Nice one but the theory is force opposite king away from pawn at the same time avoid continues checks to your king and job done, thanks.

1. Rf5 2. Rd5. There are a lot of weird variations in these positions. Causes me grief when I check it on the computer.

OK, but why is it called a bridge?
@jacobcarrizales427
@jacobcarrizales427 Ай бұрын
Probably due to just having a rook controlling the file. Another way to think about it is you build a bridge to let the pawn safely cross onto the promotion square. The name doesn’t really matter though.

At step 2, why not just rook to f8? Sac your rook and it's a winning queen - rook endgame.

Rf1, Rxf1, and you still have to move your king out of the way of the pawn. The moment you bring the king out, black checks you. You can't move away from the pawn, so you either move in front of it, in which case black keeps checking you into a draw, or you move in front of it, which allows black to move their own king toward the pawn and actually gives black a win.

@@-AxisA- Which step 2 1. Rf2+ Kg7 2. Rf8? Then it's auto stalemate after Kxf8

@@-AxisA- My bad! If you play Rf8 and black takes, then that's just stalemate...

I don't know what was I calculating when I made this comment:D Of course the king can't move and it's stalemate. I guess some how I thought the pawn could promote on next move.
