I adore Roland Rat. David Claridge is an incredibly talented and gifted performer. I used to work in telly around the time this was broadcast. I had to book David Claridge for a link from LA as Roland for a show I was working on. When I spoke to him on the phone, he spoke as Roland. My inner eight-year-old has never been so happy!

Looking back, who would have thought it? To save TV AM's from being axed after embarrassing low ratings, they chucked a lot of money at the show. Once had the best TV personalities and presenters from across the land, including Michael Parkinson, David Frost, Robert Kee, Angela Rippon, Ann Ford and they even tried Rantzen, they used clever marketing organisations, intellectuals and academics on revamping the format of the show, well respected journalists, TV researchers, production managers/analysts, high profile newsreaders and then in the end, it took furry puppet with a strong cockney accent and a lanky eccentric man with glasses to save the show.
