to play quality chess is in the toilet. You will never enter the zone. Organisers need to give the players the mental security that there is no way someone can cheat here, so that this thought loop doesn't consume them and they can just focus on playing good chess. Watching this happen to hikaru in real time is quite interesting (even if it sucks that this happened).

My take: Sacking the knight on move 3 was clearly a human move. Having won game 1, the cheater was openly announcing to Hikaru that he was cheating. He knew he was going to be banned of course, but the point of the exercise was to cheat his way to the top, and by beating Hikaru he had achieved his goal. Most likely someone who knows the game but isn't especially good.

I don't really understand cheating in any fair game competition. At the end of the day that's not you who receives the credit for the win but the one who helped you to go that far. In this way, the player who loses starts with a huge handicap at the beginning of the game. Cheaters are very dilusional and are at the bottom of human beings.

this "cheater" is probably like 1000 rated player or less. He probably doesn't even know Hikaru. He does not care about getting a chance to play "Hikaru." I actually engine checked the position. Hikaru was winning but he had to force exchanges from the get go breaking open the center before white castled and getting an Endgame a piece up with a more active king than white. He was kind of slow so white equalized. The tables turned towards the end when he offered the bishop exchange which was a blunder and become from 0.0, +6,4 because of the initiative and some weird tactics and other stockfish reasons. Edit: of course it is blitz so it is almost impossible to play so goot that fast. However if it was 15+10 format or longer time wise i think that position was winnable for Hikaru even against stockfish.
