How cool that you still have your first car! Mine was a piece of junk, so I'm not heartbroken about not having it. :-) I agree with you about this music transcending time. I do not know when you lived in San Antonio, but the Hill Country is still beautiful, though disappearing ever so slowly as the population increases. This LP is among my YT favorites, so I'm still enjoying it. The Chevy is still in my garage awaiting me to finish the restoration....the transcending time, harking back,...so many people choose to invoke the pre-civil rights era and the associated implications. For me it's about remembering loved ones and attempting to empathize with living in the best parts of those days. If you saw the ending of "Avengers End Game" where Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter finally have their dance to "It's Been a Long Long Time", ...the director was attempting to create that moment for those of us who can feel. Those without empathy just can't get it. That all things were not equal then is certain, but it wasn't a nation of anger then and most families were together. Mostly,...I get to remember the childhood afternoons with my grandparents, when there was a stack of LPs on the record player making time stand still.

I personally don’t like that mantovani string sound. Much prefer this natural sounding strings...

I've been downloading albums from KZfaq, skimming off the audio track, and importing into iTunes. Granted, it's one giant file with no individual tracks and the sound quality may not be as good as the original tracks in full fidelity, but it works fine for me. It's certainly better than not being able to listen to the album at all. I could split the file into multiple tracks, but I'm too lazy to do the extra work. Just something for you to consider.
