Wow so cool... usually go instructionals are so long it is almost imposible to go through them in one sitting. This format is good because it has enough depth and is short enough to move on to other things.

in Windows 10.. Settings -> Ease of Access -> Audio -> and there you can enable Mono

Yugioh also. Try it. The best intelligence increasing game ever. Then comes Go. Then comes Civilization or Chess, I dunno. Probably Civilization though

Okay so that tip toward the end about knowing how far to extend based on the number of stones in a line, was the most indispensable pieces of very basic Go knowledge that has been missing for me this whole time. The main thing I struggle with playing the game is a sense of dimension and knowing what you can get away with. That tip slotted everything into place.

Just learning Go and just found this video. I do appreciate you fully explaining these terms in 100% English. Other videos like to explain things in English and throw in the more than occasional Japanese word, which really irks me. I want to learn Go, not learn Japanese. It is ok to have to learn the occasional Japanese term, but it is often a lot more than necessary.

"The ultimate goal is to win as much territory as we can." That is wrong. The goal is to win more territory than your opponent. Don't get greedy! Aside of that unluck wording this is an excellent video. Ty.

if you want to beat opponents even with a handicap, you need to be able get as much territory as possible.

Thanks for some very helpful ideas. :) I'm wondering how/if your choice between enclosing a corner or going for a side or attacking opponent's territory depends on how your opponent has placed their first stones, or if it is independent of your opponent's choices at this early stage.

Fun fact: When I play chess with my friends, we've also developed a piece that moves like the 'large knight'. The naming was difficult, but in the end we called it the shieldbearer

Thank you. Do you have any instructional videos about how to apply Joseki? I have studied Joseki in terms of local corners, but it would be nice to have a demonstration on how the moves are applied to the entire opening and board, and the philosophy behind the moves.

There's a lot of useful info here. Though I know the point of the video is apparently brevity, it would be nice to know why some of these ideas work instead of just the rigidity of right/wrong. For example, why can you do a 5 space extension if you blocked a kick and have 2 connected stones? What happens if the opponent comes into the middle? How do you respond to it?

As far as i know three space extension is the best thing one can do bc if u put a stone in the middle of it u can start creating two eyes which allows you to make an immortal group

With The 3 stones at the end could you make a large extension on the 4th line to play in the center of 3 stones? Or is it more important to establish 3rd line in our opponents side of the board still?

Old comment, but yes, Stephanie Yin is a 1p (1 dan professional) rank; any dan level is considered a master. She is also the founder and president of New York Institute of Go (NYIG), which this KZfaq channel belongs to.
