You know, I always suspected it, but this month has really confirmed for me that I'd listen to Lowart talk about literally anything. Even an old game I've never played and probably never will, lol.

There's a rom hack version of Super Mario Land 2 that is completely in color and it's really damn great. The colorized graphics really add to the aesthetics of the game.

It's not even that the gameboy is weaker hardware than the snes or nes, it's the fact they managed to keep creative visual while having only 4 monochrome shades to work with.

With the few amount of levels they could make for a GameBoy game, they took full advantage and made the most of it by making every level unique.

I would love to hear your thoughts and feelings on Wario Land, the sequel. It was my favourite gameboy game growing up. Honestly, it was probably the one I spent the most time with too haha. 💛💛 It features many of the elements you touch on in this video and I highly recommend it if you are a fan of SML 2. There is so much variety and personality in Wario Land!

The fact that every level in Mario Land 2 is different, seems to me like one of the most underappreciated aspects of the game, and I'm glad that this video emphasizes that. 3:59 I love when videos have a play on words with the footage. "Atmosphere" while in space.

I had no idea this game was so actually amazing. The moon gravity in Mario Odyssey was very cool and to think a GB game already did it before. The option to choose any world becomes a staple on 3D mario games in the future and this game already did it. This was ahead of its time.

I had that game when I was a child and, sadly, never beat Wario's castle

so happy someone acknowledged this game, it's honestly my favorite mario game of both his 2D and 3D adventures

People have said it, but you should definitely give the Wario Land series a look in a video, they're definitely some of the more unique platformers out there

The mario romhack scene is huge. Plenty of creativity there

Mario Land 2 manages to strike a pretty good balance between playing like a Mario game should, as well as being a little out there. Personally I think the original Mario Land is more intellectually interesting (I know this is a silly thing to say when talking about Mario games) to discuss. Because that game is so damn weird.

The only issue was it didn't have Mario Land 1's ending songs equal.

I think this gave me a headache, you ripped some long lost memories from the depths of my brain.

I used to think that the Game Boy games are just be watered down versions of the console games but no, they're still a lot of fun. I've been enjoying Oracle of Ages on my 3DS. I think I'll go pick this up.

My problem with the open level design is that, the levels are pretty easy.... And then Wario's Castle kicks the SHIT out of you with no preperation. I think what would be a better formula would be a semi open path. 3 worlds being open to the player. 3 more after you beat the previous 3. And perhaps 3 more? And FINALLY one final level to kick your ass.

Wario land 4 was great, never really got into the first 2 on gb

There are, however, two key flaws in this game which I will explain. The first is the music. It's rather unfortunate, but SML2's music is fairly repetitive, doing very little with the melody or introducing much in the way of different melodies in the game, whereas the previous game AND the one that followed did much better. Speaking of the game that came after, Wario! Why in the ever-loving goomba did they design him to have such a derp look about him in the game? I mean, seriously. Wario's personality as a sinister villain was established via the oft-repeated hypnotic commercial featuring the voice of said character. This bloated sack was a terrible design, and they did so much better in Wario Land. Honorable mentions regarding this game: It's still fun. I just never bought it. Plus, the villain from the *last* game - Tatanga - was in this one.

False; the most underappreciated Mario game is Super Mario Bros. Deluxe.
