Do you get to choose where you go? I was trying to figure out where the other locations are, but I couldn't find anything. I was wondering this to determine if it was possible to stay near a spouse's job, etc.

You can choose where you would like to go, but it is important to know that not all sites that are available would qualify. The following is a helpful website that can show you current job availabilities. Be sure to check out their HPSA score to ensure the site qualifies. connector.hrsa.gov/connector/search

I think they will look for consistency in your volunteering and community service. If you feel passionate about a project in your community, i would focus on growing that area.

Hi! I was curious what you meant when you said it would be your “regular job” so after serving 4 years to pay the tuition, i would need to work at the underserved area forever (getting paid)? Or could I work at another practice/create my own practice?

You would need to work in an underserved area for however long your committment is. So if the NHSC pays for 4 years of schooling, your repyament would be 4 years in an underserved area. If after those 4 years you wanted to work in a private practice, you could choose to do so.

Are you receive any income while working? Or is that the stipend you mentioned?

You receive a stipend as a student under the scholarship. When you finish your training and beginning your repayment, you would also receive income from working at the site you choose as it would be a regular job.

Don't you pay taxes on the benefit amount? Is it capped at 250k?

The NHSC is not subject to federal taxes. You will need to confirm if you need to pay any local or state taxes. You do pay taxes on your stipend

If I were to receive the scholarship and complete graduate school and have a job at an approved location, could I move locations to another approved site, or would I need to stay at the same site for the full time period that I would repay NHSC?

You can move sites! As long as that new site is an approved site/location, you shouldn't have an issue

It is similar! The difference is that the military (from my understanding) will choose your location where you be stationed. With the NHSC scholarship, you apply to the locations like a regular job

Hi, I am a current dental student and was wondering what things you think allow a person to stand out among the sea of applicants? I understand that they consider people with a more disadvantaged background but is that needed in order to get the scholarship? What about volunteering or previous work experience? Thank you!

I would say that they are likely looking for someone who has a committment to working in underserved communities. If you have volunteer experiences in these undereserved areas it will likely help!

Also another question if you just got accepted to school, do they need a transcript from your undergrad?

@@yasaminmehrazar163 They pay for your tuition. The scholarship does not have a cap. They have different program that is a loan repayment that is a little different. If you've just been accepted, they will ask for an undergrad transcript along with proof of acceptance.

It does have to be an accredited program in the US, DC, or US Territory

Im not quite sure about the NICU. I know that that the NHSC also has the Nurse Corps that nurses can apply for. bhw.hrsa.gov/funding/apply-loan-repayment/nurse-corps

wait i thought for each year they pay its double. so if they pay 4 years for med school you serve 4 years? or 8 years? Also do they determine what specialty you can be?

If they pay for 4 years of medical school your commitment after completing your residency would be a 4 year commitment. They have a certain specialties that they accept for medical students.
