There’s nothing special about Landslide - not sure why so many would want it. You may also want to check out the solo careers of Nicks, who was most successful in her own, but also Christine McVie who had a few hits of her own. I think the only thing Buckingham did that I enjoyed was Holiday Road used in the Vacation movie.

Gold Dust Woman is a must. After that, Rhiannon was a massive hit for them. Also, you should dip into the songs sung by Christy McVie. I'm Over My Head and You make Lovin' Fun are sharp, upbeat tunes which perfectly reflect McVie's unique style, definitely a change of pace from the heavier, deeper Stevie Nicks/Lindsey Buckingham stuff. And eventually, you must listen to a very early Fleetwood Mac song from their days with Bob Welch on vocals, called Hypnotized. Hypnotized has an incredible hook, and Bob brings a jazzy presentation to the song.

How about doing an "offshoot" of Fleetwood Mac-"Stop Draggin' My Heart Around"? This song was on Stevie Nicks' first solo album and reached number one. It is a duet with Tom Petty and was written by Tom Petty. Speaking of Tom Petty, why haven't you checked out Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers?
@TahoeNevada
@TahoeNevada 4 жыл бұрын
There’s a great documentary about Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, where Stevie Nicks told Tom she’d leave Fleetwood Mac in a second if they asked her to join the Heartbreakers. Tom said, “No chicks in The Heartbreakers.” Man... imaging if she joined The Heartbreakers!
@michaelbergman1708

The song was written by Tom Petty and Mike Campbell. I heard in an interview that his producers want to bring in a female vocalist and recommended Stevie Nicks. Tom Petty was not happy about it but relented. Personally, I think the duets (Tom Petty and Don Henley) are the weakest tracks from that album. Edge of Seventeen is a killer track that and should be covered.

You do know that Fleetwood Mac is named after the rhythm section of the band, right? Mick Fleetwood on drums and John McVie on bass. The only two members around since the band's inception and tons of lineup changes. Very solid and innovative. When you listen to all of the songs on 'Rumours' individually, you can pick out the stronger tracks from the weaker tracks. Not all are tens, but they are all nine point somethings. But when you listen to the album from start to finish, you come to realize that the whole is greater than the tunes by themselves. A very solid TEN of an album. Glad to see you two liking it so far.
@cazgerald9471
@cazgerald9471 4 жыл бұрын
That's true, but technically McVie was not in the band at its inception - Peter Green and Mick Fleetwood left John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers then named their new band Fleetwood Mac to entice John McVie to join. He was hesitant because the Bluesbreakers were a steady paying gig. Bassist Bob Brunning was recruited and played a few gigs before John McVie agreed to join.

Fleetwood Mac's self titled album from 1975 was almost as good as Rumours! It was on the top 10 of the Billboard album charts for months. The album was 7x platinum. I call it the preview album leading up to Rumours. "I'm So Afraid", "Monday Morning", "Blue Letter", "Rhiannon", "Landslide", and "Crystal" were the most memorable songs, but I'm telling you, there were no bad songs on this album as well. "Crystal" was originally on Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks debut album "Buckingham Nicks". "Buckingham Nicks" is an album you guys need to look into as well, but it's never been released on cd or iTunes, but you can find it on KZfaq.

Thanks for the fun guys. This is my first time commenting (because Fleetwood Mac is my favorite band of all time). The major thing about this band is that while each member is extremely talented on their own (one of the female singers, Stevie Nicks, was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame last year for her solo career) for some reason when these people get together they do something even more amazing than when they are separate. Here are two live concert clips you could/should watch and react to (along with a description why). Not That Funny [Live - 1982 Mirage] - You will not here this anywhere else than this video. They took the melody of one of their lesser known songs and put it on top of the instrumental track of another one of their lesser known songs to make a new version explosive song. In the middle of the song the drummer not only keeps time but does a 2 minute drum solo on top of keeping the time and just for good measure the drums, bass and guitar have a mini jam session during the song. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p8eDe5CFmLjVpHU.html Big Love [Live 1997 The Dance] - The guitarist finger picks very fast multiple melodic lines and bass while singing... just a man and his guitar in a legendary performance. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o8CKo5pnspqyd5c.html Feel free to double check with your regulars and they should back me up. The only thing better than listening to Fleetwood Mac is seeing them perform live.

I'm a guitarist and I love how detailed and in depth your analysis are of the music videos you react to. You understand music much better than most other reaction channels whose people appear to have no musical kowledge and just react to the music strictly by what they just listened to and heard. While that's great, to me it's more important to be able to break down the song and analyze each musicians contribution to the song. Like how you guys pick out the bass, drums, and guitars seperately and analysis their sounds and their importance to the song. Keep it up. You guys, rock...

As a longtime FM fan, I know that there are certain songs that are staples in their concert setlists. They always start with The Chain and they often finish with Tusk. Usually Rhiannon & Gold Dust Woman & Landslide are included too. If you want to see them perform, I **HIGHLY RECOMMEND** you watch The Dance, their reunion concert from 1997. As guitarists, I think you would VERY MUCH appreciate Lindsey’s acoustic version of Big Love. His finger picking style is unique from his early days playing banjo. If I could recommend one song, that would be it. Welcome to FM fandom guys 👍

In this particular case, while I agree the live version you refer to is great, Stevie's voice sounds better on the studio version (she was much younger!) and Lindsay's guitar playing is much cleaner. I actually found out about Stevie Nicks by hearing " Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" on the radio.Lost my mind. I went and got Bella Donna (her first solo album) immediately. I started telling my friends about this great new artist I'd " discovered".They looked at me like I was nuts.I honestly didn't know she was in Fleetwood Mac ! I was just young enough that I'd somehow missed the monolith that was Rumours.What a joy to hear that album for the first time ! I've loved them ever since.Cheers !

I remember seeing a Lindsey Buckingham interview, where he says he heard a DJ playing this song on the radio for the first time (as it was new), and after the song played, the DJ was like "Meh." So Lindsey called the radio station and asked the guy what he didn't like about the song. The DJ's complaint was that initially the song seemed to struggle to figure out where it was going. For me, that's the genius of the piece. It makes me think of the maneuvering you have to do when you're trying to get onto the highway. First you putz around the parking lot, work your way onto the feeder road, and once you get past the on-ramp, you floor it!

There's so much attention to detail in this song, and so many layers tastefully woven together, that it's easy to miss things. I love the drumming during the verses, when Mick Fleetwood does this syncopated thing where he accents the backbeat/offbeat. It's phenomenal!

FYI: You might be able to find clips on youtube of the dvd series called Classic Albums. They talk about the making of classic albums and for production nerds they sit at the mixing board and isolate the tracks so you can hear how things came together. It really shows how tight the players in Fleetwood Mac are.

A bit of trivia, the night Fleetwood Mac was inducted, Santana was also. Peter Green, the founder of Fleetwood Mac (originally named Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac featuring Jeremy Spencer) was part of their induction but did not play with the band - which makes sense since the songs that night were from the Buckingham-Nicks era. However, Green did join Santana on stage that night for the performance of Black Magic Woman which was originally a Fleetwood Mac song penned by Peter Green.

I love Fleetwood Mac. I wouldn't call many of their songs "bangers", though. The 2 you last listened to ("The Chain" and "Go Your Own Way") are about as high energy as Fleetwood Mac gets - at least in the Lindsey/Stevie era. "Landslide" is a very mellow ballad with lots of acoustic finger picking. I love it. It's beautiful. But don't go into it expecting to hear a "Banger". I'm sticking with my recommendation for the live version of "Rhiannon": "Rhiannon Fleetwood Mac Live 1976" from the TV show "Midnight Special".

I bought this album in '77, and 46 years later I hear this song on the radio just as often as I did back then. It might be my favorite song off the album. Almost a half century later it still does not sound old or dated to me. Lots of drama going on in the band when this album was made, so much so that I've read that none of them could be in the studio at the same time as the others. In fact, I've read that the various vocal tracks were recorded in studios in separate cities. This song is a good example of the soap opera that was Fleetwood Mac. The woman he's talking about in the song is singing the background vocal track for him, although as mentioned before, they were not in the same studio at the same time.
