I don't know what's creepier. The map itself or the fact that by the end of it The Librarian has gone completely insane due to isolation. Spouting an enthusiastic, patriotic speech about conquering the world and building a new society to absolutely nobody at all. His voice echoing the empty streets of a collapsed city that's riddled with abandoned Combine technology and where the only living being is the strange alien fawner that's eating everything from the inside out.

About fifty minutes in, I started to get the feeling that "Librarian" is actually shorthand for "overthrown dictator longing for his former glory"

I love how it cut from you in the "throne room" from you walking into an elevator with a revolver, where you just start boogying. As if you just assassinated the local overseer and were celebrating in the elevator moments later

Bit of lore trivia for ya Librarian in regards to when you see the statue just outside the station and comment on it. Dr. Wallace Breen wasn't just the overseer of City 17, rather that was the central city where he watched and controlled over the entire planet with the aid of the Combine from. He wasn't just a city overseer. He was THE Overseer of Earth itself. Afterall, he was the one who negotiated with the Combine in order for them to not completely wipe out Humanity, in exchange for Humanity's freedom. Edit: Pretty sure at around 15 minutes into the video, that the area you go into there was an area Combine were working on decontaminating of Xen flora. Because pretty sure that a majority of the stuff, such as the yellow boxes and barrels, are all from Half Life Alyx if anything.

The way that Librarian switches from being weirdly serious to being comedic is perfect! In most cases I don't watch these episodes for the map reviews but rather to see what Librarian will do in the space he is given. The ending was probably the best part considering that Librarian went power crazy and started planning how he could be a leader in the world!

While you didn't find it on this map: while exploring City 24 months back I found a large open area filled with nothing but corpses: I assume it's probably where they dumped anyone they picked up on the streets and shot for dissidence. The space felt haunting in that hundreds were likely buried down there in eternal darkness, was somewhat hoping you'd find it on the map but there's always the chance of a second walk through maybe.

9:20 it’s a different type of ladder, most ladders are really just a tool texture in hammer that’s applied over the ladder model. In the Half Life branch of source there is also an entity that can be used also to mount/dismount ladders at a set point. Most Gmod maps don’t use this but a fair chunk of them do. All Hl2 maps have these ladders.

... Honestly. It's 2:34 AM. My neighbors are trying to sleep and the walls are thin. The ending was so genuinely good, funny, clever, and perfect, I had to stand up and applaud. Not only do you have my vote, Mister Librarian; But you have my soul.

Some of the other Cities in Half-Life 2 are never seen nor been showcased on the internet, but because of modding, thanks to people who make fanmade content. This one though has a more immersive design and it looks nicer

I think the reason as to why Wallace Breen has a statue within City 24, is due to how he was the "representative" for humanity towards the combine. His base of operations was located within city 17, as noted by NPCs conversing in the HL2 Intro: NPC #1: "Dr. Breen again? I thought I saw the last of him in city 14." NPC #2: "I wouldn't say that too loud... this is his base of operations." Just a small fun fact, I love HL2 lore.🧡

Doubt you'll see this, but if you do, I have a quick question: In fanart, do folks usually draw you as the Alan Wake model you use, or another sort of sona? Because knowing that would GREATLY increase my chances of actually doing that project haha.

One time I would like to see you explore these maps with someone, keeping a similar goal to just experience it with a smidge of company, maybe even only using proximity/radio to communicate :)

It's a nice map, but I feel like a lot of people overdo the combine, or maybe misunderstand the combine when they ham up the propaganda aesthetics. The combine aren't like Earth's historical ideologue dictators. They don't put up banners or slogans. They have a big TV screen where Breen can broadcast to people from, it's the bare minimum because why spend more effort on what is effectively cows. A slaughterhouse doesn't have tons of fancy flags and banners for the cows to look at to try and make them feel better. We don't care how the cows feel, because we think of ourselves as superior to them, we aren't worried about the cows rebelling because we don't think they're capable of it. We also don't see them as any kind of threat, even if they could. The way you put it at the start of the video, reminiscing about city 17 in half life 2 was perfect, the cattle analogy works so well. The combine see humans as just that. Nothing the combine integrate into the Earth has any consideration for humans, even devices like the ration dispensers are just simple alien machines. There's no slogans on them, no thought put toward making them look aesthetically pleasing, or even aesthetically intimidating, to the humans. They are completely indifferent. The combine just say "you get what you are given, and this is what we have for you. Deal with it.". They don't need to win hearts and minds. The people are miserable, and the combine don't care, they likely know they're miserable too. They just don't care what humans think or feel. They're just another tool, another resource to the combine. The flags, the statues, all that stuff, it looks nice but it just doesn't feel combine to me. They just let the world rot, the streets decay, and put up fences to keep people where they want them. They don't need nor want to impress upon anyone.

7:35 Granted, I don't think we know how things were going on in the other cities that remained on Earth. Makes me wonder if any other cities experienced a revolt or if they were entirely unknowing to the goings on in City 17 and the uprising going on there? It's an interesting thing to wonder and some fanmade mods have been made to address that but nothing official as far as I know. Who knows? Maybe there's cities where there's far more people loyal to the Combine and more peacefully complying with them than those that are actively resisting or secretly desiring to resist.

Another well detailed map. It looks like a map made by the devs themselves. Sucks, most of these cities were originally scrapped because of the leaks. If they ever release HL3, it would be really cool if you could travel to these cities. It also shows that even if Gordon and the rebels get City 17 back, how small they've contributed to beating the combine completely. It woud be really cool to see the other cultural architectures merged with the combine technology.

That mural at the beginning of the video is taken from a picture of The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs (where I'm from). Didn't expect to see that. ...after taking a second look it actually looks like a composite of a well known photo of The Broadmoor from the back side superimposed over Pikes Peak and surrounding mountains. That view of the mountains can only be seen from the front. Also the water is only on the back side.

Super nice, you should visit more HL2RP maps, many are well made and some are eh One thing I noticed however is you didn’t discover the announcement buttons, neither the Judgement Waver Alarm, would’ve changed the whole atmosphere from gloomy to panic

This map was well put together, I do wanna say also I've never mentioned it but I appreciate your hardcore dedication and continual praise for the source engine/gmod/half-life stuff. I myself never got into many valve games except my ridiculous 3000 hours on LFD2 haha and in my LONG time gaming, somewhere around 37 years I've few and far between had any fanaticism toward very many singular genre or games. I was hung up on Jak and daxter for awhile, always been a final fantasy fan but fairly casual, have played many franchises completely like gta/saints row/ assassin's creed and in the last 15 years played many MMOs but I can't say "I know this franchise inside and out" for much of anything so the in-depth info you bring to this map or that is interesting to me everytime.

Keep in mind that combine doors cannot be opened normally in these kind of maps. They would work for combine players only within the server. Use the sonic screwdriver mod to open these doors!

lights in abandoned structures being on are likely inspired by things like the soviet RTGs they used to power lights and beacons which are extremely dangerous. many of which were left abandoned when it fell.
